It would have been more interesting however to see Boling in a training specificity like velocity #1/2 as this is where is really shines. I’m sure his college coaches are thrilled after seeing the simplicity of his training and yet he still performs at such a high level. His future is bright!

    Solid coaching. Definitely some strong athletes in the group, but a coach that understands technique and strategy and not just repetition is huge!

  • @SpeedCultureStudios

    @SpeedCultureStudios

    @Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this I disagree slightly. This group can certainly make a coach look good, but being an athlete myself, and then a coach later in life, I have seen talent wasted with coaches that did not know what they are doing. My AAU (I was coaching) track team shared a practice track with an "elite" high school traveling sprint team. They had some great athletes, but I watched them set blocks incorrectly. I watched weeks of practice with absolutely no system or strategy. I watched very strong sprinters work with absolutely horrible form with no input from the coach. So yes, a naturally strong sprinter can make a coach look good. But a poor coach can seriously prevent a great athlete from being excellent!

  • @SpeedCultureStudios

    @SpeedCultureStudios

    Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this I wouldn’t say they are lazy. They were blessed with good athletes and were then praised by parents of relatively successful parents and peers. That led to a sense of superiority and an idea that what they were doing as coach’s was correct or creating success. It wasn’t laziness per se. it was just misguided.

  • @SpeedCultureStudios

    @SpeedCultureStudios

    Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this Well in all fairness, the internet is full of garbage as well. And every athlete is different as well. Each responds to different types of training and different coaching styles. You really have to have a knack for coaching to each individuals strengths and minimizing weaknesses. You also have to understand how the body works, how to run each race, how to train for each race, how to rest and recover. You have to understand nutrition and how to organize a diet that works with specific workouts. There is a lot that goes into being a great coach and it takes a lot more than watching a few videos. So again, it’s not necessarily laziness. It’s just ignorance.

    Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this Did you not listen to his weekly breakdown or the workouts he had them do? Not to mention that he has a group of 10ish guys running 52-53 second 400s comfortably for practice. It’s one thing to have a couple guys/girls on a high school team that stand out and run impressive times. It’s completely different to have a large group all capable of times like this. From what I see in this small clip, he has a number of tools in his arsenal and knows how to use them. You apparently saw something you believe you could do by watching KZread videos. My experience tells me this is great coaching.

    Good coach. In middle school I ran the 100, 200, and I was second leg for the 4x1. Nobody wanted to to the 4x4 and I was indifferent about it so my coach chucked me in as anchor saying “you’re fast.” No training whatsoever, and I ran out of gas the last 100 while leading. A guy twice my height passed me on the last 50m. I blamed my self until I saw this video.
