in my state its also illegal to search your property or person without the police and only if they suspect you of having guns, drugs, or alcohol. they cannot search you for any other reason. If they want to see if you stole they check the cameras.

Story 1: I'm not sure where the OP is here, but i'm pretty sure that searching her bag like this isn't legal. They arent police or security. As for the OP's malicious compliance here, it was nothing short of awesome. All the stuff that someone like the boss lady doesn't want to see is put in there. Too bad the old lady didn't have a panic attack.. would've been well worth it and deserved. Hopefully they mellow out on this bag checking and look at security cams or something.. and hopefully the OP leaves this crappy job. Story 2: i dont know why Karen's like this are allowed to be near children, much less being allowed to be around them in public. Always remember, the employees have 'right to refuse service' and should enforce it more often. I think it's more likely that one of the kids put the ice cream in and she didn't notice. Kids pull things like that all the time. Story 3: Yeah it really sounds like the bf is just being a dick here. Doctors are always going to make more money then a Teacher. If he's that bitter, the OP should re-consider the relationship here.... sounds like he's got sour grapes and his attitude is only going to get worse. Story 4: The OP's boss is a complete power-tripping idiot. Why mess with a set-up like that? Some people just get off on making life difficult for everyone. You really have to wonder how people like that get into positions of power like that, and why they are allowed to be around children. I always hated the bathroom rules they had in schools. If you have to go to the bathroom, go to the bathroom.... don't need permission. Its just stupid.

Story 3: The boyfriend is feeling very self-conscious. I think he feels that he is falling short in his part of the relationship now that he is making significantly less than his girlfriend. He feels that each gift from her which he knows he has nop way of matching is a reminder of what he feels to be his inadequacy. He does not resent his girlfriend. He resents his financial circumstances. I think he fears losing his girlfriend to someone else who may bemore financially equal to her, and if he is not careful, he may push her away and cause her to leave him. If this happens, I doubt that she will settle for someone who is not financially her equal, for fear that it may happen again. If she truly has no trouble with him making less money than she does, they need to bot sit down and have the conversation that just because her income has changed it doesn't mean that their relationship has to. In fact, it just means they can finally do the things they've only talked about doing before. She says that gift giving is just one of the things about her. But have they had that conversation? Or does she just assume that he should be able to figure that out? Assuming things is the worst thing that can be done in a relationship. Just like womon need to be told they are beautiful and loved by their partner, men need to be reassured about things as well. And society has engrained the idea of financial provision into men for generations. He may need reassurances that she is not expecting him to just up his financial gain just because she is now a Doctor and earnin more. Should he make a career move to increase his income? Maybe. If he really feels that establishing financial equality between them is all that important, then it would be on him to make some changes. But is being a teacher is the career he wants, and being a Doctor is the career she wants, then I agree with her that they both knew that she would end up making more than him eventually. The big difference is that Eventually and Now are often separated by a seemingly wide gulf. Now that it is reality, he needs to feel comfortable that it doesn't change her view of him, because to me, it seems that he is feeling unworthy. "gotta show off that Doctor money" is what tipped me off on this eeling. He cannot appreciate the gift knowing that he cannot repay it on an equal level. If she truly loves him and can see herself spending the rest of her life with him, then she needs to very lovingly reassure him of that, and that the money hasn't changed that. She should avoid words like "I" and "You" as much as possible and stick to "We" and "Us." If she's already had this conversation, and he insists on keeping up this attitude, then I think she needs to leave him. Because if she stays and he keeps it up, there will only be a growing spirit of resentment. And THAT would not be fair in the slightest.

