😂 Adams is one of these people that think they were alcoholics but really they wasnt andci know this 100% because they wouldn't be able to walk on the pitch if an alcoholic. He was just a piss head and piss heads are making it hard for real alcoholics to get help! If you can go work you are not an alcoholic! Its that simple! If you stop without medication or having seizures you are not an alcoholic

Steve Bould was better than Keown. In some ways he was better than Adams.

Love Keown and he was an excellent old school defender but he was no Tony Adams. Adams was heart and soul, blood and thunder and would defend with his life. One of the best tacklers in the history of English football and was phenomenal in the air. Both boxes. They don't make defenders like Adams anymore. Mr Arsenal

Adams was seriously underrated. Never had the athleticism of Maldini (probably the greatest) but he was a great defender. After being destroyed in the 1988 european championships, he rose from 1990 onwards to be almost mistake free. Was well drilled, could read the game perfectly, had bravery, and actually got even better once Arsene Wenger took over at Arsenal. Martin, I'm sorry, love you and all that as an Arsenal fan, but you were not fit to lace Tony's boots.

@gladiatorscoops4907 Hugely underrated. After the disaster of the 1988 Euros, and after his jail term in 1990, he was a different man. Those incidents motivated him. And you're right, his tackling was second to none. 88 Euros aside, he never let England down. Also the fact that he was struggling with alcohol addiction, yet was still putting in a shift for Arsenal every week, says it all. A strong strong man.

I honestly believe Fowler was better. Better finisher, better weak foot, better header of the ball, better striker of a ball and could score any type of goal.

Owen had a great season no doubt, but the award was mainly given because Liverpool won 5 trophies in a calander year, Haaland had a far greater season than Owen did but lost out because Messi won the world cup... Winning it doesn't = the best player it's a combination of individual and team honours. Fowler was at Liverpool in that calander year, and had respectable numbers but was clearly past his peak.. so was never going to be contending with Owen at that stage, and at his peak the teams he played for were never capable of doing it. @@brenb70​

He wasn't better than Adams he had to leave because he couldn't get into the team Bould & Adams were the preferred partnership. Played for Everton & Villa before coming back to Arsenal .

Fowler was the best striker in England pre injuries, he was ridiculously good, although Shearer had more goals in those peak seasons, Fowler was getting better and better and scored all kinds of spectacular goals. Had he not got injured I reckon he would have been challenging Shearer at the top of the all time premiership goals list. .

@@misturmonson7423 He did and a same injury as Fowler, but as we saw with Shearer when he returned he was as good as ever and remained im shape his whole career, Fowler was never the same lost his sharpness, packed the beef on etc.. whether this was just one having a better mentality, one injury being more damaging long term or a mix of both we will never know for sure.

Fowler reminds me of Berbatov, a natural goalscorer with average pace but an insane amount of skill. Owen got more TV highlights because of his blistering speed.

Paul McGrath was better than Adam’s, Keown and Bould put together. Greatest defender of all time by a country mile.

as an Arsenal fan, I agree with R. Fowler...... Owen was brilliant finisher, but Fowler was equally skillful(just older)...... but despite Keown being a great defender, Tony Adams was obviously superior...... Tony Adams one of the most iconic CBs in history of PL...... Tony Adams is like "english F. Hierro"..... all around brilliant defender...... if our early 2000's CB pairing was prime Tony Adams + Sol Campbell, then our defense wouldn't have any competition...... and that was back when both Chelsea and Man Utd had some world-class defenders

Don't be an idiot, George Graham used him as a utility player, a lot of the time he wasn't even palying as a central defender he was playing as a defensive midfielder. For our important games under Wenger (at least in the first 5 years) he was always first choice alongside Adams.

Nothing between them is probably the most accurate summary of Owen and Fowler.

100% correct. Fowler was a beast, left foot, right foot, in the air, linking play and dropping deep…Owen could run very very fast, that’s it.

Cole, Collymore, Shearer, Sutton, Ferdinand, Wright, Sheringham, Hirst…there were some serious strikers around and Fowler on his day was the best. Owen can’t say he reached a level comparable with strikers in his era and his era wasn’t as good.

Fowler Pre injury was the best striker in England for me, and if he had remained Injury free I believe he would have been challenging Shearer for all time goals scored in the Premiership.

I said this months ago, but i cannot take Martin Keown seriously..... even more so now..

Owen was faster than Fowler, was a teenage prodigy like Fowler and was a better professional than Fowler. However, Fowler’s all round game and natural ability to score goals was superior to Owen’s. Fowler was the natural heir to Rush, but made bad decisions and had bad luck with injuries.

Adams could read the opposition strikers better than any England player in modern times ; he was undoubtedly Englands best defender for the last 50 years ; having said that Keown would be the first name on the team sheet centre back wise if he was playing today

Keown was a great defender who got better as he got older. Adams was elite…everyone knows that

Tony Adams left Arsenal in 2002 and so he was not part of the invincibles squad

I am a United supporter and i agree R. Fowler is a more rounded striker than M. Owen. But I think Keown is really thick skin to say that comparison of himself to T. Adam. 🤣

I remember Shearer going what 20 ? England matches zero Goals - and There's Robbie uncapped + itching to show Europe what was what it's 1996 - ends up 26 caps 15 as a sub 7 times subbed - What a waste - God like What Went Wrong .

I would agree with Keown, he was a better player than Adam’s. Keown would make my ultimate Arsenal squad but Adam’s just falls short. Keown has the monster factor that disheartens the opposition, you just don’t want to play against him.

Are you been serious? Tony Adams is widely regarded as Arsenal's greatest defender ever and one of the best to have played in the Premier league. Keown wasn't even better than Sol Campbell. I can also make a statement for Steve Bould.

@@ezekielnwosu1462 You are right Keown wasn’t better than Sol Campbell but that’s because Campbell was one of the best Center backs we have ever head. Not only was Campbell a pivotal part of the invincibles but he also is the only Arsenal player to score in a Champions League final. Keown was better than Adam’s and miles better than Bould. Keown was also a great international for England and even captained the team. Bould got like 2 caps for his nation. Campbell and Toure are the best partnership of Center-backs we have ever had (not including current players as they shouldn’t be judged until their career’s are over) I would put Campbell ahead of Toure if we are just judging on their Arsenal career but if we count Kolo’s time at City then they are neck and neck. For me Koscielny gets third as he was a fantastic player we just needed better players around him. Then Keown 4th and Adam’s 5th. I think David O’Leary is probably a head of Bould as well considering he has 558 appearances and played pretty much his whole career at the club.

The 90/91 title winning season when we went unbeaten except one game (when Bould went off injured) and the 94 Cup Winners Cup final proved it.

There's self confidence and belief and then theirs being straight up delusional😅martin was good and there's no denying it but tony was a captain leader and a club legend.Despite the fact that Tony had alcohol issues and was never really the most dedicated pro he really was a standout figure at the back and would show up in the big games tony was a fantastic player lead/controlled the back line,shouted at players to demand better of them, kept team morale and players respected him,people follow great leaders because they want to not because they're made to,and that's the difference between a keown and .co and a mighty tony adams he wasn't just a better player he was a more influential one too.Martin was just another centre back partner tony had along the way and was good but he couldn't lace Tony's boots in many aspects.
