From the days when celebrations were just heartfelt expressions of joy, not pre-planned nonsense that they hope will be seen on a video game next year.

A monumental collection. RIP Brian Moore and Sunday afternoon's Big Match, essential entertainment for any kid back then. I am quickly reminded why I no longer watch English football.

Bob Latchford’s movement and header from a pinpoint cross, tremendous. How many of those goals had good old fashioned wing-play - sadly rarely seen these days.

You must play through the middle with a pivot, and a false number 9. You don’t understand? Nope, me neither.

Bestie's goal is a fine tuned stroke of genius. It get's my vote, though there are some real screamers here.

When you see George Best's goal again ,it is just sheer audacity and genius. The goalie was made to look a fool.

I saw these lads play the pitches were mudbaths often the balls heavier the boots tougher but the skills were not diminished George would do the unexpected that is why he was so good. I am happy to say I wanted to play pro football but ended up boxing in the pros then years later ended up working in pro football doing sports psychology which was a very interesting experience.

@@lennylaa1686 and their 3:15 pm kick offs to wring the stragglers out of the pub. The orange shirts could well have been home attire at this time ;)

David Fairclough;s goal for Liverpool against St Etienne wasn't the best goal on the listt but it's impact on Liverpool and their dominance in Europe over the next 8 years began with that goal

The actual winner was Derek Hales's goal for Charlton Athletic against Hull City. Tremendous cross-pitch and down the flank play by Powell to set it up.

Some brilliant goals here, but only the great George Best, even though he was way past his "best" by this point, could have still scored such a beauty at 4.00. That's my choice!

Remember they only had cameras at one game per week to choose from. Back when footballers were super human, as none of them fell over at the slightest touch (unless ALL the players these days are permanently diving) which could be? Super humans or cheats?

rather demonstrates that Lineker's narrative that football before the Premier League was all hit and hope and no technique does not stand up to scrutiny...

Thank heavens there was no crap like VAR back in the day. Honest refereeing (most of the time), big crowds, muddy pitches, proper characters, fantastic commentators. The game just flowed naturally, glad I was present to it all.

The good old days when they actually tried a shot from outside the area, rather than 30 passes tip tapping around the area that invariably leads to nothing most times these days. Impossible to compare the eras though, just look at the state of the pitches, it was a completely different game. Whisper it quietly but modern day football is pretty boring. Yes, I am a boring old fart.

Good old fashioned wing play and players who could actually head a ball, and use both their left and right foot.
