See I believe that the brain takes in the whole lot of more information then our mind lets us know it's taken in then we go to sleep and our subconscious mind takes over and starts to go through all that information that our brain has taken in then tries to process it but it just processes it in a manner that makes it into a story so that we can kind of understand it or in a way that were trying to understand it

Me too, I think we try to block things that make us sad and when we do that instead of confronting them we have to write it off as something that’s not reality. Therefore your brain will slowly unravel it and twist and bend it until you don’t have to think about it anymore. Maybe some dreams are you deconstructing reality, a reality you don’t want. Maybe others are building the reality you want and what that may look like. Idk but dreams have always been fascinating to me. Mainly the mystique of them.

I have strong dreams and I always remember several of the dream threads when I awake. I lucid dream every night and used to get sleeping paralysis every week (until I learned that you can get out of it by manipulating breathing). So I have had plenty of opportunity to study dreams from inside the dream and outside. My conclusion is that we are dreaming all the time both awake and asleep but are unconscious of the dreams going on in the background because of daytime operational cognitive process. When we close our eyes at night and slowly shut down our connections to the outside world we slowly begin to see the dreams, the dreams that are always there. That's why ideas pop in our heads from what seems to be nowhere. Every now and again when we are wandering through the day a bit of the dream surfaces for a moment. It's exactly what 'daydreaming' is.

Yes, that's right, we actually DO Dream all the time... 24/7.....it NEVER stops. We notice it at night because parts of our brain are not operating....when they operate while we are awake and conscious, we just do not notice our "dream sequences" because we have other thoughts grabbing our attention. Good Observation

Turbo Man I was watching another dude talking (somewhere on the net)about how we now know that memory isn't allocated in a set location in the brain but in tracks that journey along the brain heading to certain destinations in the brain. And those tracks wonder of in different directions like a tree root. That's why a memory can be composed of different emotions, a visual, a memory can have its own feel. I was thinking if I travel down one of the old memory tracks in my mind while I am doing my day to day stuff I'll get that weird 'what?, wait?... have I experienced this before? Feeling'.

Always sleep on your problems before you take any action. Also, ask your subconscious mind to work on problems for you before you fall asleep. Edison & Einstein, when stymied by a problem, would go take a nap & quite often wake up with the answer to their problems. The conscious mind sleeps but the subconscious mind never sleeps

I thought to myself how could my mind construct it without me tempering with it. I thought that if I had thought about this idea, it would destroy the dream environment, but it didn't. According to J.P. your dreams are the part of your brain that can't speak trying to talk to you. I would say that the part of you that can't speak does not trust these kind and gentle people. It is trying to warn you. In another J.P. video he comments on the Hansel and Gretel story. He says 'anyone who is fattening you up wants to eat you'. His point is to be careful of people who are too nice. Maybe that is what your dreams are telling you.

the internal gods or archetypes or whatever want you to have what you desire, and to avoid what you fear -- they come either from your primal desires, like for comfort, food, sex, ego fulfillment, or from the laws, rules, taboos and obligations you've learned over your life, i.e., the social norms that will bring you guilt or shame of rejection if you transgress them. Since everyone has the same drives and every human society has necessary taboos, the internal "gods" are similar in everyone. Jung came up with 'anima" and "animus", the rational self-aware part of the psyche and the hidden "shadow" self, which everyone has. And demons are negative emotions set free to fulfill themselves: cruelty, domination, lust, anger. Hm, then what are angels - pure principles, like compassion, courage, intellect - available to all as talents to save us from selfishness and sociopathy. I dreamed I was chosen by God to wait in attendance on the risen Christ arising from his tomb, that was inspiring - in an earlier age, it might have been an inspiration to join the clergy, or that I had some noble unfulfilled purpose to achieve - so, a good central concept around which to organize one's life. Hey, you might enjoy the "spiritual thriller" novel by on e of CS Lewis's friends, a guy named Charles Williams, who wrote The Place of the Lion -- he envisioned a psychic event that allowed "angels" to appear on earth, and influence human minds - a good riff on Platonic ideals, and these essential human gods you're thinking about

Man, Jordan Peterson is a really incredible person. And I don't think there are many, if any others like him. He's highly intelligent, he cares about humanity, he persists in trying to help people understand whats going on with human psychology. He Persists in searching for another, more pointed way of articulating an idea so that people will hopefully get it. Have that spark of insight about whats really going on in this life. I really wish there were a lot more people like him in this world. People that aren't completely afraid of themselves, and understanding things. people that, if they try they can GET IT. And then help the rest of the world eventually get it. He needs help.

