Match of the Day Goal of the Season 1992-93
Спорт
I can't remember off the top of my head who won, but I have a feeling it was Dalian Atkinson (v Wimbledon). I hope the poor quality of the reception doesn't detract from Clive Freeman's moment of glory. That's Clive Freeman of Altrincham, no less, who buries an absolute screamer. Also, there are a couple of "nice" goals from Dwight Yorke, but I'm not convinced the first of them is particularly special. Just MOTD trying to show how "cultured" they were, I reckon...
Recorded as part of Cup Final Match of the Day in 1993, and as a nice bonus you also get the end credits of that, too.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)

Thanks so much for this. I'm an American that lived in England from 90-93. I turned 17 this 92-93 season. I was an athlete and football (soccer) helped me acclimate to new surroundings. I chose to support Villa in 90. Great choice as it turned out. 4 of these 9 goals? Ridiculous. I was there for goal no 7. Being in the Holte end during the terrace era in the midst of thousands of drunken males singing about something they believe in is something I'll never forget. And yes, Atkinson did win.

RIP Dalian. I was 13/14. Great memories of a great player. As a Utd supporter the Villa team of the early 90s gave us a scare and great matches. My younger relatives mid 20s and under really missed out on great players like him

Sadly, Dalian Atkinson, who has two out of the nine goals here including the winner, got tasered by police and has died as a result.

It's a sad story where there will be no winners. Atkinson had fallen into a manic depression and according to his father was on the hunt for all his family. There is a trial on the 12th that will look specifically at the actions of the police involved, clear any answers around that day.

Definitely my favourite era of football. Remembering a feeling I will never recapture.
Since it hardly ever gets talked about, I just want to show some appreciation for Dalian Atkinson's goal vs Sheff Wed. The power he gets on that shot, with such a quick and short backlift, is un-feckin-real. The ball is slightly awkward for him, but he quickly sorts it out, and then BOOM. The goal frame wobbles like it's been directly hit.
That was one hell of a Villa team. Atkinson could be sublime. Terribly sad way to end his life. RIP.
Proper football days. Good times sadly gone forever. The terraces 😍

Of course it was the 92-93 season. The dates throughout the video give you a clue to that. LOL And of course Dalian Atkinson's classic against Wimbledon won. That Villa team under big Ron played beautiful football as you can see here and I can think of at least one other goal from that season that should be here too. Great days!!

Dean Saunders' goal vs Ipswich 😎
You know, I've just looked it up, and if Wikipedia is to be believed, Dalian Atkinson won precisely one international cap - for the England B team. I'm not saying he was a world beater, but he was worth more than that!

Its the Aston Villa Goal of the Season competition. LOL!! We had other goals as well that season that didn't win Goal of the Month but were still sublime. Man. U may have won the title but we played the beautiful football and much of that was down to Dalian Atkinson. RIP Big Feller.
More Villa goals in this 4.50 than we have scored this season. We could do with a few players like that now.
RIP Dalian. Still smashing in screamers in the sky, mate ❤❤❤
RIP Dalian, wonderful goal of the season for villa. They were on the cusp of something special around that time, 1993 to 1996, but never kicked on. Should have won the prem in 1993 but a poor April put paid to that. Also Dalian Atkinson is remembered here at Ipswich, where he scored a magnificent hat trick against a high flying Middlesbrough in April 1988. each goal an absolute belter. We always applauded him when he came back to Portman Road.

Two things I like from this - more Altrincham fans seem to have turned up for goal 3 than Wimbledon fans for goal 2. Also, for all the Villa goals in this comp (and I remember they scored a ton of blinding goals that season), there was no inclusion of Dean Saunders "goal of the 90s" strike against Ipswich.

Yeah, that Dean Saunders one didn't even win Goal of the Month, so wasn't eligible for Goal of the Season.

what a season that was for villa. 4 out of 9 goal of season contenders are Villa. In the words of Alan Partridge - Back of the net!

FREEMAN...that's what he can do!
That Saunders one didn't win Goal of the Month, so wasn't eligible for the Goal of the Season competition. So, really, these aren't so much the best nine goals of the season, but the best ones that weren't scored within the same month as one that Trevor Brooking/Alan Hansen/Gary Lineker preferred, if you see what I mean. Silly BBC policy that's still in force...
