Max Canada Lynx & a little sunshine

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Max, the animal ambassador gets a little facing rubbing outside in the wonderful sunshine. The wind is really blowing which usually makes him nervous but not today. After cleaning his enclosure, I took notice of what improvements will be done. He needs a new corner shelf and his warped walkway will need replacing also.

    That is one happy kitty. while I've never owned something like a Lynx my family once owned a Alaskan husky that was part wolf and he had this very odd and somewhat fake sounding bark like he only barked because he heared other dogs doing it and while not very good with strangers he was a sweetheart to the family and we all missed him when he passed away.

    He is magnificent! I wish I could visit him. How extraordinary to be able to be close to an animal like this-especially a big CAT. Even house cats are unpredictable. We ALWAYS seem to have ONE who can be meaner than a junkyard dog when he feels like it. Our current "grumpy" cat was "adopted" by our big sweet pitbull. But he now thinks he is the king shit and if you so much as look at him wrong and he feels like it he will attempt to rip your face off! And I am NOT kidding. He has swiped me quite a few times in my legs when all I did was walk by. And I am scared to even approach him if he is lying on something at face level. I DO TRY to pet him on occasion and sometimes it's ok....but often times I gotta run! We have 3 cats. He is the only one like that. But like I said we ALWAYS have one lol. Gorgeous boy YOU have tho. Just lovely. Thankyou for sharing him and teaching us about lynxes.🐾😍

  • @wildlifebernie

    Keshava, I have purchased 30 new panels to create a 10 foot by 70-75 foot "run" for him. I have to wait for the snow to melt before I can start adding to his current enclosure. Because they are great leapers, I have to cover the top which is why it can only be 10 foot wide. Lynx are solitary animals. However, if I had gotten him a playmate when he was a baby, it would have been okay. Max will be 6 years old this coming May. It's too late to introduce a friend to him. He's pretty protective of his space. He will even try to dominate me when I'm in his enclosure. Also, we do go for walks on the lead around my acre. It's enrichment for him as Max loves to smell everything!

    MrKveite1 silly. A cat that size would not really even consider a human to be possible prey. This guy is not a cougar, he's a lynx. Look at the slim build and giant paws. He's designed for moving over huge snowdrifts, not for taking down large prey. Lightweight. Powerful enough to take hares and ermines and the occasional fisher, not people.

    MrKveite1 fair enough, I don't claim expertise. I only claim to have intuited that a 40 pound predator would have a difficult time taking prey that is 3-4 times its weight. And as far as I know, Lynx do not hunt in packs, which is the way animals like wolves (about a buck apiece) can take down a caribou (several hundred pounds, with swords sticking out of its head to boot). Cheers!

  • @MrKveite1

    @MrKveite1

    yes but you forget its a CAT and lions and tigers are cats and ONE tiger can take down a freaking waterbuffalo at 1200 pounds. how many times have you seen 6 pounds housecats ravage a 40 pound dog. Cats are one of the most efficient hunters in the world and a male lynx can be 60 pounds or more. Now that particular lynx is basicly tame and its 99,99% certain it will never hurt her and i never said it will. i said it COULD if it wanted to and i stand by that statement. i love cats just because they are so awesome. Nothing ellse in the animalworld goes from sleeping to devastating like a cat:)

    MrKveite1 well, I can't disagree with you there! On any of it. And yes, if he wanted to he could do some damage. I just don't think he'd manage to kill her. If he wanted to, that is. Obviously, he's just a big mush, so that's not going to happen. Cheers!

If any of you meet my cat, she is only to be petted between the ears on the ginger/white spot closer to the left ear at precisely 10:09pm-11:02pm on a full moon when the planets are aligned. WildlifeBernie she is the princess of darkness :D It's funny how they all have their personalities. If I may ask, does max ever get grumpy? He's so expressive in his features, he looks so content in your videos. I'm just curious if it's a special bond or if you got a special big cat friend, what's going on there? How come you get a big friendly majestic super cat and I have a easily angered devil cat?

  • @wildlifebernie

    @wildlifebernie

    7 жыл бұрын

    Oh Chief, Yes Max gets grumpy. Sometimes he will even growl at me when he wants to do something HIS way. That's when my eyebrows go up.....like what? Then there are times when he's mischievous when he's playing on the floor rolling around and I go to walk by and he'll grab my leg and bite my calf. I'm very lucky it's a play bite, maybe a love bite but the claws are out. I just give him the "look". You know, the look your mother gives you when you've been bad? No words, just the look and he releases my leg. I would like to think we have a special bond but you know cats... we don't own them... we are their slaves. They are independent. Also, Max was not always the friendly majestic cat.... he was a hell-boy as a kitten and juvenile. He's just now after 5 years beginning to become a lazy, comfy cat. Is your Rosie a calico or tortie? It sounds like she has you trained well my friend!

