Actually the rapper is a trained vocalist with an academic degree she was accepted as a vocalist .Also , she knew nothing about rap and rapping , but they changed her position in the last minute !! Her vocal coach was shocked ; that she debut as a rapper because her vocal abilities would make her a lead or main vocalist !! What is so impressive about her rapping that she learnt how to rap in a very short time because mostly kpop rappers spend years learning how to rap. I think she spent only months since mamamoo whole training time was one year and a half ! I respect her so much because she is so creative with her songs she always writes her raps she writes and produces her solos as well as for her group . When she was a rookie she co-wrote a song with her producer for other Korean male artist ! She is the highest credited female artist of her generation also she is no3 of the most highest credited female artist of all times . She has credits in Japan as well since she wrote Japanese songs too becoming the first Korean artist of all times to have credits in Japan !!

Crazy thing about Moon is just how versatile she is a rapper. She's not the most savage rapper (personally, Cheetah and G-idle Sooyeon sorta beat her in that regard ...). But Moon wins hands down on how she ensure her rap fits whatever genre the song is. Smooth bossa nova? She got it. RnB? No problem. Soft rap? Cool. Growls? Awesome. And this what set her apart. Personally, I havent found any female rapper from idol group with this kind of agility.

Mamamoo is actually considered as artists rather than idols. They write their own songs, create their own choreography, create their concepts, participate so much in their song and album production, and have immense natural talent. A lot of korean artists and even legends appreciate and recognize them and have wanted to work with them. You'll also definitely enjoy their whole discography. They dont stick with one genre and they always pull everything off. Some even say their genre is just MAMAMOO. I'm so happy you found them and is now invested in them. You'll definitely enjoy the whole journey! Cant wait for the next reactions 💕

And to think that Solar was turned down from 40 auditions and she told herself to try one more time and if she didn't succeed she would stop trying... she ended up being accepted into RBW. All the songs they performed here are from other artists, there's a show called "Immortal Songs" in which artists go and cover really famous songs and they compete to find a winner, Mamamoo went there many many times and won a few of them (it's not very common for idol groups to go), so this is just a medley of some of the songs they performed in the show. To hear Moonbyul sing (she's incredible) check out her cover of "Trying to Say Goodbye".

Sir Austin Everyone knows Solar is a powerful singer since day 1. Most of the companies didn’t take Solar because she was ‘too old’ to become a trainee that time. You know the kpop world. Almost of the trainees took years before debuting idols. In Solar situation, she debuted when she 24/25 and that’s considered too late for idol. But hey. Talent is talent. ☕️

@@SirAustin what's sad is the reason she got rejected was most probably because she auditioned at 20 years old which is pretty late for korean industry standards. Same goes with Hwasa who got rejected multiple times for being "ugly and fat". But then RBW said "Nah, ya'll can perform, ya'll coming with us"

i wouldnt fret too much over adding Mamamoo to your repertoire on the channel. lots of InSomnia are also Moomoos, we are friends that get along splendidly. talent recognizes talent.

One of the best things about Mamamoo are definitely their amazing harmonies. It helps that the members are so close. Wheein and Hwasa have actually been singing together for around 12 years(!). They met in middle school and have been best friends ever since

@@SirAustin Wheein and Solar have appeared to Duet Song Festival(Wheein has appeared more times than Solar did). it's a show where a mainstream singer choose a non-singer partner to make a duet song. i highly recommend to check it out. also, all 4 members have appeared to King of Masked Singer. it's a show where singers that sing hide their face and use nicknames so that the judges don't see and know who they are. Mamamoo nicknames are Swan, Aerobics Girl, Like A Half Moon, and Single-hearted sunflower. i won't say which is which so that you can guess from the voice.

Mamamoo are the queens of harmonizing! There are whole compilations on youtube. They listen to each other so well while singing.

Mamamoo are an amazing girl group but they all also have a solo career while still being active in a group which is very rare. If you want to hear Moonbyul singing I really recommend her song “Absence” also would love to see your reactions to their performances of “I miss you” and “decalcomanie” on Queendom (it was a competition and they Won!)

