Margaret Court Arena: What's in a Name?

Margaret Court Arena: What's in a Name?
Margaret Court has become an awkward talking point in tennis.
Undoubtedly one of the sport's all-time greats on the court, she has become arguably its most controversial figure off it.
In tennis terms, no one has - and perhaps never will - won as many Grand Slam singles titles as the Australian's 24-strong haul (64, when including doubles).
But tennis struggles to celebrate its most successful champion due to a long rap sheet of offensive outbursts, including speaking out against LGBT rights, homosexuality and same-sex marriage while saying transgender children were the 'work of the devil'.
While her achievements can't be scrubbed from the record books, many feel tennis could and should take steps to reduce her prominence.
The most prominent call to arms is geared towards the stadium bearing her name in Melbourne. The Margaret Court Arena - named after her in 2003 - is the second show court at the Australian Open.
Named in recognition of Margaret Court's significant achievements throughout her tennis career, we ask: 'What's in a name?'

This video is about Margaret Court, not Serena Williams. This video is about Margaret Court’s hateful views, not about Serena Williams. The one has nothing to do with the other. @@BaselineTennis With respect, while you have centred your complaint upon Margaret Court, the principle you espouse has general application. I am exemplifying for you how widespread the damage could be, and asked a question you have chosen to avoid answering. Asked another way: Is Serena Williams exempt from having the same standard applied to her "hateful" ways in the eyes of many, or do you condone her type of behaviour while condemning Court for hers? There was indeed a point and you simply missed it. 15-0.

If you win 3 slams or more in a year then you have dominated those years and are the clear number 1. Quite possible with 2 slams in one year you'd still be number 1 at the end of the year. Dbls 8 Aus, 4 French, 2 Wimbledon, 5 US Mixed dbls 4 Aus, 4 French, 5 Wimbledon, 8 US. Played 15 singles slams from 1969 to 1973 and won 11 from 15 during the open era. You wouldn't find a top player today consistently playing singles and dbls, let alone mixed dbls. Probably playing 3 matches in a day during the slams and going deep in the tournament in all the events. Takes alot of stamina and endurance.

If Margaret court really wants to be respected she should first apologize for the comments that she made back in 1970 to the afro African community back in the days when South Africa was govern by the apartheid government.then she should apologize to the LGBT community.because even that she don't agrees with their ideas she should be like pope francis who once said I'm not whom to judge them
