Cats (both wild and domestic) like to hide from both predator and prey, it really is instinctual behavior, so you could call it genetics :) My cat likes to slide in between the bed sheets to sleep. (also likes boxes, obviously)

It's a way of hiding. It gives them a sense of safety.

Awe he's so loving thank you for sharing his life. This gives me a whole new meaning of a lynx fur coat. I'd rather have the cats than their fur. No cat or any animal should be a rug, coat or trophy.

Beautiful cat, love Max, think all cats have a love of boxes, that purr is soothing to the soul, our cats purr when their happy, and it is so relaxing, put you right to sleep, what a beautiful creature Max is. Love him.

I remember a time when i witnessed a cat of mine.. boots (aka sgt. boots) saw me crash on a nearby couch. By the time i woke, she had wedged herself between my head & the side of the couch. She turned herself into a purring pillow. She made the side of my head all sweaty!

You love him, that is so obvious. If that's a bad habit then we can all use more bad habits like that. Thank you for giving him kisses from me. You are a special "hooman" for caring for Max and I'm positive he knows it too. I only have domestic kitties I've rescued (most recent one was a year ago from a motel parking lot in California while on a road trip - I'm in Washington state). I give mine kisses. It's what we do when we love our fur babies little or BIG.

We had ferals before we moved to WA - we caught them when we could and had them spayed and neutered but of course until we could there were LOTS of kittens... we took them all in. Princess Leia is the only one unrelated to them - she's the one from the motel parking lot - people were kicking her and she was so hungry so we fed her and she warmed right up to us - no clue how she got there, but we had heard they were going to call animal control on her and she's black so we knew that would not end well. I have to say she is the craziest and smartest cat I've ever seen or had (and I've had a lot of cats in my life), but also super affectionate. We got her one of those Fastcat wheels and she uses it every day - helps to eat up some of her excess energy - LOL Say hello to Max from Princess Leia and thank you for Max's purrs.

Robyn Swaim - Three of our cats are black, and we feel the same way. One was adopted from a shelter by my mom. She was abused, had a tilted head and usually wouldn't let anyone touch her. Mom picked her up and held her. She is her cat and it took me five years before she'd let me pet her with one stroke lightly on the head.

Joy McGuire - Yes, Max was neutered at 6 months. I was not planning to use him for breeding and a neutered feline is a better behaved one. :)
