Terry McDermotts goal for Liverpool was a classic.
It’s beautiful how football stands the test of time. Even after 40 years these goals are still fantastic and would grace any modern game.

Sorry for the two year delay on responding, but that volley from Edwards was just amazing
After he left football Ian Edwards worked in my father's nursery for some years - he was fantastic with the tomatoes and onions. Really nice chap too.

Goal was a real peach too..
A big difference between then and now was the fact only about 50% of top flight games were televised (highlights only) and the number of lower division games on TV was way lower still. If a great goal was scored without the cameras present, actually being there was the only way you’d ever get to see it.

If repeats of the the 'Big Match on ITV 4 are anything to go by they (ITV) covered quite a few lower league games in the late 70's - early 80's. Today you get Championship highlights but these games were from the old League division 3!!
1st goal for me. Stunning strike
Spurs fan here who remembers the day well, probably one of the best cup finals ever (replay) Mackenzies goal was a great cross and a fantastic strike of the ball but Villa took on and beat about 5 blokes and stuck it through Joe's legs, fantastic skill, I'm sure if MacKenzies goal had won the cup for City it would be the one being replayed.
IVAN GOLAC football legend. What a goal!!!

i'd pick ian edwards. those balls were harder to hit but when you caught them properly they went like bullets none of this frisbee shit you get nowadays.

no Man Utd so others had a chance
Incredible to think now how, apart from the match you went to yourself during the day, we were happy with only seeing the highlights of ONE main match on Match Of The Day on a Saturday night...plus maybe a brief edit of a second match. BBC only had a few cameras and a van, I think. Sometimes there'd be that buzz as you'd see the cameras at the very ground you were at. Unless you were a Liverpool fan in which case the cameras were there every few weeks!! Anyway as a kid I remember genuinely thinking that the BBC had captured the best goals in whatever season it was. Ha ha. There must have been dozens of more AMAZING goals scored around the country but we never got to see them. We didn't care though. Jumpers for goalposts. Marvellous.
Great tines. What a turn that was by Gary Shaw. Centre half's could kick you back then too!
Better than any world cup 2018 goals...
Love garth crooks!!!!
Amazing how straight the flight of the ball is in many of these goals.
In the end it was Steve MacKenzie's goal in the cup final replay that year that was best. Even better than Villa's winner that gets played every year during the cup final build up.

I have to agree with you there, they love Spurs at the BBC - TWO Spurs goals in the final list!
for me it had to be Goal ( F) Tony Morley , up the Villa
superb epic vid !!! tq cestrian81 !!
Ian Edwards for me, beautiful clean strike, followed by Ivan Golac, all fabulous though.
I'm guessing this was done prior to that seasons cup final(s) because there were a couple of goals (Villa's winner, of course, and the oft forgotten Steve Mackenzie volley) that would have shoe ins for the top 10.
It looks like some of these goals were scored in the middle of the night!

Ashley19721 LMAO TRUE
I loved A...on the volley! and Golaks thunderblast with Mottys voice 👌🏼
I personally think Goal A, scored by Wrexham's Ian Edwards no less, is 100x better than Morley's - it's Van Basten-esque, and Ivan Golac's goal is even better still
WHAT A GOAL THAT THAT WAS!
The days When lots of teams could win a Trophy, not just the ones with millions to spend like Today
Back then was my favourite goalkeepers from Jennings,..Grobbelaar...Clemence..Southall etc etc... some great goals....
Ricky villa all day... Legend
WOW WHAT A GOAL
Edward's was clearly the best
Shit boots. Shit pitch. Shit ball. Beautiful goals.
They were all really good goals
Without doubt: goal A - however, a great combination of bravery & technique by G.Crooks for a perfectly executed scissor kick. There is a reason why we don't see.many of those goals,.even in the modern day game......
Tony Morley,for me! 🙂
Ricky Villa's second-best goal.
Ricky Villa's winner in the Cup final replay didn't make it to list, but was the most memorable goal.

The Final had yet to be played, let alone the replay.
Remember this season very well. Tony Morley had a great season with Villa and his goal was excellent. Villa had a good team that season but I am sure Ipswich who finished second beat them home and away in the league. Also I recall Ipswich knocking villa out of the FA Cup also.

True, we did beat villa 3 times . Unfortunately, we were in 3 competitions, and won the u.e.f.a. cup. But the league title eluded us. Runners up 2 seasons in a row.

@@mjscott65 Villa had a number of local derbies to navigate. And would have won the title more convincingly had it been 3 points for a win (this was the last season it was 2 points per victory). They were deserving champions.

@@mulveye_music Ipswich played 66 games that season and faded badly at the end of the league, if I recall correctly 2 defeats in the first 32 but then 7 out of the last 10 , though they did win at villa with a few games to go a result which at the time looked to have secured the title. Thankfully they held it together to win the uefa cup which was an absolute goal fest from the 1st round to the final. Wark alone scored 14 a record at the time. Villa only played 46 games in comparison, and set a record which will never be beaten of only using 14 players. But at the end of the day you can’t argue with the league table. The following season Ipswich we’re pipped again by Liverpool this time an injury crisis in February cost them a chance, Villa had a disappointing league season (9th I think) but of course won the European cup demonstrating the strength of the English league at that time.
Villa’s by a whisker for me, and the big bloke had plenty of those too!
How the hell did Mariner's goal make into this line up?
Tony Morley's goal was the one I remembered from back then. Some dreadful haircuts, but Villa had quite a team!
How was it they allowed so many english players to play in the old english first division? I just don't get it!

Aleksandr Chivadze, if I may correct you.
There may be young viewers scratching their heads wondering what all the fuss was about, as todays balls are almost comedy. You can tap in from 25 yards. in '81 to do something from distance was very special as the balls were much harder and travelled a lot slower.
Mate te that's Jimmy Hill.Ask your Dad/Grandad about him !
How did Paul Mariners goal get in that lot, it was nothing special.

Yes I agree it was better to watch back then without players falling over and screaming as though they've lost a limb every time an opposing player gets within a couple of feet and always playing for a free kick or penalty rather than staying on their feet and trying to score.
