I envy you for your ability to restore your bus yourself. I have an old Beetle but unfortunately I have to get it done up by someone else. Watching these videos is only making me more anxious for the day my Beetle is finally due for it's restoration as there's a queue and I'll have to wait at least another year. Thankfully though I can drive and enjoy it in the meanwhile but I'll probably shed a tear or two when it's finally done. Can't get enough of these restauration videos, keep up the good work

I used panel bond on my restoration and I think it worked fine. Can't use it everywhere, and in places I could, I used steel rivets that I ground the heads off after it cured. I also put masking tape on the clamp surface to make sure it didn't accidently adhere to the part.

Great content. i love those videos where people try to preserve old cars, but my question is Why not welding, or do you weld in a later stadium. Spotwelding is so much stronger then only panelbond. The front of your car should be structial very strong in case of an Hit with another car or what else. I alwas say...savtye first.Beautifull VW bus. You can have years and years of fun and joy with it. Greetings from the Netherlands.

They key is panel bond and riveted. Panel bond alone does not have the structural integrity. I think you should have welded or riveted the corners and possibly a few spot welds along with the pedal bond. IMO. Volkswagen buses are not exactly known for their safety So the more structural integrity, the better.😂

You're right, a lot of the welding (bad welding I might add) is completely unnecessary and it also doesn't prevent rust from occurring at the spot weld points again in the future. Not only is the panel bonding adhesive extremely strong it also acts as a sealant between the parts, preventing future moisture infiltration and resulting rust issues all over again. The engineers used what was available at the time, if they had panel bonding adhesives they surely would have used them.

@@Vangabonders It's structural in that it is what is between you and the front bumper of the dude in the F150 in your lane because he is texting. I get that it isn't structural in the sense that it isn't the subframe and the load of the vehicle (probably) isn't reduced. I get that, as it is a box with a subframe rather than a body on frame, arguably the entire box is "structural" and the same is true for rockers using that logic.

Use COOPERS STRIPPER from NZ - the so-called aircraft stripper is junk compared to it. COOPERS deliver worldwide. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(

You're obviously misinformed about adhesives, they break down over time.Nice little fender bender, the bond will break off immediately ,and a Hyundai Elantra will gut one like a fish, it's why planes are not only glued together, but also riveted and bolted with flush threaded fasteners for insurance. My guess is, the bus is just a prop to make a video for KZread cash, being lazy by not welding is no big deal.

If you watch the second part of this video you will see that it is also welded on. This is not a prop it’s a restoration that I plan on using. Thanks for your concern

I started a new job after a few weeks I was putting a weld on front wing on a car I went to the stores to get the weld through spot weld sealer but there was none left I said just give me a tube of Sikaflex , I was just putting a bead on the edge when the boss walked past he started shouting at me for ruining the job , luckily a lad who had been there a long time came across told him you can spotweld through Sikaflex the boss just walked away .
