to the bisexual lady whose straight husband is saying she's overreacting.....y'all need to have a talk. He sounds like he's still harboring some uncool ideas of bisexuality. Talk it out with him and try to explain why it's hurtful. My ex came around after we had a long talk about it, he's super cool & a great ally now. It's worth it, you deserve to have a partner who supports you!

Can I just say that it would be hilarious to have a party of edgelords, all trying to out-edge each other? "My parents are dead!" "My parents tried to kill me!" "My parents are dead, because they tried to kill me, and I killed them!" "I killed my parents, just because I'm that dark!" "Well, my parents never existed in the first place, because I went back in time and killed their parents!"

While there are many self-proclaimed feminists who are indeed misandrists and demand things with double standards, the truth is that they aren't feminists, they are just using the movement and term to justify a bigoted position. Unfortunately these fake feminists have become prolific and notorious enough that the term feminist is now tainted by those that don't even know what equality is, let alone how it differs from equity. Usually these fakes turn out to either be extremely privileged middle or upper class people, or their simps who suspiciously aren't allowed in areas with children.

Because if you're the kind of person who's hostile enough to a group of people just minding their own business that you act like you're not welcome in a place with people being allowed to just exist, then yeah you probably wouldn't be welcome because you sound like you'd be a huge pain in the ass the entire time you're there.

The first story is a classic case of what we call “False Advertisement” Edit: I got through the entire video, and… YIKES. Story 2 - I swear, these sorts of players just don’t understand how consent and want to use whatever trick in the book and in the streets to get what they want, and if they don’t get it, they HULK THE F*** out. Doesn’t matter if one is a woman or not, it’s still harassment and should be nipped in the bud the first sign of it happening. Story 3 - Strange how often we see these kinds of DMs/players in RPGHorrorStories, is DND a lure for them to vent out their hatred of those who don’t follow “correct” gender alignments and tastes? As for their “I don’t feel welcomed in that crowd” comment, that is kind of a d*** move (big shock I know), especially since I have identified myself as being someone who cannot find their own gender alignment and tastes definitively. It’s not fun at all to feel like you feel like you’ve got to hide things from hateful people that don’t like things about you that can’t change. Story 4 - This one resonated with me for quite a few reasons (one of the details is being somewhat feminine despite not being female), though I have to say that Kat is only one of two issues in this one - the DM is also guilty here seeing how they did nothing to prevent her from trying to change OP’s character to fit her desire for what Kat wants, her attempt to force her character onto OP’s (married and prideful) character, and very apparent harassment despite how much OP had made it clear they are NOT interested in her in-game. If anything, telling OP after they left the session and the game itself that Kat had a crush on them was not at all helping either the DM or that problem player’s cases. Story 5 - …wow. The double standards here are staggering. I don’t think I even need to explain as to why this sucks so much, it’s as Crispy said: “Oops, all Edgelords”. Hopefully when I get my chance to enter the DND scene as a player I won’t have to deal with any of these sorts of players/DMs the first session. ._.

Playing as a character who's different to you is pretty much expected in D&D, a self-insert is frowned upon for obvious reasons, so why you've gotta play your own gender, your own sexuality, and own skin tone is absurd to me. So long as you're not doing some stupid crap like being offensive with it, it shouldn't be a problem.

I do not think that self-inserts are themselves, necessarily bad. At the end of the day, most people aren't character actors and so to some degree most PCs end out being to some level, a self-insert.

@Lalle Rue It's extremely common in the subreddit r/nice girls. Some girls use the mentality that "all men want it so it's not SA" , some try to live their lives like a toxic romcom or romance movie, thinking pushing unwanted advances will win the guy like in the movies and some are just that blatantly entitled. Thinking that BECAUSE they're a woman, they are entitled to whoever they're interested in, even when they're in a relationship. Because of some of the communities and social circles I'm in I have spoken to all these types and the mental gymnastics they pull to justify their predatory behavior AND play the victim and blame other people for their rejection is disgusting. I've heard a girl actually say "men can't be r-word victims because they always want it" . I've met a girl actually believe that gay men were only gay because they couldnt get a girlfriend and would harass gay men to try and date them, even saying "you don't have to be gay anymore". The girl who harassed me was a lesbian who said women can CHOOSE to be lesbian and tried pressuring me into dating her even though I'm asexual. She disrespected my sexuality saying it wasn't real and repeating that I should choose being lesbian because men sucked and she could "turn and fix me". I had to block her because she started to sext me and send unsolicited nudes. It's sad but some women genuinely believe that women can only be victims, not perpetrators so they get a free pass. Hell, there's even a guy in the comments saying its fake because he's never met a man that would turn down a woman... I thought you were saying something similar so I do apologize for misinterpreting your comment.

