Kombi Life The Multiple bus at the end is like the ultimate tour bus for a small band. Wonderful.

SIr, my biggest regret in 1984 my 67 split window van list oil pressure and locked up in valley stream New York. I gave it to the Nassau county police department he tried to push start me with a dodge diplomat after I put oil back in but she was locked up. Broke my heart. It was a camper with the small square camper top. And full camper set up. I'm 54 now . It's my dream to have one again.

I had a split window since I was 15, a guy I knew owed me $90 buck's. So he gave me the bus. I drove it here and there and partially restored it over the years. I finally sold it because every time we took it on vacation, it'd breakdown. I was 41 when I sold it, and with that money I purchased 250 acres in the Rockies in western Colorado and built an off grid cabin. Pretty good return on a ninety dollar investment

It's quite an inspiring story isn't it. To dedicate your life to something you are passionate about and become successful by doing it is pretty much "The Dream" for a lot of people (or at least it should be)

I love the Skinners! An awesome couple restoring recent history. I grew up outside of Vancouver Canada. My parents immigrated from Germany. Seems they met most of the others that did too. One of those couples drove only VW's. They had beetles and a kewl orange bus. I loved riding with them as a little girl.

I drove past this place this past summer, on my way to where I grew up in Arnold. Now that I know about Robert and what he does I will definitely pass on his info when I get a chance. Very nice to see. Wish I had the time this past summer to stop and look.

I take my hat off.... True VW bus spirit! Really looking forward to see all the interesting vw people you will meet!

Robert is a fun guy to hang out with. We have had some good times. I have known him for some years now. His enthusiasm for the VW Bus is infectious. I am fortunate to own a 1964 Riviera Camper Bus, for close to thirty years now. They are a special vehicle for sure.

I graduated from Ridgemont High, the year before Cameron Crowe enrolled as an undercover student. Cameron graduated from University High in San Diego the same year I graduated from Clairemont High, also in San Diego. Thanks for posting this video.

I bought my first bus in 92,a 67 day camper for 400 bucks,that had caught fire in Mexico.Replaced a few items in the engine bay and drove it till it threw a rod,rebuilt a 1600 dp and drove it to Washington from Cali.That was the first of 30 plus VWs I owned over the years,but sadly I dont own any anymore.

In 1971 I came home from Japan to get discharged from the service. A friend in Las Vegas introduced me to some friends with a 65 VW stepthru. They also had a GMC panel delivery but the visibility out scared me shitless. I drive it to Houston where my Dad was living and on to Ruston Louisiana and a year at LA Tech(71-72). If I had known how to take care of a car back then I’d still have it. It was white, step thru without the first back seat. All my worldly possessions fit in a seabag so living in a bus was pretty easy.

I somehow missed this one. Skinner is the bus guy! I'm enjoying Mic Bergsma's bus build with Skinner. I miss seeing Leah. 😔

Owning a VW Kombi is now officially a life goal for me. Thanks Kombi Life!!

Ive been trying to find my dream bus since I was 14 and make it my daily but definitely don’t have the time nor 9k for a rusted out roller. I hope to find a running/driving daily soon at a reasonable price but I gotta go Texas Cali or Florida to find one. Great video thank you. We all have a dream car and a bus is mine!! Thanks for another great video. I really enjoyed it. So, now, my dream is to go to Vacaville, CA, and buy a Skinner Classics split-screen bus. So meany memories here of my old ‘72 VW Bus, and the even older one that was loaned to me for a few weeks while my VW Bug was being worked on. I’ve had about five different VW Bugs, one VW Golf, and the ‘72 Bus. The Bus was by far my favorite. These things are a dream to drive, and to hang out in. Happy Trails

