Mapping Out Perception | Jordan B. Peterson

You or someone you know have probably wondered at least once in your life, "why did the chicken cross the road?"
Perception is very tightly associated with action, moving forward, and emotion. We tell ourselves that "wherever I am, somewhere else could be better." This could be a plan for our future, 10 minutes from now, or even ten years from now. Point A is never as good as it should be, which is why we aim for point B.
Referenced in this clip is the Self Authoring Suite, which is linked below should you be inclined to map out the perception of your past, present, or future self. bit.ly/self_authoring_suite

I hope you see this! I’m glad that you’re packaging and labeling excerpts. You’ve provided so much valuable content, but most people won’t watch some of the longer speeches, interviews and lectures. People have so much competing for their time, much unhelpful or unhealthy, and so lengths under 30 mins, let’s say, may be more likely to be watched or added to Watch Later. Also, you’re certainly better qualified to name your videos than most and your name in the name of the channel adds credibility. Finally, please consider presenting a video highlighting the existence, inevitability and significant of the various types of hierarchies in society, business and nature. Or just society, whatever. One of the primary responses to “inequality” and the demonizing of capitalism lies in the Pareto distribution. That's the basic question of values. Why do something over other things including dining not doing the thing? It implies what you value and by what value you have to choose certain values over others. It's the answer to the reason why we do absolutely anything up to why we blink at this very microsecond.

The self authoring programm he is talking about is absolutely mindblowing. Approximately six weeks ago I filled out 1/8 of his entire programm. Just one night of deep thought and then never looked at it again until today. Upon reviewing my entries, I was absolutely amazed that every aspect I analyzed or mapped out there already started to improve. Once one knows where exactly one is headed, the unconscious helps to make it come true. Give it a try, it's the most powerful thing I came across yet. Thank you Jordan!

Wow! This was EXACTLY what I needed. Currently in the process of improving my life and I was so stuck. The issue was not having a framework and a perception of the world that would provide me with clarity. And in the last couple of days I have actually been thinking about using a story and a path but I got overwhelmed so easily. I tried writing a story, drawing a path (where am I going and why?) but quickly getting distracting thoughts and confused. This is a habit by the way: getting overwhelmed very easily and it has to do with another habit: overcomplicate things to make them more interesting. (Facepalm) And then now I realize I have to first start with figuring out where I am / who I am right now! And truth is, i have no clue. I'm like peter pan; everything and nothing. I have a very poor sense of Self. I've always had such poor memory (short- and long term) and I'm only 28, so don't ask me anything about my past. I forget instructions 5 mins after they've been given. But I need to understand myself first, where am I now, what is my starting position A. Only then I can decide what I would like to do and where I want to go (point B) based on who I am. The timing of this video is incredible. A big sigh of relief. Thank you.

I’d say that’s the benefit of having any partner! We grind down our walls of perception until we can see right through to the core. Sometimes with unnecessary force, making up arguments out of thin air, but the result is almost always a more profound understanding of what drives us. In all the good ways and all the terrible ways. If I’m immature I’ll say it’s my partners fault. If I actually want to become a tiny bit better as a person, I’ll see where I can be in control of those bits that are usually buried deep down, that I can only see when someone close to me pushes my buttons in the right way. And when both of us do enough of that and still stick around each other, we’re a bit smarter about ourselves, a bit more understanding of ourselves and by nature of that, more understanding of each other.

I'm gonna have to watch that video a couple more times. Jordan’s telling so much important. But i had asked me about half of the video how I deal with the fact that so many people in my environment only pay attention to what they can achieve outside. This is sometimes so bad that they block out and destroy everything that could lead to the inside and if there are people sitting in a position of power, then it gets ugly. This can be politicians, but also your own family^^ This has always been one of my biggest problems here, that inner progress does not count in our society, or fairly said in our system, it is even usually seen as something that is harmful and genuinely asocial towards others. Is always the same as soon as you have the goal of becoming a better person and not the goal of making a career, making money or whatever you can make outside. Anyway, I can't handle it very well and the feelings of happiness are often missing. Or if, at worst, there’s a punishment for getting better. But it can’t be different if you turn the pyramid upside down by having completely different values and goals, haha. I just wanted to say this about the subject, maybe I’ll find a solution if I look at the video a few more times. Hadn’t really thought about it before.

Redundancy it’s everywhere not a wonder. I find it amazing how many people here say you have helped them to see when perception requires being able to see, which is to be able to think on one’s own, for one’s self. So what do they see. Nothing, they’re being led. And then I see a commenter below pegs it right when he describes the lead as neuroticism. We can expect a future prime minister to be for this awful since these guys ‘come to light’ or spotlight as it were to the public for a reason. After all, it was neuroticism that brought his own to light. There is no such thing as coincidences. Toxic man. Toxic. The current PM also of a naive approach was also led years ago. The psychology professor does have addiction, so what’s he leading people for. That’s not independence that’s war. That’s a whole lot of insidious manipulation over his head for a higher maintenance species, or he may have already thought of that in advance and used it, which is what neuroticism is and expects as demand defeat upon itself and its country. He thinks he’s helping. Who would ever be so naive when wisdom would say otherwise as building up his neuroticisms he’s definitely not building his own life so that everyone could be free to do the same. When I see his daughter making a title “when will (her father) make a comeback” I say what on the planet he never even came it’s just another boys club he worked for psychology apparently his whole life and someone else brought him to light not his work. But he takes all the credit. Ego. Distraction. It’s a self defeating thing. Ultimately, he’s up there talking about himself as a distraction in the making whether he knows it or not.

She has not developed real concrete ideas about when Life Begins Plus. I was impressed that she was brave enough to bring people on that has very strong opinions on both sides! The pro-choice woman was really bad at trying to get people to see things away if she does! She does not make sense. I read other comments and everyone can see it like very clearly! It would have been even spicier if she would have had them on at the same time! The pro-choice woman would have got her butt kicked! I am saying a prayer for her even though I don't like her because she is putting forward what she pretends are facts when they are not!! I pray that God helps me to see her the way he does also!

He never said that our perception is entirely purpose oriented or entirely anything for that matter. He was speaking to the best possible way to orient your perception for progress and personal development. Of course there will be distractions such as destructive momentary pleasures and even momentary pleasures that aren’t destructive. The idea that one should only walk a straight, narrow path is naive. We’re inherently flawed and I’m sure JP knows and understands that. But it’s up to you to be diligent about your habits, to ensure that you’re not stifling your progress with those things that aren’t supporting your purpose. Exploring nature and going for walks absolutely contributes to your higher purpose, as you’re taking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and grounding yourself in what’s real, perhaps meditating while you walk and taking maybe some much needed alone time with your thoughts. All things that help to support a more elevated perception. And I want to make note of your use of the word entirely. It’s indicative of some degree of absolute/all or nothing thinking, which could be contributing to the lack of nuance in your understanding. Keep keepin!

Jordan Peterson I think is high in neuroticism. But also high in extraversion.
