Which means that she played nearly every single day during those tournaments. Sometimes even playing singles and doubles matches in the same day. Serena has 23 singles grand slams, Steffi has 22. Serena has 14 women’s doubles titles, Steffi has 1. Serena also has 2 Mixed Doubles titles, Steffi doesn’t own any. Never made it past the second round. Serena has 4 Olympic Gold Medals, Steffi has 1.

A genuine champion knows when to shift gears to the next part of your life. All of the Williams family have left a legacy of excellence for tennis. The examples made for future generations will endure. She is THE kind of citizen of the world that we can all use now. Thanks Serena! Live long and slap that backhand!

She's a diamond, a living legend, an obviously brilliant and good person. Who couldn't love her? She expresses herself honestly, showing her vulnerability. It's not easy, when you've done something super creative your whole life, that you have to give it up. Still, it's hard to believe she's really "done" with tennis. I think we all want to believe she just needs a rest.

I admire Serena greatly as a lifelong tennis fan. But also as a lifelong tennis fan, it's obvious to me she wasn't going to win another slam. When Serena was winning slams she wasn't losing early in tournaments to relatively unknown players like Harmony Tan and Tomljanovic. It was time to go, and i wish her all the best.

Serena has the fans she deserves.

I hope she plays one more year and stay fit and healthy. She should get more matches under her belt because she played herself into match fitness for the US Slam. She should probably skip the French Open: a) it’s not her strongest slam b) we don’t want to risk unnecessary injuries sliding on clay c) they don’t deserve her there…they gave her the most trouble. She broke US Open money earnings record! All the events would love to have her one last time.

That Tom Brady answer makes me feel like she MIGHT go back to doubles, honestly she could play singles but Serena loves purpose and the doubles game lacks the spotlight it deserves because of the theatrics that singles show especially with Serena and Venus and the Big Three but the only time doubles is highlighted is when those persons play but even if this isnt the case, I could see her coming to support younger tennis stars especially young black girls gain support in tennis because the fact we only have 2 black females who are actually winning consistently baffles me when America has such a connection to sports in general. It really shows how uncommitted the WTA was in finding more gems like Serena but they'll never be another gem like Serena.

She's going to play the Australian Open. hope she's working on her fitness.
