Manor Lords: Starting To Build Our First PROPER CITY!

Ойындар

Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!
Get a soldier into your game: www.nexusmods.com/manorlords/...
Manor Lords on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/13...
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

That'll likely come after Greg releases a few more maps: the creek is essentially just a small trench and has no other features. I am exited for that point tho! Getting some water mills? Sleuth gates? Irrigation channels? 🤌

Put the tavern where the old manor was because there are pubs in the UK called the old manor (sometimes the olde manor)

you should maybe try temporarily deleting the fields next to where you want the dividing treeline for a bit and then put the field back after you have a forest, i think that might work. Also i think you should put one big house where the manor used to be to sort of think of it as the lords second holding in the village up there

I found this channel with the last series and I am soooo hooked. I'm Czech from a small town close to Ostrava and I have never been into history (I'm studying maths and chemistry so completely different field 😂😂) but how you are commenting is really fascinating and I'm definitely going to learn more about why villages were built how the were. Overall you're just great

For realism, I would really appreciate it if Bavarian looked up historical castles. Since the forest is going down, the manor should be at the highest elevation, closer to the original position. Otherwise people can shoot arrows down at the house from an elevated position, or even roll stuff down the hill. And no trees are allowed for hundreds of yards around any fortified position. Trees provide cover and climbing for enemies, and can even be felled on top of the walls. I really think some authentic castles would improve the feel of these villages so much!

Except we're not building castles, we're building manors. My understanding is that fortified castles were not a feature in the area and time the game is based in.

@@bonnie115 fortified castles were for sure a thing in late 14th century Franconia, the inspiration for Bavarians series tho is roughly the area where the Ostsiedlung happened , which is East Germany and also when it comes to the period, late 14th century (which the game is roughly set in) is not that accurate for the colonization era, its kinda late, somewhere in the 13th century would fit more. Fortified castles tho, were a thing in both scenarios, the game setting and where this series takes inspiration from

The „ push foreward“ stance, seemes to be the best one for both defence and attack. Someone tested all possible combinations and the spear units with this attitude were the best performing. Archer are now pretty useless but that may change with the patch. I mainly look for your historical villages and building qualities. The battles are a nice bit of entertainment in between.

29:25 That shot looks so gorgeous! Your designs are the best that I've seen on KZread, and your commentary is so interesting and well-presented. You've kinda ruined watching other people's playthroughs of Manor Lords for me, lol! I'd love to see some of the villages expanding and eventually merging into one big city at some point. Maybe not the ones you've built so far, but it could be interesting to explore such a phenomenon in one of the other regions.

Oh, it's becoming beautiful! Would love if in the future we would have AI doing economy battles, making their own cities compete (instead of just fighting will man at arms for things). So that we can have also urban stretches of the map fighting for prominence, while their lords make as many farms possible to feed the towns.

Wow this turned out great. To be honest i was wondering from the birdeye's view if your project might become to clogged up, but your walkthrough was an eye opener. Truely gorgeous indeed. Hope you'll do one in winter time aswell, maybe when the city has grown somewhat. Found the sunny winter days can give amazing pictures aswell. On the trees planting. It should be possible to get this small strip between the rundling and the major city filled with at least some trees. Maybe have a single family in the forester hut and make the planting circle a bitt larger. Looked as if your planters where bumping into eachother and politely make way resulting in no one actualy planting :). Not sure, but I did have some succes getting some trees in my village centers by letting the foresters do their thing for a year. Net result only a handfull of trees but still very much worth it. Walking around the village in the summer and finding a the market shaded by a full grown tree was a pleasant surprise. On new building sites roads also work as sculpting tool. Either by isolating existing trees with a temporary road around them or place a road directly on the tree. Roads do not cut trees, they just end up in the middle of the road. Anyway's aswum project/ Looking foreward to the next episode :) p.s. How many years are you now into this settlement ? 10- 15 years ?

Not me getting excited you were counter claiming the baron, hoping it will reduce his power when he does attack you, having less provinces. :P Wonder if later down the line, if you make a town in the adjacent region right by the stream too, if the two towns could look like a large single one of sorts. Also, still hoping you will eventually do like, a 'huge' city, say in the central area, supplied by the adjacent ones or something too.

Just looked at your mod, I understand it's not for pre-release, I'm currently playing pre-release and for this version this mod will only make life more difficult, not balanced, for balance there should be something to solve the problem of producing clothes from dyes, because when you build a big city there are not enough berries for anything, and buying them is too expensive even with the discount skill, I also don’t see the point of improving the army if you already added 4 towers, the army is already stronger than the bots in manor lords, that was my point

Clearly you can have more than one thing going on - an area of farming, an area of mining etc. and it makes sense to house the workers and their needs close to where they're going to be working. Unless you intend to completely urbanise a region with one massive city, one main village with satellite hamlets seems quite natural.