Mr. & Mrs. Skinner are awesome people! (I'm the same age as Robert & most of those buses!) _While listening, you & Leah talked about how you were learning the correct ways to do proper bodywork, I had a vision!_ After your travels are finished, you and Leah could do the same as the Skinners & set-up your own shop! *Jamin Jade's Restoration & Travel Planners.* (or something of that nature) (You both have gained so much knowledge about the VW Bus & Traveling over the years, it would be of great service to share with others.) (And make a buck or two while doing the consulting and or restoration) ~ I better get to bed, I've got nothing to do tomorrow, the next day or the day after that. I lost my job 2 months before the World went into 'Shut-down' mode and, it's been nearly impossible to get back on track *_Truth, Peace, Freedom & L♥ve2ALL™_* *James*

Well you scoped it out long enough! I bought a 76 bus from a Boy Scout family. It was in my neighborhood, I actually remember us going on a camping trip with it, passenger bus they bought in Germany. VW's purchase tour package included shipping to the United States, it was blue on the bottom and white top.

I can't believe I didn't notice before, but I love the newly painted Boomerang on the logo.

Because T4's/5's/6's don't cost 3 or 4 years salary and they're reliable. As much as I love a splitty, I'd rather not spend most of my precious time off, stuck on the side of a road.

@@van-gabondramblinrose6398 I sort of get where you come from. In the UK an all singing all dancing t6 can cost easily over £100,000. Split vans can be made reliable if you are prepared to add modern technology and can cost less than said T6. Yes your safe which is a major factor in a T5 or T6 but the majority of them look the same with just different coloured seats and cabinets and are just another boring van. Each to their own and respect your comments but I love old vans and it makes people smile when they see it and ask questions. :-)

@@stephenmorgan5100 I dunno, I have a T4 which I've converted myself and still lots more work to do to get it where I want, but I love it and so far it's cost me around £10 grand...much less than the £40-60 grand it would cost for a splitty. I love the shape and the look of my T4 and it's been totally reliable and economical to run, but mostly I love the adventures it gives me and that's what it's all really about, no matter which type you go for. My view is, we're all VW people and I have no room for any elitism. I love it when I'm on the road and I get a wave from another van, whatever it is. :-)

Yes, I think you are both nuts. But, in the most lovable way one could imagine. Good nuts. I suppose after witnessing the trials and tribulations of the great journey north (the 10 engine rebuilds, etc) it just seems like maybe a more reliable type of vehicle would be, er well, practical. Its enough to focus on a drive around the world without constantly working on yr vehicle. Having said all of that, I understand that the VW experience is a mystical and almost religious bond between man, woman and constantly breaking down vehicle. And somehow, the satisfaction of getting yourself down the road, one kilometer at a time, blood, sweat, tears, oil and water mixed, all of it, somehow becomes a metaphor for a life lived well. Kudos! Cant wait to watch the series and wish you both the very best!

I love old split windows. I've owned two 21 windows. One was a 67 rust bucket. The other was a 65 in very good condition only missing the center bench.

That 4 buses in 1 is a belter for travelling around the world. Certainly enough space in it. For good bed and kitchen work space. Only down side would be it would be a heavyweight DRINKER ON FUEL ⛽️, solar power is the future. HAPPY TRAVELS TROOPS. (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿SCO/ GLASGOW)

I believe that being satisfied and happy with my own personal levels of Insanity is MORE Important than worrying about somebody's feelings being hurt by the Facts of my life. Here in Belgium, i saw a junkyard with more that twenty VW T3 models. All of them were in a bad state and they had moss growing over them.

I can't believe how expensive these VWB are!! I guess your buying the nostalgia that comes with how rare they are. I didn't realize how big the cult following was though.

I would not put a rag top on that big bus. I'd reinforce the roof and have a spot to hang out on top. Like, imagine if you took it to a race, outdoor concert, parade, or any event where you just want to get above the crowd for a better view. Or, if you're just parked in the middle of nowhere with great scenery and you just want to sit up there and enjoy your coffee. It's hard to stand on a rag top. To each his own, though. I'd like to see it when it's done.