In my mid twenties, i managed to have a lucid dream about my deceased father (its happened with other deceased relatives though I had to work for this "encounter"). The dicipline of setting the intention was fueled by grief, tragic circumstances and simply wanting to speak to him. Took me months, possibly years, on and off. Suddenly one night he was there and I was telling him off saying "what took you so long?" I used to write down dreams for years... it was very cathartic and never felt need to do it again, and hasn't ( literally like letting him rest in peace). He passed when I was 6. Im 36 now (the same age he was when he passed) and my gf is expecting. We can learn so much from pain. Allow yourself to feel it but be careful not to let it consume or be the excuse you abuse. I did for a long time. Theres so much out there (connection, intimacy, sensation, creativity, feeling fit, dancing, etc) that it would be a shame to let what happened get in the way of the experiences you want to have. In so far as dreaming and sleep goes, the quality and clarity of my dreams improved when i got into the habit of honouring where I was (before sleep comes). If you find trouble switching off, journaling waking thoughts a few hours before bed helped me.

Doctor Peterson is a wealth of psychological wisdom, and I dearly appreciate his commitment to his craft, and his openness and willingness to share freely with others. Regarding the topic of dreams and their meaning: I dream lucidly most nights, and I absolutely love the dream space. I usually remember my dreams with vivid detail, and I find great peace and comfort in interpreting my dreams, in that, I find doing so lends itself to resolving internal psychological conflicts, most of which are hidden within the unconscious, where doing so adds merit in coming to understand and resolve conscious matters of everyday life. My experience has demonstrated to me that the dream, emanating from the unconscious, is readily interpreted with almost certain accuracy by the same device - the unconscious mind. Usually, one's first impression of the dream's meaning is accurate. Also, it's very useful to "continue" the dream upon awakening from one. This involves replaying the dream to its natural end, and then imagining where the dream may culminate if it continued on past that point. As a side note: I have found that passionflower supplements (tinctures in particular), are very supportive in creating/allowing a dream space where lucidity becomes more readily accessible. I find that including this supplement adds depth and richness to all 5 senses within the dream, where colors, most especially are enhanced. Likewise, paying attention to the emotions one feels within the dream are key to interpretation, and the passionflower proves very helpful in sensing emotional content within the dream space.

Some people say that Cider increases the frequency of dreams by drinking one or two cans after bed time. Just last night I had one just to see if it works and damn... I had the worst nightmare. A nightmare that seems like it lasted for a full day. I was a blonde teenage girl in a house near a beach and I was about to be killed by my father, mother and couple of my father's friends. They all looked like tall and stocky build with very short hair and beards. They were fat and muscular. I remember the feeling of hopelessness and thinking how it will be at the last moment, how will I feel, a part of me didn't cared , I was accepting it. While locked into the bathroom, they came and held me down on the floor, everyone surrounding me and they started to torture me, starting from burning and cutting my limbs with knifes , I felt the pain even after I woke up. Then they said they need some toxic chemicals from the nearby store to apply to my wounds to make it worse, I could feel the evil and hatred in their eyes and hearts. They decided to send me to the nearby store and told me not to do anything stupid other than buying the chemicals. I saw my opening there, went to my room , acted normal and stupid like I was going back, they belived me. Grabbed my pink cased phone and on my way to the store I called police immediately, I remember the fear in me and as I was shaking the police female officer asked me where I am located, I couldn't even think clearly and I gave them two different cities as answer as my mind was very blurred... After I came back from the store, like how stupid I was instead of running, I felt like I couldn't. I went inside the house, and my father and the rest acted normal, I gave them the bottle of chemicals, then they grabbed my arm and went outside the house in front of the garage, It was sunny and beautiful weather outside, green grass and palm trees. They started to apply the chemicals on my arms , I felt them burning through my skin but I wasn't scared , I wasn't showing them any feeling of pain, I just stood there. Seconds later other three tall and bulky police officers came near the fence outside my house and looked at them calling through radio , " five suspects identified..." and something else i can't remember, they immediately came and rescued me and arresting my family, I was happy and sad at the same time, couldn't belive that I was still alive, but the saddness of losing all my family and being alone after. This is a very strange dream as I am a guy and I never had heard nor seen anything like that, nor movies or video games, where and what does this dream means, and why it felt real, I never tought for a second that it was a dream, as I said even when I woke up I felt the pain where I was tortured, then it vanished. Thank you whoever read this commend and I hope you are having GOOD dreams

