MCFC fan here. That Villa team was mint. Silk and Steel everywhere. Remember a few away games at Villa Park where I was not expecting much on arrival. Remember that when Daley used to get the ball and dribble, all of the lower seated crowd on your Main stand used to stand up in expectation. Good team for sure.

I love how deliberately handling on the line to stop a goal was considered a harsh sending off.

I went to very first game when i was 13. My best mate and his dad were huge villa fans and one day asked me to go along. I remember it like yesterday. I paid £3.50 at the turnstile and walked up the passageway out onto the old standing only Holte end. I was in awe of the noise and atmosphere from the fans. Unlike anything i had experienced before. I felt a part of something. A huge living breathing consciousness acting as one. Villa played QPR and David Platt scored twice, as did Ray Wilkinson for Rangers. Final score 2-2. But i was hooked and never missed a home game for years. This 93/94 season we beat Arsenal, Birmingham city (i went to St Andrews) for the first leg and it was hairy leaving the ground. Bosnich saved a blues penalty then Kevin Richardson scored. We held on in the 2nd leg to meet Tranmere in the semi's And anyone who knows soccer history knows that second game at villa park was a miracle. Villa were 3-1 down after the first leg and managed to claw their way back and win on penalties. Then the final at wembley against Man Utd who were chasing the treble that season and had players such as Cantona, Giggs, Ince, Bruce, Pallister, Parker,, Sharpe, Hughes, Bruce, and Kanchelskis..... Villa were clearly the underdogs. But i knew as soon as i got into Wembley and seen the sea of claret and blue totally outnumbering Man Utd fans, i knew something special was going to happen that day. The game didnt disappoint but things were getting tense towards the end at 2-1 Bosnich pulled off a fantastic save to deny Mark Hughes then Tony Dayley raced down the wing and smashed a shot against the post. The ball came back out to Atkinson who hit it only for Kanchelskis to handle it on the line. Dean Saunders stepped up and converted the penalty to finish to the game Villa 3-1 Man Utd. I still have the match day program and my ticket stub. We won again 2 years later against Leeds Utd. But it was nothing compared to that first final. That was the happiest sporting day of my life and never have i been so proud to be a Villa fan. Even if most of the time it is suffering......lol

Real biased pro man u commentary from the late Brian Moore. Was fortunate to be at this game. The next year fergie gave up on the league cup and other teams soon followed. 1993/94 was the last year when the league cup was genuinely fought for by all teams involved.

How many of that Villa team played in the final two years later? I counted four, Townsend, Bosnich, Staunton and McGrath, amazing how much that team changed in two seasons.

Remember watching this as a kid. How times have changed though, when handling on the line to stop a goal is a 'crazy piece of legislation'!!

I don't understand the "He doesn't need to do this" remark with regards to sending Kanchelskis off. Yes he does. Because those are the rules.

They were introduced that season, think that's what they were getting at. For instance, Jack Charlton handled the ball towards the end of England's world cup semi-final win over Portugal in 1966, giving away a penalty and getting a yellow card. Under the modern rules, he would have been sent off and suspended for the final.

So a player can cheat by using his hand to prevent a goal? What would have happened if Saunders had missed the penalty and then Kanchelkis went up the other end and scored? A cheat of such magnitude should always be dismissed.

I thought that was one of their best kits ever! not a fan of united at all, but I liked that kit. Their blue and white adidas one from 1990 was special too.

@@martinkerrmusic It was inspired by the first kit worn by Newton Heath, before they became Manchester United. Thought the all black away kit they back back in 1993/94 was also smart, as was Villa's home kit.

It was a new piece of legislation as I recall. They had no complaints about the penalty, as they said, it was just the sending off that didn't need to be done. I still agree with them to be honest, and I'm a Villa fan.

going to happen again, feb 28th. We've a 100% record in finals against the red scum and that will continue, they've got two huge games against milan next month before the final so we might catch them cold. UP THE VILLA!!!!!!!!!!!

Kanchelskis used his hand to stop the ball going into the net and he was the last man and so sent off... how is that a piece of ridiculous legislation Peter Brackley???? its a 100% red card and he got what he deserved!!!! Great final tho