"Immortal Songs 2" is a show where idols and singers from other fields come to sing covers from the iconic artist of Korean Music (but their are episodes for Western artists as well like Whitney Houston or Michael Bolton). They arrange the songs to their taste but remain faithful to the original. So this medley is a bunch of covers re-arranged by MAMAMOO and the dancing is taken from the original performances (most of which are from back in the day). This was a special performance they did during their exclusive concert "4 SEASONS F/W" in 2019 in Daegu. I believe they included it bc their performances on the show are so popular (my personal opinion, based on nothing but my own observations). MAMAMOO often compete on the show, I totally recommend to watch their appearances on it - they are amazing singers and performers. Dreamcatcher were guests on "Immortal Songs 2" twice. Both of their performances are very good - totally recommend. Another singer who performed on "IS2" is Ailee, solo singer who has amazing vocal - probably the most iconic performance by her is that of Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" - chills - or Yoon Bok Hee's "Everyone". //I edited the misleading part, I really should check my facts before I write a comment, I apologize to everyone who was confused.

They are a VERY popular group. Their concerts get sold out within minutes and they were the 2nd most requested act to perform at festivals after Psy. Domestically they are already a household name and most of their music reached no.1 on the charts in South Korea since 2016 with You're the Best. They are also very well respected in South Korea and have earned the title "BelisMoo" Belive and Listen to Mamamoo whatever they release is always top notch. Internationally they started getting bigger since 2017/18 and have become really big in kpop internationally especially with HIP (but obviously not Blackpink and BTS level international popularity) but very good. Hwasa herself topped no.1 US itunes album chart with Maria and is the first Korean female soloist to do. They are just underrated for HOW talented they are but they are very popular. A good video would be DKDKTVs video asking the public about Mamamoo and you'll get an insight into how revered they are. But they keep getting bigger and they are on the 6th year as a group.

their concerts get sold out fast cause they don't have 50,000+ audience venue/stadium. their venues/stadiums are around 10,000 audience and some times it's less. Mamamoo are big in Korea so obviously their tickets will sold out fast. Mamamoo are not really big internationally. the vast majority of their songs don't even hit 100 million views. dance practice of Blackpink gets more views than Hip. Hwasa did good in solo, but not the others. most songs of Wheein solo have less than 5 million views on youtube and some don't even hit 1-2 million. Jennie of Blackpink solo has around 800 million views. Mamamoo are not underrated. they have less international fans cause they don't do live shows, etc in the West. aside the live shows, appearance in late night shows, etc that Blackpink do, in 2019 they appeared to Coachella. do you know how big is this? Coachella has a 250,000 attendance in 3-days. type "Blackpink Coachella" on google and look how many articles are written in major social media and what they say. Blackpink is the 1st kpop group that appeared in Coachella so they got a massive amount of fans. and this is just Coachella. calculate the fans they got from appearing in US late night shows, etc. Mamamoo youtube channel has 6.2 million subscribers vs 67.6 million that Blackpink has. over 10 times more. and this is only youtube. imagine if we calculate other platforms. as you can see Mamamoo have less fans, so less fans = less views, less notice, etc. they're not underrated. they have less fans. you even said it yourself "A good video would be DKDKTVs video asking the public about Mamamoo and you'll get an insight into how revered they are" if they were underrated this wouldn't happen.

Describing Mamamoo is simple. Vocal Queens. They aren't Idols, they are performers, real musicians. They write and compose most of their own songs. They are not so known outside Korea, because their company is just an average company, so promoting them outside Korea costs way to much for the company. But in Korea they are a big name.

I guess higher breather falsetto is actually Wheein's speciality she is has the best falsetto head voice i have ever heard in my life !! Still stand by my advice: you must watch "Passion flower" & "Deliliah" Immortals. XD Also, there is a girl group from the same company. The group has not debuted yet, but they have released teaser trailers for each of the members and the group itself, and the girls sound just as impressive as their "older sisters". Maybe if you'll have time, you could check them out too.