I recently had a dream, in which my friend from work, a coworker and I, were wading through a black marsh, at night, with just enough twilight to see. There were mountains in the distance, but I didn't see what was behind. As we waded, black adders floated to the top of the water. He ran toward the mountains (Kept his job, livelihood) ; I however, ran the opposite direction and the snakes came after me. I found a small shack in the distance and ran into it for protection, but one of the adders got to me, and slithered up my arm and sunk its fangs into my shoulder (I lost my job, my livelihood). It seems that my subconscious was telling me that things are critical, and I must find antivenom (establish a new livelihood). Problem is, I awoke to reality, to determine the solution in real life... Dreams can sometimes spur change through subconscious symbols. I think that is what he is pointing out.

When I went on anti depressants I had strange dreams. I’ll give you three examples here. The first took place in a grayish, dingy bathroom, I was staring at myself in the mirror and I had no eyebrows. Pretty strange. The second dream I had, I was building a model ship out of popsicle sticks. Also weird. And lastly, this was a couple months ago, I dreamt that I was running in some very snowy mountains and I was trying to get to a castle fortress at the top of the mountain, but guarding the way were these giant tree, primate hybrids that came to life and tried to mercilessly kill you when you went near them. I evaded them and got to the top of the hill and met with the rulers of the castle. One of the rulers loved ones had been murdered and as punishment he was sending myself and thousands of other people out across Ice fields in the mountains to be chased and hunted by those tree ape things. Most people died, I barely made it to safety. Just barely. It was such an adrenaline rush, it felt like war.

Woah, I had a dream lastnight that resulted in me sleepwalking. So, I was dreaming that I was in the bathroom. Not sure why. But the bathroom was super vibrant and bright, well lit. But when I looked into the mirror at myself. It was dull and kind of dark. I remember not being able to see my eyes at all. I would get super close to the mirror, and I remember feeling really nervous/scared that something was going to pop up and scare me but it never did. I woke up (in real life) standing in the bathroom in the dark. Woken up by a family member and they said they heard me saying “please get me out of here”. But I asked about it and that was also a dream. I woke up again completely drenched in sweat and couldn’t move that well. I just remember thinking “wow I think that I am dying” for whatever reason I though I was extremely hypotensive and I remember looking at my watch and my heart rate was at 60bpm. Not sure what my thinking was. But it left me feeling so nervous and uneasy this morning. Almost like I still wasn’t sure that I was awake. Unreal.

He opened it and there was my grandmothers severed head with eyes and mouth wide open in horror as if she was screaming. I woke up sweating profusely. She had died shortly before I had that dream so it was very disturbing. Another dream I had where I was petting a baby lion but suddenly a knife was in my hand and I was stabbing it. It screamed in pain. Its sibling lion cubs helplessly pawed at my hands trying to get me to stop but I couldn’t stop. I just stabbed the lion cub more aggressively trying to kill it and end its suffering but as I did so all it did was scream more and agitate it’s siblings more. Blood was everywhere. Eventually the screaming was so loud and blood curdling that I just woke up. I’ve had many more disturbing dreams like this as well. Those are just two examples.

