@@lifewasgiventous1614 I think one of his points was we each need to honestly determine that for ourselves - that we have an inner utility designed to guide us in the proper direction. I think where people run into trouble is when they are not honest with themselves. That can become easier and easier over time until we have chosen dishonestly so often that we can convince ourselves that any action, no matter how horrible, can be justified. And, apparently, it can happen pretty fast, according to the book he mentioned about the German police going to Poland. To say Peterson is well-read is an understatement. He has relied on, over time, his own inner compass to pull out of his readings the things that seem true to him. It can take a lifetime. Until then, just stay out of prison. Johnny law and the system won't hesitate to let you know what they think is true.

Yeah and he also esentialy invites you to critique these ideas. He shows what he came up with but if someone else's hypothesis seems better he will consider it. It was nicely visible during the debate he had about political correctness where he started with his take on that but after Stephen Fry spoke Peterson aligned himself with Fry because it looked like his take was just more fitting. I have huge admiration for him because of that. That's leadership, he shows that his approach is one of the correct ones by actively living it out and proving that it works, even though mistakes happen on the way. Best kind of motivation if you ask me.

Yeah he really does this. I saw him live in Manchester and during the q and a he just entered a deep thought state and was talking his thoughts out loud. It was so inspired. A magical moment where you realised you were in the presence of a great thinker. Dave Rubin closed the computer, the audience went completely silent - you could hear a pin drop. He started empathising with the theoretical person he was talking about and you could hear the pain in his voice and you could see people in the audience in awe and start crying. And then he finished and there was nothing more to say and he got a massive applause at the end and Dave ended the q and a because you couldn't really follow that.

I don’t agree with everything Peterson says. But no one should. I watch him because the way he speaks is like he is constantly thinking out loud and trying to organize his thoughts to speech in a careful manner. Like a direct path to his thoughts. There is a deep honesty in the way the man speaks that I think isn’t very common anymore. It’s the reason I think a lot of people are drawn to him and why he seems to do so well in debate. There isn’t anything hidden behind what he says, no sugar coated ulterior motives ever so present in discussion these days.

It is the great shame of the modern "Left" that they disparage this man. We have a saying down here that the Labour Party used to comprise the CREAM of the working class, and it now is comprised of the DREGS of the middle class.. That may be harsh but I suspect it's true . Never stop searching for truth.

All it takes is a spark to start a fire.. and JP is a fire starting maniac. I've seen this clip 4 or 5 times and I always come away with more understanding than the previous times watching. He invites all of us to look for that spark within us by honestly sharing/relating the truth that he has come to know (his spark) and asking us to honestly wrestle with the thoughts intellectually. The Truth is Truth from the surface down to the bottom of the abyss.

"There are no great men of God; only weak, pitiful men at the hands of a great and merciful God." What we're seeing with JP is a manifestation of God's wisdom through a chosen vessel. When the world seems like it will tip over in one direction from an overwhelming amount of destructive stupidity and immorality, God declares, "Not so fast," because ultimately, the master will require an account of the stewards left in charge. JP is an indictment against the wisdom of this generation. "He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them. They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night. But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, And from their hand. So the poor have hope, And injustice shuts her mouth." Job 5:12‭-‬16

Of the many JP videos I have watched so far, this is definitely one of my favorite. He talks here about burning parts of yourself that are dead as a vital step in the transformation process to become who you could be. I am right now in that process and it amazes how right he actually is about what he is saying. Being well articulated in your speech is one thing, but to be accurate in the smallest details is insane. I am blown away. Indeed I am finding out how much I actually LIE, about the painful process of letting those parts of yourself go that are not worthy, especially if it's almost your entire being that is pathological. I can very much relate to Dr Peterson. I am 27 and I have almost the same problems as he had when he was my age, like the lies for the sake of winning the argument. I have been trying to get my act together for the last 18 months or so now. It's been only one month however since I am doing it consciously. I have listened to my conscience, observed my thoughts and behaviors and identified all what needs to burn off through writing it all down. It's a LOT. And a LOT of work. And painful too. I realized I have been living a pathological life all this time. Tomorrow is the start of the second month of my transformation (18 April - 17 May). Wish me luck while in a few hours I descend into the underworld to confront the dragons. After observing and watching, it's now time to slay. ;)

We’re liberating from earning the money to purchase it, and we’re liberated from the maintaining of it, storing it, insuring it, managing it, keeping it, because we don’t’ have it. :-)

What I've learned is that IF an individual does not begin with a truth then what ever they build upon it will forever be lies. It's an unfortunate fact but there it is. If a person is made of more sturdy stuff then what they will do is work backwards to a truth but will realize very quickly they must change whatever they have built up in themselves on that first falsehood.

Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but through me (or by me). Therefore, the Truth leads to the Father. I think that he recently converted. Too often he sidestepped the question of whether or not he believe in God, but his reply would always refer to a god. Now he gently inserts Scripture into his lecture.

Brian G C I was thinking that too. I don’t know how a man like this could learn all that he knows and not end up running into the open arms of Christ. Especially with all the heat he takes, his diet, his lifestyle, his past. He needs Jesus to strengthen him and to keep his steps. Peace and Blessings to you.

Yes - no one comes to the Father except through the spiritual reality of Christ, his teachings and taking them on-board and integrating them, which is what Dr Peterson is expressing to us - the qualities of truth, love, compassion, justice etc.

@@briangc1972 Actually no. I've watched a great many of his clips and interviews trying to sort this out. If you watch more, you'll find several where he states his actual opinion: He thinks we should all "live as though the bible was true". In other words, he doesn't seem to think it is literally true, but rather that there are basic truths underlying our narratives, myths, and 'holy books', and if we live according to their precepts, our lives will be in line with The Truth.

It's amazing watching Jordans mind unfold, breaking down everything he is saying and going deeper into his own word than most of us could jump into. Listening to him drives me to believe that not only is he teaching us whilst he unravels his thoughts infront of us, but I think in a way he is also teaching himself and has in a way took himself in as a patient that he wants to psychologically help. He has essentially became his work and that's a powerful thing, it's a form of self awareness that should be adopted more often by us as individuals.

15:10 This idea of letting unworthy die is what I see happen in almost every episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares as (usually) men, who see their restaurants and recipes and methods as something a part of them....have to let it all die. It's painful to watch when you really understand what is happening to them.

kev c Eh, the only thing I see happening on his show is Ramsey says "Your recipes need to be more like mine. Mine are the only acceptable recipes in the world. Also, my taste in decor is also the only acceptable one in the world." He doesn't try to work with the owner and the current menu to find something that can be successful. He demands instead that every restaurant taste like and look like his own. He is an amazingly egotistical little twat who isn't actually interested in trying to help most of these people. He does have some good insults, though.