Forgot to say, the group I've mentioned in the original comment is called Purple Kiss. Again, they haven't debuted yet, but even their trailers made me fall in love with them. RBW, the company behind MAMAMOO and Purple Kiss, sure knows how to train talents :)

Thanks for mentioning the new group. I looked at the teaser and, frankly, got more of a Dreamcatcher than Mamamoo vibe, young and trying to act mature and about to burst out in giggles, but that may very well change once the debut song itself comes out. Definitely intriguing either way. And Rainbow Bridge does seem to prefer working outside the box in terms of its approach to acts.

Wheein and hwasa are the ones that sometimes do breathy high notes and solar, wheein and hwasa do intense high notes and hwasa and moonbyul do rapping and they are known for their acepella and harmonies

Mamamoo kinda had the opposite thing happen to them that DC did. DC is well known to international fans but not as popular in Korea but are starting to get more notice there. Mamamoo is hugely popular in Korea but weren't marketed internationally as much but have been getting a lot more international love especially since they won Queendom

For a whistle note, check out Woo Hoo. It's a song they did for a commercial, but when it comes to mamamoo, even their commercial songs are top notch

It doesn't really compare with the original Immortal Songs appearances, where they were under more pressure because they were in a competition. The Immortal Songs performances were stellar, and you should watch them to see how they respond to the stress. This video has a more relaxed vibe, more of a victory lap.

Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher reactions today, I feel blessed. Yes, Mamamoo is very popular, ot as much as BP or Twice of course but they're still very popular. They're definitely one of the most popular gg. They all have at one point participated in King of Masked Singer too. In DC, Siyeon is the only one who went there. That growl comment made me think of Bobby from iKON, he's a rapper, but he can sing quite well, and it's always very unique because he does growl a lot. It doesn't sound ridiculous though, he too, appeared in Masked Singer.

Mamamoo are 4 fantasic and skilled singers (yes even Moonbyul the rapper) who drop into harmonies at the drop of a hat. There is no other K Pop group like them. They started on the immortal Songs TV show where they were and still are loved. I'm proud to say that I have followed them from their beginning, up to the current date. I'm a UK Moomoo and I welcome you to our ranks Austin.

The four ladies are: Solar (Kim Yong Sun, leader & vocal) Moonbyul (Moon Byul Yi, rap & perfomance/dance) Wheein (Jung Whee In, vocal & performance/dance) Hwasa (Ahn Hye Jin, maknae, vocal & rap) Those are their official positions, but as with any good group, they all do it all... 😜 Some of their concerts have fan uploads on KZread if you want to see what they're really like live. Look up their Curtain Call concert... Solar is pronounced in the normal English way (e.g solar day). Moonbyul is also known as Moonstar. You are correct that they are not always called "idols" the same way most kpop artists are as they are so unique. And yes, you certainly should see them live some day. :) You are also correct that Moonbyul was originally trained as a singer (she has a ton of songwriting credits too). I do have one question: what type of headphones do you use? I'm sure they are much better and you can hear more detail than the garbage headsets most of us use. :)

They are just studio headphones plugged into an audio interface. It does allow you to hear a bit more clarity.

All of those songs were reinterpretations if very famous, older Korean songs! (Also, the dancing was kept from the original choreography! Mamamoo dances too, perhaps not as impressive as other groups, but they can.) but you’re right in that Mamamoo is Mamamoo. Their discography is full of various genres. They’ll honestly try just about anything. Have fun listening to them!

It's gonna take a while for you to discover all the sides mamamoo has. Fun fact: Wheein is considered the backbone of the group bc of her stability and consistency all around with being able to blend with anyone's voice and genre smoothly -- it is why she is usually the one to record the demos/vocal guides for the others :)

Hwasa has the raspy vocals, Solar has the growls, Moonbyul is the rapper. these 3 have a gimmick of their own. the breathy vocals are the gimmick of Wheein, but when Hwasa also does it it's not unique, so Wheein goes unnoticed for not having a unique gimmick. he didn't say anything for Wheein cause she doesn't have a gimmick and he didn't notice her.

