Solitude makes you face yourself. I believe every person should live alone at some point before living with anyone else. Its how you get out of your parents house & get to know you/your likes/dislikes/what you'll tolerate or won't & develop your standards. Too many young people get married w/o knowing themselves and later find its not that they don't like the other person. Its that they never gave themselves the freedom to know their own self & end up feeling suffocated.

Hi Lynn, lost almost everything in 2008, which sent me into seclusion, my faith in God grew, with the help of the positive influence i was to others, reciprocity guided me, GOD went before me, finally, .... discovering myself was what i was aiming for, and what i found was ugly, and meaningless, i settled into who i am in Christ, and recognized its all about the Creator, not the creation. The result is far beyond anything i could have ever dreamed of. Life is never perfect, and i have problems, but i dont let them define me. Joy is the reality i have, wether things are good, or, not so good, joy is an illusive state of being that I have to reaffirm, daily, with new administrations, liars cheaters, and deceivers abounding round about me...... living a life of true integrity is my goal, everyday. I could have made this novel much shorter by saying,: with LOVE all things are possible. Believe that.

School offers pre-chewed baby-mush these days. Because "chewing" through life's problems for yourself is fraught with the emotional pain of the mistaken parts of you "dying". And that's been misconstrued as "oppression". Even the "vegetable" in the garden has to endure the harsh realities of existence. But the "vegetables" in the education system have everything that might stress them into a greater degree of strength and competency, is smoothed over by the Jungian Devouring Mother to fears the poor babies might be hurt. And growing up this way into adulthood has the Activists crying for a more empowered big-government to be their protective mother; and the government, media, education system scrambling for even more and more oppressively and tyrannically "Devouring" powers. I think it was CNN where one of their on-air personalities was calling for a "Reality Czar" to tell people what was and wasn't "Truth". That's an Orwellian "1984" "Ministry of Truth" (who's job was to sort lies).

One doesn't HAVE to be bitter. But it's become the zeitgeist of the toxic neo-Marxist West; with even those who are still at least *trying* to think and reason, jumping to it SO easily as an inevitable default. Also, don't confuse "learning" with "being taught". If you are raised to believe you are smart, happy ( or joyful ), beautiful, successful, etc. Then that will be the bubble you live in. It is really hard to change that early influence no matter how well you understand that fact or how hard you try. Of course it can be done, many do escape the trappings of their upbringing, but, many are doomed to repeat that history. For good or bad.

@@griz063 I agree, we are not on a path to revolution. I think the answer is a simple one. Our obsession with defining everything, putting everything in a neat category has been getting in the way as far back as the first civilization. It may be great when organizing a tool shed but terrible for humans. Example: black and white. These 2 seemingly harmless words have done so much damage to us as individuals and to the collective consciousness. To label one self or others as either instead of just being human is just stupid. Of course there are many other examples of this, gay or strait, demarcate or republican, American or Russian, and so on. Our obsession with these definitions drives some so much the are willing to kill others or themselves when acceptance is not met. So no, pushing for these things is not revolutionary. Our eyes are on the wrong ball. Taking sides is so ingrained into what we think it is to be human, that most can't imagine a world without it.

I agree that children should be taught these insights in school and at home. The problem is that we have 2 parents in the home working outside the home today. The schools and child care providers therefore must do better at teaching students about choices and outcomes, positive choices vs negative choices, personal responsibility and community responsibility. Parents simply do not get time to teach their children about life truths and insights. Even parents who work at home do not have time to provide real attention to their own children between dinner, errands, too much academic homework, baths, housework, and a little break for everyone in the family to just enjoy or relax with their quarter of an hour together before bedtime. I remember my mom having time to correct and discipline although rarely have discussions concerning the rules of life. She had her way of imparting wisdom with off the cuff sayings like " Life's not fair, get used to it." "No-one us going to pay you to exist". "Early birds get the worms.". She did a good job because when she had to work every night when I was 11 and took over child care within half an hour of arriving home, I recall inspecting dishes my sister washed on her nights and putting them back in the dishwasher to be cleaned properly with the quip "What a waste of tv time, do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again ". I took care of a baby 11 years younger than me, a sister 6.5 years younger than me and one 1.5 years younger. 5 and 6 nights a week. I took my mom's payments to the landlord, the utility companies, went to school, kept my grades up, helped with meal prep, earned money ironing clothes, cleaning and taking out trash for the neighbors in addition to going to school, keeping my grades up. It's crazy that parents aren't able to raise their kids properly today because everyone is working and trying to play in their off time instead of caring for and teaching their children how to be responsible. But the last two generations do not even have the knowledge to pass on to their developing children. If I hadn't had my mom full time for the 1st 8 years of my life, I wouldn't have been able to help care for my siblings responsibly and without resentment for nothing. The funds I used to take the siblings for burgers, ice cream, movies, the carnival or to the Five & Dime store on weekends was my earned money for my ironing and cleaning and I felt joy in doing all of it. More children need to be taught to be alone some, be outside playing responsibly, etc but who is going to teach it if the school and childcare providers don't. The parents normally are in a state of overwhelm.

Thanks Mr. McConaughey! I'm sending this to all of my six kids. I've preached it for decades. But I think it's even better hearing it from someone else. You put it out there perfectly! I have always admired your representation on the screen. I will continue to lift you in our prays! Please continue to share yourself with us!

Ran in to Matthew at a cash n carry in Luton back in 2001. Unbelievable man. He gave me some invaluable advice on bulk can fruit purchases. I had only gone there to buy canned veg, but came back with enough canned fruit to feed an army. My grocery store flourished and 20 years later I bought a second shop in another town. All because of some amazing advice from Matthew McConaughey.

I have an entirely new respect for this man. I don't think much of "The Hollywood Crowd" as a whole. This man is different from the rest of them. He is thoughtful, intelligent, and aware of the real values of life. He is a glimmer of hope, that the world is not completely lost.

My Grandmother always said it's a great life if you don't weaken. When I was younger I never really understood what she meant by that. Now I do, being by yourself within yourself is your strength. I have learned that untill self is strong you can't give what you are to anyone else.

As someone who was diagnosed bipolar depressive for now 22 years I know the difference between happiness and joy. When my grandson, now 21, texted me just because, when every morning I wake up and walk into my dining room where my now one year old granddaughter photo frame meets me, when my grandson not as often as I would like but calls me to share his latest success in his insurance agency, and my daughter a stage 3 breast cancer survivor calls just because. That s joy

Agreed. Critical thinking is a threat to those who need you as complacent fodder. Remember Western Society is an "emergent structure": the consequence of competent individuals freely speaking and trading ideas and the fruits of their labor in a mutually agreed-upon stabilizing structure. A tyranny requires scared and incompetent children *complying* with a dictated structure from those who just THINK they are the best qualified adults. But this mistaken thought is what elevates the the WORST possible people to be ruling leaders over such a regime.
