I like that you included mental health in the same group as physical health. Its health in general. since its so interconnected, a drug jordan used for mental health severely effected his physical health, because neurotransmitters have lots of effects across the entire body but a lot of people imagine mental health to be only a brain problem which its not

He's following Joe Rogan's lead with the clips. Multiple revenue streams and audiences. Easier for most to listen to. The average commute is 25 minutes. That's 2 different conversations that he can tie in back to back. Plus every other positive externalities that we can't measure, other channels, other likes and subs. He already has and owns the content. Poses an interesting question. Could we measure how effective listening to 5 educational podcasts a day help increase efficiency and proficiency on the job? can we measure the positive effects on mood? I find value in this shorter form clips of the long form podcast. Cliff notes version, easier to watch multiple times to digest.

ITT: People continue to misunderstand that Peterson is not saying the hierarchies are good, but that they are necessary and inevitable if anything is going to get done. And also misunderstanding that the type of hierarchy he's talking about isn't fixed in place -- it's always possible to move up.

It's clear that when it comes to talent people are not equal and trying to make it so is ridiculous. Equality of outcome is preposterous. The real problem with hierarchies is stupid bosses, favoritism etc. and true talent not being rewarded properly. People enjoy exploiting geniuses even though intelligence is an admirable trait.

The problem with addressing those problems you list is that some people seem to think that the existence of these issues is proof that the concept of authority is corrupt or dysfunctional. Then arguing that hierarchies never existed until tyrants came along to implement it.

Equality of outcome is separate from equality of opportunity. Equality of outcome is also different than equality of support. Yes there is an issue when people look at a result and say “we don’t want this”, like if someone looks at Jeff Bezos and says that billionaires shouldn’t exist. That is the wrong application of equality. What we need to advocate for is rather the unburdening of those who have been dealt a rough hand. Ok, we’ve got billionaires- great! Let’s have AT LEAST the same taxation rate apply to them as it does for everyone else. They shouldn’t be able to get out of taxation when your mentally disabled adult who works can’t get out of taxes, and Lisa from accounting can’t get out of taxes. Plus we absolutely need to de-institutionalize unconscious bias with conscious alternative choice. For instance, historically it has been a lot easier for white women to be models and actresses than it has for black, latina, and asian women. Many beauty and self care products are formulated first and foremost for white women. Our sense of beauty has been morphed to look at whiteness as beautiful. We know this is fickle just as much as we can look at old paintings and see “fat” as being beautiful, compared to 80s supermodels who were stick thin, whereas today everyone wants to be curvy. A more rounded nose or natural ethnic hair are not always viewed as desirable because we have chosen to lift up some and say “you’re beautiful” based on something outside their control while we also disregard those who are not pretty by the same standard (which is not a standard, it is a ploy of society to infer a dominance hierarchy where there is no real value in doing so). Or look at medicine, when students are in medical school they are mainly taught what to look for on white skin. Many issues that present as a rash or something on the skin would look different on me than they do on my boyfriend who is hispanic. If his healthcare provider wasn’t aware of this, how would they correctly and quickly diagnose him…? Or how most test parameters for things like hormones and nutrients are actually based on data for MALES and we don’t have a separate system for those who are biologically female, or even just an average between both sexes… These things can be resolved by choice within these respective industries. Look how much has changed in modeling in the last 15-25 years. Or look at how the study of humanity went from telling women “you’re a woman, being a little crazy is normal” to psychology and medicine saying “actually you have thyroid issues (affects 1:5 women) and you can do something about it”. The chase for equality is not about outcome, it is at its core about truly valuing all humans and treating them with the respect they deserve. The answer is not classist, nor anarchist- it is a holistic approach of compassion for humanity.

It's not that people are clueless to it, it's that they don't want to admit it because it's an extremely uncomfortable truth. That's why you have people claiming every, as JP might put it, "manifestation of hierarchies" is instead just a "social construct." People would rather believe anything unequal is nurture and not nature.

