He was one of the best young players I ever saw. I knew of him before he joined Arsenal and when he did, I knew the Gunners had a real gem. Watching him terrorise defenders, who at the time were still developing as the athletes we see today. Defenders back then, (especially British ones) generally didn't have the same level of pace or mobility. But he screwed his personal career by moving to Real so early. Yes he won a Champs League but so did Kalvin Philips.

It was a shame. I think his game would have developed better under Wenger’s guidance. He didn’t do too badly.

The writing was already on the wall during his last 12 months at L'pool which coincided with the 2010 World Cup in which he effectively played a supporting cast role during that tournament. Every club he played for thereafter (Chelsea, AC Milan, Atlético, Sagan Tosu) he looked like a shadow of himself.

@@user-mv7kh5sv9z Yes, that's a vaild point however, some say his progress suffered at Liverpool because he was unhappy and wanted to move on because Liverpool were not winning things on the same level as Chelsea and that affected his mentality at Liverpool. Martin is an odd man. He embarrasses himself amongst actual intellectuals, by thinking he's on that level. He is a king in his own house no doubt but outside of it, he embarrasses himself.

Keown is hard to listen to. Constantly uses the incorrect terms and generally butchers the English language.
