    Every time he finishes one of these completely insane runs he immediately starts talking and avoids eye contact to prevent being confronted with overwhelming praise by the interviewer. He is very modest and always wants to share, not to impress.

    What to comment? I'm a fan of Mancuso for a couple of years. This guy defines the humbleness and mastering of a modern guitar player. He's already part of the history and guitar world. He is fast, but he is precise and dynamic. A truly bless to see and hear his work. So inspiring. Keep on going.

    @@magic2506 What? he's playing with his fingers stuff that a plethora of other musicians can do with a pick and have done for 30+ years. There's nothing new. There's not even an original sound really. Try listening without seeing - people heard Eruption for the first time and were "WTF!?!?" and the same for many of EVH riffs, intros and solos. But whilst Matteo is clearly very skilled and has unbelievable finger dexterity - it's purely visual. There's nothing I've heard him play that if I heard it without seeing him playing it I'd be "WTF!?!". It's just stuff that every Jazz student plays over changes and versions of others people stuff that wowed us decades ago except now it's played with his fingers. But if you couldn't see that you wouldn't think it was any different from the plethora of people playing other people's stuff on youtube. MO he doesn't have a sound, no unique voice that sets him apart in the way that most guitar players do - even guitarists that aren't particularly virtuoso like Brian May of Queen, David Gilmour, Blackmore et al. They all had a voice. And obviously Vai, Malmsteen, Govan have a voice. What he does have is what all these videos are going on and on about - something that LOOKS amazing and that, prior to him doing it was probably considered impossible my many. But guitar playing is music - an audible thing at the end of the day. Having a technique that only looks good doesn't have legs imo. But yeah he's lightyears ahead of Malmsteen but Malmsteen isn't in the top 500 guitar players.

    @@michael1while it is visually impressive, the reason his technique is ACTUALLY impressive is that the way he plays is not something he was taught. He incorporates bass techniques in a way thats as revolutionary as tosins thumping, and I don't say that lightly, animals as leaders is my favorite band. I'm primarily a fingerpicking guitarist and let me tell you... almost no one can play that fast with their fingers on command like he does. I've seen plenty of guitarists do it in short licks, but he can do it non stop clean and effortlessly.

  • @michael1

    @michael1

    2 ай бұрын

    @@DaTLMusic Sorry to burst your bubble but the 2 techniques he uses, one has been in use for a few hundred years and the other is decades older than he is. As for playing fast that generally started as a way of impressing tone deaf morons, but ok even if we accept that as a thing there are thousands of guitar players who can play as fast or faster than him. His chosen technique is limiting how fast he can play - of course this doesn't really matter but if you're bringing it up as thing that matters to you, he'd be better off learning to pick. The fact they don't use their fingers is pretty immaterial - the reason for this is - it's like finding someone who can hop really fast - just run instead and you'll be faster. His clean playing is 99% down to the dampening he uses - anyone can put one of those on his guitar and achieve the same. To some extent there is, once again, a typical moron convention amongst guitarists that using a damper of some kind is "cheating" or bad - so if Matteo has silenced them he has achieved something - but don't be silly and waffle about how clean his playing is - just get a fret wrap, put it on your guitar and now your playing is clean too. If you're impressed only because he seems to picking in a new way that you can't do that's just a visual gimmick. Does the next guitar player need to pick with his feet to be impressive? Like I said, do the test, get someone else to listen to the music without watching - and they'll probably say "He's good but there's nothing new here" - and then you find yourself saying "Ah but you have to see him play because he's using his fingers" - well, that's a fail isn't it? When millions of people were blown away by Eruption, for example - it was for the sound - the music - yes there was this strange tapping thing you could see - but the tapping was done to create a novel sound. Playing music is really about sound - the noise you get - and as I said, for me there's really nothing particularly impressive.He's a good guitarist but he's not standing out today like Jimi Hendrix did in his day or EVH did in the 70s. Or, I would argue, several different guitarists are today because people like Tosin and Henson have a novel approach to the sound, i.e music. Bottom line is : the only point in having a thumb technique or a finger technique is if it adds something to the sound. Unless we're supposed to turn the sound down and just watch Matteo or listen to something else?

    @@michael1 not being limited to a pick means he can switch to classical style instantly, its a versatility thing not a speed thing. I remember back a few decades ago as a young aspiring guitarist, attempting to study the chops of a myriad of diverse players from Blackmore, to Beck, to Lifeson and many more. Then, one day, I dropped the needle on the first UK record. It was my younger brother, a drummer, who first directed my attention to one Allan Holdsworth... good God! Maybe, I should just mothball my beloved '75 Stratocaster and be done with it!!!! Now to the present and this Mancuso guy! Does anyone want a Vintage '75 Strat? Unbelievable! And he's only in his mid twenties!

    I don't like word perfection, cause it usually make people unhappy in longterm, but in case of Matteo his play is pure perfection

    It would be so much fun and learning to have Matteo and Frank Gambale together !!! Just saying :) I admire Matteo's humbleness and honesty about his approach and just Him as a person. Great dude!!