@@SapiaNt0mata I think I get what you're saying, but I can't exactly grasp the intended tone from the text. The unfortunate disadvantage for Wheein is that as the singer with arguably the best technique in the group/most versatility, she usually is the one that holds down the main part which let's the other members riff off it in their distinct vocal colors. Respectable in that she's the one consistently doing it, but also unfortunate bc most people mainly pick up the flourishes and riffs. I view her as a vocal chameleon -- over the group's entire discography, there are moments when Wheein's voice can sound just like one of the other members but the reverse doesn't happen as often imo.

I meant nothing ill-willed by saying I couldn't grasp your intended emphasis in this context -- whether what you were saying in your 1st reply was a negative thing directed toward Wheein herself (as in you're saying she is lacking something/at fault & that's why the reactor didn't point her out), toward the other members (your phrasing of "Wheein should be the only one to do this" implies that the others shouldn't be allowed to do similar parts so that she can stand out more), toward myself for my original comment, or toward the reactor for their lack of commentary on Wheein in this reaction. In a lot of typical context, the use of the word "gimmick" is negative. Hence why I wanted to clarify bc in this context I'd use the terms "notable feature" vs "gimmick" bc it has a more neutral descriptor connotation. Yes I've seen Austin's other reaction you pointed out and unfortunately yeah he does not touch on Wi's voice like he does with the other 3. But also, in several of his other reactions he has mentioned her after being asked by Moos to look further into them. As he got to know the group more in later reactions, he was able to more clearly point out each of the member's voices and the nuances about them. To circle back and spin your comment of "Wheein not having a gimmick" into a neutral/positive point, her lack of gimmick, so to speak, makes her so versatile and able to blend with all styles and genres. While that feature may not make her stand out immediately to reactors and overall makes her underappreciated, its a vital role in the group and in her collabs that she performs perfectly.

@@Nicoleicole not in the comment i made. my comment is straight to the point with no hidden context or tone: she doesn't have something that will make her stand out so she's the least to get noticed and is underrated and underappreciated. i said this "Wheein should be the only one to do this" cause considering she is the least to get noticed cause she is the only 1 that doesn't have anything to stand out and is underrated/underappreciated she should be the only one to do the breathy vocals to have something to make her stand out and get noticed like the others. if she wasn't underrated and underappreciated i wouldn't say this. some times you have to consider the circumstances. gimmick: "a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade". having rasp vocals that attracts attention is considered a gimmick and calling it gimmick is not bad. that's cause he read comments about Wheein being underrated, etc. if he didn't read these comments he'd continue to notice her the least. and as consequence she's underrated/underappreciated. Solar and Hwasa get noticed easier and the most and aren't being underrated/underappreciated.

This is on Immortal Songs! It's a show where artists cover older, iconic, not necessarily Korean songs! Dreamcatcher were also on the show twice, both covers are really good, and I'd love to see you react to them! They're both done fully live I believe, the show always is. I'm also really loving hearing you break down the technical aspects of the singing! Mamamoo are great technical singers, and it's really cool to hear you identify _why_ they're so good. Also, don't worry about your content! Honestly I just want you to have as good a time as we are, and watching you do a deep dive into each artist is just satisfying as watching you jump all over the place to get to everyone. Watching you fall in love with the artists is just as fun as your analysis.

Since you are a vocal coach and prefer more vocal than other role, I'm pretty sure that your channel would include a lot of Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher contents.. XD.. Cause the members of both of them are the officially Vocalist and actually can sing.... There are also Gfriend and Red velvet that I think also got more vocals, you can step to them anytime too. But lets finish this two first 😁

