My father flew with Rosie in training at Dyersburg Tenesee. Dad arrived at Thorpe Abbots the day that Rosie was the only plane in the 418th Squadron to return form Munster. He knew right there he was in trouble. He flew three missions and was shot down over Gelsenkirchen Nov 5th. He evaded capture and made it back to England in August 1944.

Thirteen planes on that mission, his was the only one to return - details of this mission are detailed along with history of the 100th on the top floor of the control tower at Thorpe Abbotts. Well worth a visit.

I only just recently found out that my father Captain William R Brice was also on the 418th bombardment squadron at the same time as Colonel Rosenthal. I believe that my father and Seymour Passen were chummy with Col Rosenthal for a time.