I used to have reacuring dreams as a child, then around twelve or so everything went mostly black. I had dreams still but they were far and between. Now I can't say the blackness was not a dream it felt like one but there was no sound, light, or touch but still had that weird weightless to it. Then they came back regularly when I was fresh out of high school. Sometimes they are vary much story based and feel real sometimes they hope around. I can only remember bits and pieces of what's happened in these dreams. I can only remember a few clearly. First being one from when I was a child and I'm surrounded by a bunch of old fashioned doors in a circle, the floor has carvings but I could never remember those, same with ceiling. The doors slowly move closer and closer to me who is standing in the middle of this room. I try to tell out to my mother but I have no voice to tell with, they close in and in with me screaming and crying, the fear feeling so real, until they closed in on me and I awoke. Second is not so stressful of a dream, but one that really scared me, and is from the time where my dreams were mostly black. I was in school still. The day started with me waking up, going through my routine of brushing my teeth, and showering. Getting dressed, grabbed my bag. Got on the bus, went to school like normal, came home and went to bed. The second I hit the pillow I woke up. It has been by far the most realistic dream I've ever had in my life, that I legit thought I had gone to school that day. So it felt like I went through 2 days in only 1. The last one is a mix of many dreams that all have the same thing in common. It takes place sometimes in present, sometimes in the future. I have a girlfriend, or wife, vary much in love, sometimes I even have children, feels like I'm me but also not me and I've lived this life my whole life. These dreams are a vary close second to how real they felt with my school dream. These ones in particular make me extremely angry and depressed when I wake up, as I feel like I've lost my family. Although it does not take me vary long to realise it was not real, it keeps me down for awhile after, and even hurts that these people who were so real I'll never meet again, people I had felt like I cared about for many many years, hurts even more so that I can't even remember their names. Then it bothers me even more that it gets me so worked up over people my mind created and are not even real. My final bit of dreams is again a combination of many with the same concept. Sometimes it's a creepy little ghost girl who attacks me the second I notice her, when she does there is this weird sound I can never describe. Then there is the gigantic invisible dude, that randomly grabs me and bear hugs me and I can't move, I have a phobia of being restrained so this one sucks. The third is of this weird shadow creature that sometimes mimics the girl, and invisible dude in either shape or feel(invisible dude) sometimes it has vary little logical shape, this thing attacks me similar to the girl but not when I notice it, it likes to stalk and hunt me from the shadows. It's darker then the shadows itself but moves vary fast which makes it extremely hard to see or follow.

It's interesting to hear him say that dreams occupy spaces of uncertainty, because I read from the people who came up with the human givens theory that people who worry a lot tend to dream more, and spending all that extra time in REM dreaming and not fully resting can and will make the person wake up feeling exhausted which inhibits their ability to be conscious and energized the rest of the day, possibly leading down the road of depression.

I have all different ranges of dreams. Dreams that I barely remember, ones where I know I’m dreaming and ones where I only exist in that dream state. I have only ever had two dreams that felt 100% real after waking up. Could be influenced by my experiences, but both came out of nowhere at a time where nothing I was necessarily experiencing, while awake, was related to the dream. Both felt like “visions”, not dreams.

He made some interesting points there like where do our dreams come from if we can’t do it during the day, often we are not in control so what is? And the fact that it shows us things we don’t know, I guess because with our busy lives we don’t have time to think about them. But how is that possible if they are our dreams!?! Dreams are pretty amazing I know that much.

Every action is a deliberate choice, no matter what. You have the power to either DO, or NOT to do. You still make a choice to perform every single action, regardless of what might have gone into the motivations or explanations FOR those actions.

Dreams are direct messages from the subconscious mind, usually giving us guidance. Fear based dreams or nightmares, are normally stress release mechanisms. The subconscious mind is connected to the universal mind (God), and is therefore connected to all that is. That's why dreams can tell us things that will happen in the future, and that's where ideas come from whilst we're awake. If you meditate every day you will silence the chatter of the conscious mind, and gain better access to your subconscious, and therefore receive highly meaningful and accurate messages from your dreams.

you cant control these personalities, but you can align them. I use the analogy; 'If your conscious self was on a row boat with an oar along side all your other version of subconscious self, which direction would you be going? In circles? or forward? ' For a long time I had not aligned myself, so my row boat was going in all kinds of directions. after some time and realigning myself, I am now at ease and moving forward on my vessel in the cosmos. sometimes i loop out and that's what i need.
