You're right on the mark on your observation and experience. And from my own view the reason for that is nature is veiled,and the veil is illusion. You have to go pass the illusion,to get into the internal structure,the soul realm. Wherein the nature of mind and self exists, and in there is the nature's need found. Just like Mr Chris Doo eloquently explained,you must as a matter of principle put your own self need and want on hold,in service of and for common and highest good,for you to access the Deep,in whose the real and true nature and structure of reality exists in.

You didn't provided any real world examples or applications in the freelancing industry but still a good one.

Great conversation. I think the gap in understanding why all businesses need to target a niche comes from comparison to the wrong peer group. A solo designer is going to have 1 top skill and 3-5 other related things they do ok. Let’s say a great illustrator with decent (marketable) skills in lettering, copywriting, and product photography. Their product photography will not be as good as their illustration work, ever. But they may be fine to take product photos of a book they illustrated for a client. If they claim they can also handle all the marketing, social media, copywriting, video, web development, google ads, etc., I instinctively know they won’t be very good at a lot of those things. 😅 A small 3-10 person design firm with dedicated people for each skill means I can get great quality for each need. But, they still need a focused target market since different companies will trust designers covering their industry. For example, if I was looking for a design team to brand and market my legal business, I wouldn’t look at a company that mainly doesn’t children’s toys. Lastly, companies like Amazon do serve a large, general target market. HOWEVER, even Amazon focused solely on books at first.

I ask my clients to draw me a straight line, so I can do a cart wheel on.