One major flaw: Having different skills is different than inequality; having no skills. If technology allows us all to be genuises, creatives, strong, etc. we will take it. And it's probably gonna happen within 100 years or so. We will still find other ways to be unique. But we will, overall, level up. And that's a good thing.

The funny part about hierarhies is that those who value the hierarchy most is that once they get to their desired level on that hierarchy after they settle in there are going to get painfully bored. So bored that they cannot understand why their accomplishments when they get there does not feel like the ecstasy they thought it was going to be as promised to them. At that point they can start to mentor others for better satisfaction for themselves too - Unless of course they have been all along setting terrible examples on how to achieve success while on their way up.

Douglas Murray's criticism of JP's idea of hierarchies is spot on - what hierarchy? There are an infinite number of potential hierarchies. And one tribe's alpha is another tribe's most reviled man on the planet. Love JP, but I think his ideas here have some serious cracks in them.

You are taking the perspective of Plato, the submission to intelligence over any other...which I agree with. But the problem with this and I think you know it, is the ego of a person. Humans, while some of them can accommodate their capabilities, but others and that is the majority, cannot and will not comply with the reality of their mental capabilities, that's why we have mass dunning-kruger in our society, and we got people that would deceit and hurt to reach what they personally believe is their deserved achievement, while still in denial of it and talk crap about ethics and idealist personal characteristics...What Peterson's perception creates is a society built upon status like you said, and the modern american society is the great manifestation of liberal system based on status. Hollywood is the primary example, for people love them for their characters and personalities, but in reality behind the cameras hollywood is built on the nature of corruption. Hierarchical society based on intelligence and each own skills that fit to the perfect opportunity is the best system but I am afraid it is an idealist perspective

@@MM-KunstUndWahrheit Even dumb people can lead if they know best but they probably usually wouldn't. Anyway, I would say that it is possible to create such a society if the idea becomes popular and anyone who tries to make anyone else their bitch for no reason is mercilessly shamed for it as a result. That is what I am trying to introduce in my book based on this concept, wherein most people are ethically perfect through programming themselves to be according to personality type. By using the mbti system. That's what I did. I'm an ENTP type by the way. They don't have to be PERFECT per se, but at least the ethical/moral bit of their minds have to be perfect for such an idea to work.

Yet when it comes to leadership: even “divine appointed” leadership there is a tedious accountability and responsibility. Even the high priests had to tie a rope around their waist upon entering thee holy throne room of God, in case they were judged unworthy and dropped dead. God is not a respecter of people. God is thee ultimate leveler. Hannah’s Prayer is very good perspective on what humans deem valuable and what God sustains and sees valuable. The arrogant are leveled and broken. The humble and meek are lifted up. Status just gets sold for parts 😉

I teach high school currently in California where schools have been shut down for some time. Students seem to have lost all motivation to do work. Students that normally get straight A's are failing and so on. It is weird that grades seem to have no effect on many students motivation during this distance learning. Do you think it is correct to hypothesize this is because something about not being physically in school has abstracted their hierarchies? They also all seem to be quite depressed as well. If I wanted to get them back on track would it be useful to , in some way, help them understand the hierarchies they were operating within still exist?

Coming from someone who went from a 5.0 GPA, to a little less because of covid... Somewhat. It definitely helps that we want the incentive for status. However, it's the collective momentum that we posses. The community - the "what we're collectively doing". And that underlying collective mentality sets up the action of 'doing the work' as something normal - making it something subconsciously automatics that we don't have to think about consciously doing and by extension not consciously conjuring up willpower to do it. When we are removed from the environment, that underlying subconscious expectation is gone, making the action of doing homework SOMETHING we have to actually think about doing. Before in our community we didn't think about doing it, but now that we're removed from our environment it's actually become SOMETHING. Additionally, that something requires effort, and since we're deprived from our community - just lilke war because the soldiers to your right and left charging towards the battlefield inspire you and keep you moving forward - you too lose momentum as well. But yeah, to not invalidate your position, the status position is an incentive as well, but a slight touch. Thank you for reading.