@@viviennemorgan7217 They need to talk to each other. But if he's feeling insecure because of the income disparity, he's not going to admit it up front. She already knows that the disparity is causing his behavior, so she doesn't need to hear it from him. But he needs to hear it from her in the least judgmental and most loving way possible that it doesn't matter. You're taking the "It's the guy's fault" position. "He needs to talk. He needs to admit that he's wrong." He's not wrong. He's feeling inadequate. I'm a guy. I'm speaking from the position of how I would feel if my girlfriend were to be making a lot more money than me. I have gone all my life being told that the guy has to be the breadwinner. He's got tobe the one carrying the relationship. He's got to be the one making the way to do things. But in this day and age the traditional shared household modeldoesn't apply. Such is the case in this story. But that would not stop me from feeling like a failure if I were in this situation. Unless he's really just a jerk, if she goes to him, not using the words "I" or "You" and sticks to "We" and "Us", and makes it clear that it has no bearing on the relationship, it will give him that peace of mind he needs to just accept the status quo and they can go forward together. He didn't start acting like this until the money situation changedf, and when she uses her money to do something nice so that both of them can have a good time, it triggers him. Because he feels that HE ought to be the one doing it. Trust me. It's not her he resents. It's the circumstance, which does not reconcile with what he was likely brought up believing it needs to be. Now if they talk, and she assures him, and is careful to make it about them together, not her or him, he will feel better about himself and should come around. He needs to hear the reassurance. Like I said, women complain all the time if their man doesn't compliment them or say things that make them feel loved. Even if he truly does love her and finds her beautiful, he still needs to say it. Guys need reassurances too. We're not emotionless rocks. We don't cry but we do get an attitude. Maybe this guy is just a jerk, but based on what the OP is describing, I'm getting the sense that its an insecurity issue on his part that he needs her help to get past. I hope I am right and together they can fix things before they really do fall apart.

This Director, who didn't even have the credentials to be one, would yell at me or fuss with me about everything. She was so toxic that I had to leave because she was making me sick. I would get in trouble for checking the time on my phone so I could follow the schedule she gave me because my class didn't have a clock. I was told to go buy a clock, a fan, and and extension cord for the sink (it had a pump system and needed to be filled with water and the tank drained daily) for my class. Yes, these people can be a bit much and have no actual business running anything.

Story 1: An alternative to OP's revenge is just reporting the boutique to the relevant state or local employment authorities for breaking multiple employment codes. I am making the dangerous assumption that O/P is from the U.S. (or other developed nation with reasonable employment laws). I'm not an attorney so instead of giving unsolicited legal advise, I'll make the hypothetical statement that if I were in O/Ps place, I would take time to brush up on local employment rights. No employee should be subject to any unwarranted searches (with some notable exceptions, like those made for employees of the government and government contractors with access to sensitive information), and O/P's reasonable expectation of privacy is being thoroughly violated. While I think the searches are shameful and may be illegal, I think the bigger issue is the fact the owners are transferring ultimate burden of loss prevention directly to their employees. The owner does this by making employees stay onsite after clocking out until owner has time to check their personal property. The owner or management is responsible for loss prevention in their store(s) and there are plenty of loss prevention techniques, which don't violate employees personal privacies, that should be implemented. This issue is that good loss prevention measures will probably be expensive, and some owners are willing to break the law to avoid the additional costs. I believe it's absolutely immoral and I'm pretty sure it's also illegal to transfer the loss prevention burdens to any employee, and if I were in O/P's situation, then I might feel ethic-bound to report the situation to the employment authority to make sure it doesn't happen to any one else. (Quick note -- it sounds like O/P needs this job in order to make ends meet in the city, so I concede there's pressure on her not to do anything to lose her job, and I'm not trying to pass any judgement on her for any reason. I think she made the best out of a crummy situation). Story 3: I have a big issue with the narrator's opinion; specifically with his problematic diction. I'm sure OP's boyfriend ("OPB") constantly hears people telling him that he's "just a teacher" all the time. I'm guessing the constant barrage of outside feedback insisting OPB is inferior due to his low earning potential will lead to mental & emotional distress. So even if the narrator acknowledges that teachers are underpaid, I don't think it cancels out the harm done by delegitimizing OPB's contributions to his specific relationship or to society in general.