    WildlifeBernie WildlifeBernie it says a lot about you as a person as well that he has become the cat he is today. Clearly you are destined to be together but I do struggle to imagine how much of a handful he could have been growing up. You're right, Rosie is a tortoise shell, she was the smallest in her litter and her parents were farm cats. You're very right that animals generally dictate to me and the cats are no exception. She has me believing in psychic phenomena too thanks to the tricks she plays on me with her adopted sister (a ragdoll who occasionally sneaks up behind me and bats me on the head like I'm a huge fly) They do care in their own way, they made sure I was breathing when I was was very sick, I know this to be compassion because someone else would have cared for them if it had been serious. If it was max helping me though he would have probably driven me to the hospital then operated on me :D He looks incredibly smart and I know for sure cats have a very high intelligence it's only wired differently from humans. You have yourself a rewarding experience only a few people can attain and I envy your skill and bond.

    +SAM50049 It all depends on the venue. If the crowd is too close, he refuses to exit the cage and will even slap my hand if I try to attach the lead (sometimes nails out). He has at times come out to settle on the rug. I never know how he will feel until the program begins. If he is spooked while out, there's a chance that I will get injured getting him back to his "safe zone." He really is a big baby. When he refuses to come out, I will turn the kennel and open the door and then people can get some shots of him without the bars. I have to respect his behavior and although he has been out in front of people since 8 weeks, he is still very shy.

    I was informed that no fencing could contain a lynx because they are high leapers. However, recent professional collaboration has lead me to believe I can install a fence with an angle top and hot wire to keep Max in. Research is in the works for a large run/play area for him to be built early summer. As for height on his current enclosure, I'm looking into that also but think the open area is more critical.

    nedeljko18 Most cats do that, actually; they learn as kittens by roughhousing with their siblings to keep their claws (mostly) retracted, so only the tips are out. Even when cats don't retract their claws, most of them are very careful of their human playmates; light scratches are common enough, but those little scrapes are nothing compared to what a cat can do if they want to hurt you. Max here is obviously very careful of his humans' delicate skin, and doesn't want to hurt them.

    He may not know how beautiful he is but ancient Egyptian civilization and women since that time have tried to emulate a cats beauty. Fact, a woman's modern day makeup belies that. Nothing more mysterious than a cat.

    Hi Michael Roy, Max lives in NY state and he hates the summer. I usually have to cold water spritz him and some days he lays inside on the cold concrete to stay cool while I have a fan blowing on him. He absolutely LOVES the snow!

    WildlifeBernie oops, I thought I read Florida somewhere. Anyhow, it is good to see you interact with him. One of your videos that showed him playing in boxes. That reaffirmed to me that all cats like to play. What a handsome boy too.

    Sorry, but that is a VERY small and somber enclosure. If you really love your cat, you should really enlarge it.. .at least 10 times it's size. Don.t mind the "minimum requirements", there is so much room around him! Just think about how you would feel in such a small cage. Look at the paths from his pacing. Please, think about it! He is such a beautiful animal and deserves a better life!

    Please don't apologize. I appreciate people who give their honest opinion. I have added to his enclosure each year. This year I didn't. He has 3 times the space I'm required to have for him. Also, you don't see another section and an indoor place where he's fed. My license requires that his enclosure have a wire or solid top because lynx are vertical leapers. I wanted to fence an acre of my property but experts told me that the fencing would need to be 14 feet minimum with a 3 foot barbed wire section on top of that tilted in. This is why I take him out for walks around our property leashed. I still might fence in a large portion of the yard for supervised playtime. I just don't want him to scale the fence and be gone. I would die if he got loose. Also, cats, even exotics sleep a good 20 hours a day. Max likes to curl up in the corner of his cage where it's mulched and sleep during the day. Yes, the paths are from his pacing at night watching our wildlife which is why I gave him a raised walkway too since they like to be high.

    Hi Grizz! Max was purchased to be an animal ambassador. He educates the public about his species. I have a federal and state license to do this. And btw, he has been neutered.

    DW, Lynx are shy animals. They will not attack a human unless cornered and angered. They prefer eating snowshoe hares in the wild. Max prefers chicken legs, thighs or cubed beef.
