Every time he finishes one of these completely insane runs he immediately starts talking and avoids eye contact to prevent being confronted with overwhelming praise by the interviewer. He is very modest and always wants to share, not to impress.
Matteo is very generous the way he shares his knowledge and skills, and always shows great respect for the other guitarists he mentions. Not only an artist, but also a true gentleman.

I thought I had seen it all. But this guy is from another world. Such a clean sound, such a delicate expression, and with so much ease.

What to comment? I'm a fan of Mancuso for a couple of years. This guy defines the humbleness and mastering of a modern guitar player. He's already part of the history and guitar world. He is fast, but he is precise and dynamic. A truly bless to see and hear his work. So inspiring. Keep on going.
Matteo is so extremely gifted. His tone is perfect and he is so accurate and fast. His manual dexterity is exceptional. But also an incredible musical feeling that will no doubt keep developing.
that guy is just incredible
No ego like Malmsteen. Just smooth incredibly quick and accurate playing and a style all his own. He’s the best guitarist on the planet.

Yes, for sure. Malmsteen is not even in Matteo's League. Nobody is.

@@magic2506 What? he's playing with his fingers stuff that a plethora of other musicians can do with a pick and have done for 30+ years. There's nothing new. There's not even an original sound really. Try listening without seeing - people heard Eruption for the first time and were "WTF!?!?" and the same for many of EVH riffs, intros and solos. But whilst Matteo is clearly very skilled and has unbelievable finger dexterity - it's purely visual. There's nothing I've heard him play that if I heard it without seeing him playing it I'd be "WTF!?!". It's just stuff that every Jazz student plays over changes and versions of others people stuff that wowed us decades ago except now it's played with his fingers. But if you couldn't see that you wouldn't think it was any different from the plethora of people playing other people's stuff on youtube. MO he doesn't have a sound, no unique voice that sets him apart in the way that most guitar players do - even guitarists that aren't particularly virtuoso like Brian May of Queen, David Gilmour, Blackmore et al. They all had a voice. And obviously Vai, Malmsteen, Govan have a voice. What he does have is what all these videos are going on and on about - something that LOOKS amazing and that, prior to him doing it was probably considered impossible my many. But guitar playing is music - an audible thing at the end of the day. Having a technique that only looks good doesn't have legs imo. But yeah he's lightyears ahead of Malmsteen but Malmsteen isn't in the top 500 guitar players.

@@michael1while it is visually impressive, the reason his technique is ACTUALLY impressive is that the way he plays is not something he was taught. He incorporates bass techniques in a way thats as revolutionary as tosins thumping, and I don't say that lightly, animals as leaders is my favorite band. I'm primarily a fingerpicking guitarist and let me tell you... almost no one can play that fast with their fingers on command like he does. I've seen plenty of guitarists do it in short licks, but he can do it non stop clean and effortlessly.
@michael1

@@DaTLMusic Sorry to burst your bubble but the 2 techniques he uses, one has been in use for a few hundred years and the other is decades older than he is. As for playing fast that generally started as a way of impressing tone deaf morons, but ok even if we accept that as a thing there are thousands of guitar players who can play as fast or faster than him. His chosen technique is limiting how fast he can play - of course this doesn't really matter but if you're bringing it up as thing that matters to you, he'd be better off learning to pick. The fact they don't use their fingers is pretty immaterial - the reason for this is - it's like finding someone who can hop really fast - just run instead and you'll be faster. His clean playing is 99% down to the dampening he uses - anyone can put one of those on his guitar and achieve the same. To some extent there is, once again, a typical moron convention amongst guitarists that using a damper of some kind is "cheating" or bad - so if Matteo has silenced them he has achieved something - but don't be silly and waffle about how clean his playing is - just get a fret wrap, put it on your guitar and now your playing is clean too. If you're impressed only because he seems to picking in a new way that you can't do that's just a visual gimmick. Does the next guitar player need to pick with his feet to be impressive? Like I said, do the test, get someone else to listen to the music without watching - and they'll probably say "He's good but there's nothing new here" - and then you find yourself saying "Ah but you have to see him play because he's using his fingers" - well, that's a fail isn't it? When millions of people were blown away by Eruption, for example - it was for the sound - the music - yes there was this strange tapping thing you could see - but the tapping was done to create a novel sound. Playing music is really about sound - the noise you get - and as I said, for me there's really nothing particularly impressive. He's a good guitarist but he's not standing out today like Jimi Hendrix did in his day or EVH did in the 70s. Or, I would argue, several different guitarists are today because people like Tosin and Henson have a novel approach to the sound, i.e music. Bottom line is : the only point in having a thumb technique or a finger technique is if it adds something to the sound. Unless we're supposed to turn the sound down and just watch Matteo or listen to something else?

@@michael1 not being limited to a pick means he can switch to classical style instantly, its a versatility thing not a speed thing. He can play fast enough without a pick that he will never need to use it. Out of curiosity, do you know of any guitar plays who can fingerstyle like him? I actually want to hear them
Absolutely amazing. In awe of his ability. Seems like such nice person as well.
Excellent interview, thank you so much! Matteo is an amazing young man, solid person and solid player.