Intro: Wow, that DM was a dick. There was no reason to do that other than to "assert dominance" onto the players. I hope everyone drops out before session 2, since it's going to be miserable with someone like him running the game. Oh My God... (CW): Got to love the "fetishizing LGBT people" claim, from the woman trying to r*pe their fellow player's character. I think I've heard that claim in another horror story, not sure which one. Either way, there's a stronger argument to make claiming that she was doing the same with heterosexuality than OP was with homosexuality. Got to love double standards. DM Who Can't Handle the Gay: Yeah, I agree to leave the campaign. Better to have the fallout now rather than later. And as a conservative straight guy myself, I think your husband is a bit in denial. It's not that hard to understand being around someone who makes you uncomfortable isn't healthy, no matter the reason for the discomfort. And it will only get worst when the DM learns of it after "being deceived" for so many years. Either way, you can bet the DM will use it as an excuse to justify hating LGBT people. You Want to... What? (CW): It seems like it's female incel day. Yeah, Kat needs to respect being told no just as much as any other incel. Doesn't matter your sex, that behavior isn't appropriate in general, in or out of D&D. OP shouldn't have to roll to wake up, DM should have either say "no" or had him wake period. She (the DM) shouldn't take away power from a player in situations like this (I mean getting r*red, not being denied r*apping). Glad OP was able to leave that group. Oops. All Edgelords: I do wonder why no one other than OP had an issue with the player. I am a bit skeptical due to that. Of course, if it is real, I question the DM and their inability to see that homebrew is OP and fix it. He seems to not realize that the D&D Homebrew Wiki and DndBeyond's homebrew stuff aren't tested, and are there to be rated and judged. Nothing can stop a DM from talking to players and balancing their character after the first session.

I had some stories of players getting overwhelmed in a battle, but it was obvious the DM was not doing it on purpose. That was just how the dice fell and the players (including me) where being stupid. A party of 3 level 4 players should not really have a problem with some zombies, but zombies have the annoying ability to roll a constitution check to keep fighting when falling to 0 hitpoints. The Monk actually killed one on her first turn, so we thought the other 5 would be easy, but they just kept passing their constitution checks. Rogue and Monk went down and the Barbarian had to kill one 8 times until it finally stayed dead (the DM was audibly frustrated at the battle going so poorly for us). This was all on us; we could have ran at any time, because Zombies are slow and all of us had increased mobility; Monks and Rogues are extra fast runners, the Barbarian was a Fairy and could fly. The DM did establish that the Zombies where intelligent, so she decided they where so terrified after seeing the Barbarian hacking their friend into tiny pieces that they dug themselves back into the earth; with the Rogues leg (we used critical injuries). The story how Rogue got a new leg was even wilder: It involved a werezombie curse, a level 20 Harengon pirate and a ghost cat.

Rogue steps on Barbarian, which does quite some damage, because it counts as a sneak attack. Monk attacks, while Barbarian tries to get the innkeeper out, so we can lock Rouge in until the morning (Barbarian having a monk mindset and Monk a barbarian mindset is not something we planned). The innkeeper refuses to leave, because he thinks this is a trick to steal his liquor. Monk gets grabbed by an attack that automatically restrains without a saving throw, so Barbarian uses a sending stone to call a friendly NPC for advice, a level 20 harengon rogue and Monk's wife. Instead of giving advice, Harengon uses the sending stone to teleport there, knocks out Rogue and gives her a potion that should cure being undead. It kind of works. The difference between men and women "that guys": Men are told at large by society that if they persevere and keep trudging on they will get what they want in the end. That Guy men hear this messaging and will continue to push boundaries until their desires are sated. So it's similar to a Frog being boiled slowly. Eventually the Frog will jump out because it gets too hot, then the That Guy rages. Women are told that if someone tells you "no", it's because that person is sexist and wants to hold them back. Because society at large tells women that they don't have to be considerate to other people. That Guy women don't have to be accountable for their actions in game. They often run headlong into brick walls and then scream that the brick wall is somehow sexist. Granted there is overlap. You can have men who are not accountable and women who are groomers. But the trends speak for themselves.

