This is a medley of old Korean hit. All the dorky choreo is from the original song. They kept it. 😊

I still cant get over this performanve no matter how much i watcheed this. They r so... (dont have words to describe) *sigh. Im tired of thinking what is the best word to describe how amazingly beautiful their vocal,how impactful their stage presence,how how how?! How human can be this perfect?

where to even begin with this? i still can't believe that they did a solid 11 minute long performance here with no breaks or anything. that takes some stamina, esp considering it was in the middle of their concert... which are known for going way over the standard concert durations. this was one of their first concerts, either moosical or moosical curtain call (and those concert names are so cute). moosical was their first concert, two years after debut. the fastest for a 3rd gen kpop group to have a solo concert. moosical curtain call was the follow up the next year and broke the 3 hour mark for duration. their more recent concerts, the four seasons concerts, all pushed 4+ hours and the finale of the four season f/w series actually broke the 5 hour mark... these women just don't know when to stop, they'll give their all no matter what another female rapper once explained that it's virtually impossible to mimic byul's raps when covering mamamoo songs. partially because she constantly changes her flow and approach up to suit the song rather than just wedging the rap in like is usually done (most songwriters just leave a gap in their songs for the rappers to fill however they like and many that write raps, whether rappers or those that just write for them, don't seem to really try to match the song so the raps can sound way out of place). byul's had years of experience trying to match to songs, primarily since a lot of the songs they do are very much not styles that a rap should fit into, yet her flows manage to fit in...not exactly seamlessly, since they usually are meant to stand out, but they always add to the song's flow instead of taking away from it. you even noticed this part yourself, but she's frequently used as a narrator, to set up or change the emotions of the song, to hype things up or calm things down as needed immortal songs 2 is a music competition show where 6-7 guests are invited weekly to compete over a theme. said themes are 'immortal' songs of various sorts, often older songs that have some sort of meaning to koreans. frequently the themes revolve around an individual singer, songwriter or composer and, if the individual is still alive, they're frequently sitting center in the audience to watch the performances and discuss them with one of the show's hosts. typically these are korean artists though they've had two american immortal artists: michael jackson and michael bolton (bolton was actually there for the show as he was touring in korea at the time. and was blown away by all the covers of his songs). sometimes the themes aren't an artist, though. they'll be things like spring or love or longing and the performers pick beloved songs that focus on that theme the artists that are invited to the show are typically considered among the best of their field so even being invited is a huge honor. you'll see rock singers go up against balladeers vs traditional folk singers vs musical theatre actors and so much more. huge variety of artists are invited, the only requirement is being considered among the best vocalists in your musical genre and many of these artists have 10+ years of experience in the industry idol groups are actually a relative rarity on the show. idol artists show up pretty frequently but they're generally soloists or the main vocalists of a group going on their own, not the group as a whole. most idol groups that are invited only go once or twice, very few ever win, just because of the extremely tough competition they face. mamamoo has been on the show 14 time so far, by far the most of any idol group. and they've won 3 times, which is also the record among idol groups. and they're the only idol group to have been invited to a 'best of the best' episode, which pits previous winners from the season against each other. even their first appearance on the show, just six months after they debuted, had senior artists they were facing scared to go up against them. and these two artists each had 10-20 years of stage experience is2 helped mamamoo build a reputation for themselves as 'true singers' and 'artists' aside from the reputation they were getting as kpop artists. much of korea kind of holds a stigma against kpop artists, not considering them actual singers. all of mamamoo's appearances and wins on this show both helped differentiate them from kpop norms and also revealed to the general public that yes, kpop artists can indeed sing

Thank you for this really well written and informative piece. I’m an American and I haven’t been able to find any well documented piece on what the Immortal Songs competition and Mamamoo relationship has been until now. I’ve watched all of their performances. The one things I would like to see is the entire show start to finish to see how it’s presented, how the artists are chosen, how the votes are given and the reactions of the winners. Also, one things I’ve noticed watching many of Mamamoo live performances is that they are cut off so abruptly that we barely or sometimes never get that emotional release at the end to feel the thunderous applause from the audience.

@@JLALALALA oh wow, that message is a blast from the past Immortal songs is actually how i was introduced to mamamoo and many other amazing singers. I'm also american, but my city airs kbs world, which plays a lot of kbs shows with subtitles about two weeks after they originally air in south korea and i started watching is2 in... 2016, i think? Kinda foggy on that One of the kbs youtube channels ( i think kbs 2?) actually has many, if not all, of the older is2 episodes on it, subtitles included. I heartily recommend checking the full episodes out if you have time (they're around an hour and a half long each, typical for many korean shows) just to see what kind of artists they've been up against and the often funny backstage banter

After I sent my message I looked at the dates and saw they were from 2 years ago and I kind of laughed and thought it would go into the black hole of messages. 😂 I have searched and searched KBS and cannot find anything longer than clips of just their songs. Any chance you can put a link to one of their episodes? If I can get one full episode link then I’ll be able to work my way through finding the rest.

Some told you about the immortal songs part. Will focus on the stage it of this, because I find it just as interesting. 1. They wore suits. They looked fantastic in them. The only thing I did not like was the black for hwasa makes it hard to see her at the start. There was nothing flashy about it, it was all about their vocals (especially the first half). They wore high heels and were dancing in them. I am not female, and do not wear heels, but apparently that is a big thing. If you look at their dancing, it is often in heels. In queendom performances, you will see solar slip in good luck, and again in destiny. They undid their jackets as the song went on at different times. I think that was more because they were hot, but they did have to do it before one part. Hwasa was the only one to survive until that point. 2. How they stood at the start is the order you see them in most videos.. from left to right, moonbyul,solar,wheein,hwasa. They have used this order since the start, and feel the most comfortable like this. 3. Live band, how fantastic were they? You don’t get to see them much, just hidden in the background shots occasionally. 4. Stage looked awesome, big M framing the main stage. 5. The light sticks. Probably the first time you have seen these. I like that they are all synced to flash, and change colors at the same time. Their shape is the shape of a radish. Moo=radish. Fans are also called moomoos. 6. This was 11 minutes long, and they sounded great.. just remember, this was probably in the middle of a 4-5 hour concert. They have lots of stamina :) 7. Their vocals.. they are highly trained vocalists.. I have watched some other reactors talk about the skill they have in different styles of singing, different ways of producing sounds, and how difficult some of it is. Eg. the harmonies, and getting the vibrato in sync with a balanced sound is not some thing that magically happens. Looking forward to more from you :)

Mamamoo MV that shouldn't be missed: - Decalcomanie (sexy concept and one of my fav song till now) - Mr Ambigous (their debut song, it's a must to watch) - Piano Man (broadway-esque jazz style) - 1cm / Taller Than You (dissing song to each other lol) - Aze Gag (better watch with sub, bcs it's all about dad jokes) - Um OH Ah Yeah (crossdressing MV) - You're The Best (retro feel) - Gleam (actually it's a CF song) - Girl Crush (another CF song) - Yes I Am (bright and colorful MV) - I Love Too (you might cry watching this) and their legend song Sleep in The Car (but there is no MV). ❤️

Great reaction! I always tell ppl, the BEST, first live stage to see of Mamamoo is this very video! It's truly the best one. They are so unbelievably talented. Now, you are ready to see the actual Immortal Songs performances. They were on the show 15 times, but I only have links to the first 13 atm. Also I am going to add a link to Gloomy Coincidence, a performance they did on Sugarman, and Holy Hell, it's one of the best! It's so good, the original singers of the song are in the audience and it was so amazing, one of them started crying. Definitely worth watching too!
