    My thoughts exactly! If he was 11 when his grandfather died in 2007, that means he was born in 1995 or 1996, making him 26 or 27 at the time of filming in 2023. His grandfather was born in 1917, making him 26 in 1943. He's almost the exact same age! Edit: (13:35) He actually says they were the same age.

    I love what this series is doing to connect us to that generation. My grandfather was in the Army Air Corps during the war and I'm an Afghanistan veteran myself. This series has helped me empathize with his experiences in a way I wish I could have while he was still alive. I also love how young the cast is. I'm only 30, but I turned 19 in Afghanistan and I've always hated how shows/movies tend to cast older actors for the sake of better performances. But I think it just needs to be shown that these were just kids fighting in these horrendous experiences. Thank you for your videos on the show, and congrats on the PhD, Doctor!

    I recently finished reading the book & it was EXCELLENT, also watched the series as I could and it was well done also. Read band of brothers & with the old breed, and helmet for my pillow before watching the series and they were both great. While our family didn't have anyone in the air corp in WWII we did have one in the Navy & one in the Marines. I feel truly fortunate to have heard some of their stories first hand. As to you Sam Rosenthal your grandfather is nothing but a hero in my book. Anyone who flies 52 combat missions over Europe then wants to go to the Pacific to fly B-29's is incredibly brave. That takes a special kind of MAN and Robert Rosie Rosenthal was that kind of MAN. RIP Rosie. FLY NAVY!!!

    I was raised on what I once thought were nothing more than tales of my paternal grandpa's experiences in WW2 and what Germany was like before the war, even taking me to one of the Overlord reunions. My maternal grandpa also told horrific "tales" of his experiences in a camp and how him and my grandma survived the camp. My mayernal grandparents wore their numbers with a weird sort of pride and as a symbol of what should never happen again. As I became an adult, I realized the horrible history of my families.

    It will be interesting to see how many of these young actors go on to become household names in film and TV in the years to come, like the Band of Brothers alumni. I almost expected Sam to ask "what's a newspaper clipping?", but he heroically managed to convert his surprise into "how did you find that?" RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, about 50 miles west of Thorpe Abbotts, is the main USAF airbase supporting their operations in the UK since the Cold War. Good interview!

    Not sure if its ever mentioned but typically if you are shooting a movie or show in a country they require that the actors cast are a certain percentage from that host country. This is why Band/Masters has British actors and the pacific has Australian

  • @tinastagg6258

    @tinastagg6258

    @NotYourAvrg, I believe another British-Australian link there is that Equity (formerly) Actors’ Equity is the UK actors’ union and Aussie Actors’ Equity was based on the UK model, so their policies are likely to be the same or similar.