The "that girls" are harder to spot than the "that guys", and when I say spot, I meant to say smell. There are less obvious signs of a that girl compared to a that guy and so they usually get away with more before people figure them out. Both groups tend to be terrible tho. As to the smell, I have heard of one story where the that girl actually did have terrifying smell usually associated to "that guy"

Story 3: This is called the paradox of tolerance, and the way to resolve it is to look at tolerance as a social contract. The contract you enter into in society says that you should be tolerant of those around you. If you become intolerant, however (for instance by being homophobic) you are no longer covered by the social contract, and thus do not have to be tolerated.

the story about the bi woman wanting to leave the DnD group because she found out the DM is very homophobic and her husband says she's overreacting.... ugh. First of all, the husband is being either very naive or is trying to downplay things because HE doesn't want to deal with it. Not exactly supportive and it doesn't sound like he's even trying to be realistic with his perspective. He's basically saying "just pretend your straight and you shouldn't have a problem. He doesn't know your bi, so--" but dude that's not the point. It's not whether he has done anything bad or not yet or the fact that yes, you could hide your identity and probably skate under the radar just fine... the point is she shouldn't HAVE to, and that making the DM feel like his hate is acceptable is stupid. When someone says "I don't feel comfortable in that company/community" because they specifically -hate that community-, excluding him from said community isn't "proving him right", it's creating a space where you don't have to feel unsafe. Sounds like she should ditch the DM and have a serious conversation about the reality with her husband; just because you can pass as cis-het safely does not mean that she should be expected to hide herself or shrug off when more visible members of the community have hate thrown their way.

Oh, gosh! I feel bad for the bi player in a campaign with such an anti-LBGTQ+ DM. I'm panromantic asexual myself, and I had a pretty rough time growing up surrounded by so many people who liked to make suggestive jokes and wondered why I never went past the crush stage. Some people wondered if my lack of interests in dating was due to any religious reasons, which led to me awkwardly explaining that I am not religious. For most of my life, I had no idea that I am asexual. I didn't even know it was a thing until a year or two after I finished college still in my early 20s. I actually cried when I finally learned about it because I was just so stupid happy and relieved to learn that I wasn't the only one like this as I had thought that there was something wrong with me or even might have been "broken" for years. I also had the great fortune of my mom, although not fully understanding it, being happy for me when I came out to her about it. To my surprise, many of my relatives actually thought I was part of the LBGTQ+ community though had no idea what my specific orientation might have been. When I came out to my family, they were all very accepting. Ever since I came out to my mom, I've been very open about my sexuality and am more than willing to explain it to anyone who asks or doesn't understand. When they express confusion as to how I could be pan AND ace, I compare it to having a crush on a fictional character or celebrity. You can fully enjoy the feelings you have of the crush, but don't have to worry about anything serious happening or feel the need to pursue said crush. This explanation luckily has helped a lot of people better understand my sexuality and be more respectful of me. Unfortunately, not everyone was so welcoming of my sexuality. When I first came out online to my followers, one random guy I've never spoken to before began harassing me with claims that "asexuality isn't real" and tried sending me link to "scientific studies that prove asexuals don't exist". I tried explain to him that asexuals are real as I am real and politely asked them to stop sending me such inappropriate content. They just doubled down and made me question if anyone was actually accepting of my sexuality. After enough harassment and my newly found confidence being dragged through the grime, I made a separate post asking people if they actually hated me for being asexual and explained the situation without naming the jerk who hurt me (I didn't name the person as I'm not a jerk and just wanted to know if anyone else had issues with my sexuality). Luckily, everyone else reassured me that they were happy for me and got very upset that someone was making me feel so terrible about something that didn't effect them at all. They all comforted me and some of them actually went out of their way to find out on their own who was making me feel this bad to tell them off. As it turned out, this random jerk had actually dedicated their entire account to being anti-asexual! I don't understand WHY someone would have such a strong vendetta against asexuals, but it really sucked to have them take out their negative opinion on me who had just discovered my asexuality and was finally feeling whole and proud for once in my life. While that jerk's harassment did hurt quite a bit, it actually turned out for the best. Because of the whole situation, I found out just how supportive and kind the friends I had made online truly were. I had always been willing to listen to their problems and give them advice when needed, but this was the first time I spilled my heart out to them and they not only comforted me but also defended me. Even one of my friends who I know was homophobic came to my aid and was accepting of me because they knew I was a good person and were genuinely happy for me. It felt really nice to have such a kind and supportive community of friends who truly did care about me. Thanks to that experience, I'm a lot closer to everyone and we have even stronger bonds. I've even become a strong voice for the LBGTQ+ community, especially to asexuals, and have helped a lot of people with their own identities.

Fellow Ace here and I feel you on wondering if you’re broken. Spent over 20 years thinking that myself. Then I learned about asexuality and suddenly my life just made sense. My mom has been super supportive, hell she even asked if I was lesbian when I was in my late teens. Followed up by, “it’s okay if you are. I’ll still love you but we cannot tell your grandmother, if would kill her.” My grandmother was really nice but super Catholic. That being said, I’m in a great dnd group. The dm asks constantly if I’m okay with something when it comes to relationship stuff because she knows I’m Ace. Then I shock everyone by playing a super horny pan changling wizard and a male roguelock who has a lady in every town they pass through lol. It’s fun walking in the shoes of other sexualities.