Best interview I have seen with the most clear explanations. Great job done here and what an incredible talent!
Matteo is really an incredible guitarist, I actually admire his musical development on the instrument, knowing a little more about his sound in this interview is valuable for me. All my admiration for this guitarist. As we say here in Colombia "capo"
I would love to comment - But what could I say that Matteo haven't already said. There comes a guitar player like this every 100 years - last one was Paco De Lucia. Now we have Matteo to calm our nerves and make life beautiful. Thank you. By the way - We love Sicily and now, even more 🤗
Guillaume, nice interview, and how you manage to contain your enthusiasm is impressive! Don't know if I could do that in his masterful presence. Matteo is redefining the modern playing method into an art-form. Extraordinary musicianship. Thanks for this video!
Watching it over and over. Still in awe.
Just when you thought you've heard everything... this guy comes along and redefines guitar playing. I'm never using a pick again.
He's got the skills, the brain and the heart, what a great guy!
He’s crazy good, once in a generation player
Stunning Matteo and thank you for sharing our passion. Wish you a fabulous career and more music to come !
Fantastic interview, thanks. What a player!

I'm not inspired by him at all, on the contrary... I have a strong disgust, it's my personal opinion..., but a person who tears his nails out of his hand and installs plastic parts in order to have a A better performance on the instrument... It's a squalid scam... as well as inhumane.

It seemed there couldn't be much left to say in the world of the guitar and instead HE arrived: Matteo Mancuso. Matteo managed to invent a new approach to playing guitar, managing to amaze all the greatest guitarists in the world.
I was literally in tears at the end.
Absolutely incredible guitarist and musician. His technique gets a lot of attention, but his skills as an improvisor is also ridiculously good.

Matteo is so young, and already has lifetimes worth of musical knowledge.

Matteo Style is awesome 👍 his finger style techniques are brilliant, from classical, blues ,rock ,fusion Jazz, and even shred guitar, with a touch of Chet Atkins. 👍
Grande Matteo! Orgoglio Italiano 🇮🇹 🎸🔥
Just.....wow.....!!!!!!
How can you master all the styles so well at such a young age? Prodigy child !!
Thank you for the FANTASTIC video! You covered his equipment and his right hand technique but I have heard Mataeo mention in other videos that many players could not play a lot of his lines because of his left hand fingerings. Could you have him talk about that in a future video please? And if he uses legato techniques like hammer ons and pull offs or does he pick every note? Left hand technique would give us the whole picture. Thank you again for the amazing video and for reading my lengthy request.
I like matteo style.. He have the Amazing technique in play guitar...
I didn't realize he played a Revstar -- that's awesome

Agree he is a genius at playing and theory. I'm afraid to report guitars don't come with skill. Agree that his albums are all about Matteo and if can play 10 styles put it all in.
A truly phenomenal guitarist. I don't think it's crazy to suggest already that he may be a generational talent. And gorgeous guitars too, really nice to see Yamahas get a little spotlight, such tremendous build and value, throughout their ranges and their top end stuff is more than a match for the major US brands.
Great!! Coming from bass, I find this technique very comfortable and familiar while playing guitar
Orgoglio italiano, grande Mancuso
Gifted
WOW WHAT A GIFT TO HUMANITY HE IS, TOOK ME AWHILE TO GET PAST THE GENIUS VIRTUOSITY, BUT ONCE I HEARD HIM SPEAK, HE'S ACTUALLY A DARN GOOD TEACHER TOO, AND RIDICULOUSLY GOOD LOOKING, I PREDICT YOU WILL BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST STARS IN THE WORLD, I JUST DISCOVERED HIM TODAY 1-31-24 !!! HE SURE HAS DONE A LOT OF SCALE PRACTICE, MORE THAN HIS SHARE, THAT COMBINED WITH BRILLIANT MUSIANSHIP IMMEDIATELY PUTS HIM AT THE TOP OF THE HEAP !!!
I remember back a few decades ago as a young aspiring guitarist, attempting to study the chops of a myriad of diverse players from Blackmore, to Beck, to Lifeson and many more. Then, one day, I dropped the needle on the first UK record. It was my younger brother, a drummer, who first directed my attention to one Allan Holdsworth... good God! Maybe, I should just mothball my beloved '75 Stratocaster and be done with it!!!! Now to the present and this Mancuso guy! Does anyone want a Vintage '75 Strat? Unbelievable! And he's only in his mid twenties!
I don't like word perfection, cause it usually make people unhappy in longterm, but in case of Matteo his play is pure perfection
It would be so much fun and learning to have Matteo and Frank Gambale together !!! Just saying :) I admire Matteo's humbleness and honesty about his approach and just Him as a person. Great dude!!
Congrats Matteo and thanks for the explanations. Always humble serious and simple for a very sophisticated play.
I just watched his performance with Jonas Hellborg.... Wow!