@@Ashtari I hear that. It's cool that your mom is so supportive of you. And yeah, I get older generations deep in their religion can be pretty horrified to find out a relative of theirs is LGBTQ+. My great grandma was super religious and I'd often visit her with my grandma at the nursery home. She had all kinds of Catholic stuff around her room which made me a bit uncomfortable. At the time I was visiting her so much I hadn't discovered asexuality yet but had decided for myself that I'm not religious, so it was a little unnerving for me. I still loved her and would bring her baked goods and flowers with my grandma, though after seeing how Catholic she was I decided that it was for the best that I never tell her that I'm not religious. Don't get me wrong. I do respect people's religious beliefs and will even incorporate certain aspects of a religion to my own personal morals. I just would rather not have a religion forced upon me, especially if they have a history from ancient to recent that really didn't appreciate people like me. I also have 2 D&D groups who are supportive of any LBGTQ+ players. In fact, my DM with my very first group (who I am still playing with) told us about his engagement to his boyfriend by introducing him as his ex-boyfriend. We all had a big laugh about it after the initial panic of him telling us the ex-boyfriend part. In my second group, we're starting a new campaign and two of the characters we're playing are actually non-binary/agender. I'm not really sure about the sexuality of my new character yet for the new campaign. Though for my character in my first game, she's currently set as aromantic/asexual. Mostly because she's a living doll (homebrew race). If she ever becomes a real girl, that may change.

@@Midnight3Wonder your character sounds really cool! I currently play several, two men, one woman, and a changeling who generally presents as female but has a bit of gender fluidity. My grandmother never bothered anyone else with her faith. In fact when my mom became Baptist (later Methodist then left organized religion as a whole), my grandmother never said anything to her, just went to her priest to find out if mom's soul would go to heaven. The priest by that point was used to my grandmother's questions and just reassured her that mom's soul was fine. I'm sure if I had come out to her, it would have been the same, with her going to a priest.

Then later came to the conclusion she was right. Glad you got support from family and friends. That anti-ace person is weird. @@eiriankageno It's so cool that your mom helped you figure out a part of yourself before you even realized it! I had a bit of a laugh when I found out that my relatives suspected me of being queer before I realized it myself. I actually kinda wish they had said something to me sooner about it. It's so nice when those closest to you not only understand that your queer but also accept it. It's even better when they help you acknowledge it. Yeah, I don't understand with that anti-ace jerk either. Whether they're bitter about being rejected by an ace or just mindless bigotry, it's pathetic reasons all around. First of all, no one can force someone to be attracted to someone they don't find attracted. It's wrong to force yourself onto someone who has no interest in you, regardless of their sexuality. Second, the whole idea that people different from one another is an offense and evil is just stupid. Whether they like it or not, queer people have been around since basically the beginnings of the human race. Even some of our favorite historical and mythological figures are queer. Hercules (bisexual), Artemis (aromantic/asexual), Hans Christen Anderson (gay/asexual), and so many more! These are just a few I can think of right off the top of my head. It's honestly ridiculous that there are still people in this world who think it's right to hurt people for having different expressions of love. So long as you don't cross someone's consent, are respectful to one another, and treat one another with kindness, there should be no reason to hate someone for having different kinds of love in their heart. It's so stupid and hypocritical. Love is love and that's all that should matter.

Intro Story: DM is garbage. Saying you'll balance encounters around what your party has and then completely fucking them over as punishment for not having something specific covered is awful. It'd be the same as having them all start at level 1 with basic equipment and having the first fight of the game be against ghosts and TPKing with the reasoning being "You should've made characters that would have magical weapons to hit the ghosts." It's nonsense. First Story: Sexual assault aside, pulling the "it's sexist to hit me because I'm a girl" card is garbage in a game ABOUT FIGHTING. Especially considering how cordial and patient OP was throughout the session, and the warning she was given before he attacked her, an attack that seemed like a last-resort way to get his point across. At the time, all other attempts to shut that down had failed. And at least it was just a punch; a goliath barbarian wielding a two-handed warhammer could've annihilated her if he'd wanted to. Fourth Story: Yeah, balancing homebrew is insanely important. Also, any new DMs out there, protip: double-check anything that's online. The homebrew things on danddwiki and D&D Beyond aren't, like, checked by WotC for balance; it's stuff anyone can put up on there. I literally saw a homebrew race on D&D Beyond on Crowe's Perch the other day that was called "God Blood" or something that the creator described as basically being able to do whatever the player wanted without having to roll and basically controlling the game. That's on there. That's a race that's technically playable if anything from D&D Beyond is permitted.