Now that i'm done with the Video. Mamamoo was the one Group that opened my ears to K-Pop, peeps have been trying to get me into K-Pop for like a decade but it was only when I watched their performance for "Decalcomanie" on Queendom, that just took me in like a storm then watched their Gogobebe Dance video on 1million XD. I started to open up to more songs then ventured out and listened to songs I've heard before but never got to appreciate lol. Then came Dreamcatcher too and their concept and content XD. But i'll keep it to Mamamoo. I was instantly attracted to Solar from the start, I just love the energy coming from her XD Hwasa has a unique voice, so Jazz like. Moonbyul is one of my favorite rappers, along with Dami and Soyeon, they're really entertaining XD Then Finally Wheein, the one you haven't got to learn the name for, her vocals are so smooth, i'd say more controlled than Solar, but Solar has gone through a lot to get where she's at XD I love how their vocal progressions gets so much better from 2014 to how it is now. Here's waiting for more reactions from you XD

OK. So I noticed you made a comment on the dancing. Yes, it is ridiculous and it is intended to be so. Immortal Songs is a competition where artists sing "old songs" that are still good to listen even in our day and age (hence the show is called Immortal Songs. Songs that dont die). This was a medley of some of the songs they performed in that show. So, the song they are singing are old songs. One of those old songs is You, In My Fading Memory where those dance steps were performed. TL;DR The dance moves are iconic to the song performed because it was the original choreography so it was like "paying homage" to the original artists.

I think you won't regret being a moomoo 😁 Nothing wrong with being InSomnia&Moomoo like me. They eat harmonies for breakfast lunch dinner. Moonbyul actually started out as vocalist, but became rapping much more. When you hear the harmonies, that includes her, especially the low voice. Oh Wheein is my bias here. With the rest being my bias wrecker.😉

MAMAMOO stan here! Yess you’re right, the only group that I stan is MAMAMOO because they set the bar sooo high for any girl group out there. In fact, their concert 4-5 hours long with these live vocals and performances is insane. New subscriber here btw.

Wheein and Hwasa have been best friends since Middle School, they decided to leave their town together to go to Seoul to try to become singers

I really want you to become a Moomoo hahahaha they are incredible artist and human beings. Their music is beyond great with different genres and great mesaages.

Mamamoo really understands each other voices so well because they always harmonies together since trainee years, in the beginning, they just playing around but then it started out being serious and they proved why they are the vocal queens of kpop industry.

I would suggest reacting to the 'ultimate introduction to mamamoo'. Gives a little look at their talents individually and as a group and their different range of music. A man with taste ♥ Mamamoo's vocals are crazy. I love them. And yes, the rapper (Moonbyul) can sing too. She have some solo songs. Listen to her solos, if you want to hear her singing voice more. The others have solo songs, too! :)

Let me tell you something. EVERY member of MAMAMOO can rap and sing. If you want to see Moonbyul’s vocals I definitely recommend her cover of "Trying to Say Goodbye" as well as "Absence".She made many fans cry the day she released that cover because from the start, she didn’t have any confidence in her voice. It’s truly a beautiful thing. If you’d like to hear more of Wheein I recommend "With My Tears" or her solo "Easy". I would love to give you more but I’m limiting myself to two songs each member to let you choose. Solar’s vocals are very powerful, and I recommend her solo song Spit It Out version on her own channel (Solarsido) where she sang it a key higher because she got excited, and Believer (Also a cover on her channel. You’ve already heard Hwasa but still check out her solos "In the Fall" and "Be Calm" to see the softer, calmer side of her voice. Mamamoo is a great group and their live performances leave you just saying that they are all great entertainers in the true sense of the word. In this performance you mentioned that Hwasa's voice was sounding tired later in the video and that was likely due to her recovering from a cold at the time. Somebody has already mentioned the video comparing their studio vs live which is a great video to react to. Others have already mentioned that Moonbyul (rapper) was originally trained as a singer (alto, vocal) but was told by he company that they had enough singers and she would have to do rapping to continue. There are many examples of Moonbyul singing available but here are some I would recommend: Snow, Absence, iljido, In My Room plus the covers I'm Sorry and I'm Trying To Say Godbye (서툰 이별을 하려해). I know many people will want you to react to Immortal Songs but I would advise against it the same as any Japanese release as you are very very likely to get a copy right strike against you and have the video taken down. Sorry for the mini novel.

I’ve never seen anyone react to Mamamoo and not be blown away lol I’d say if you’re going to get obsessed with a group, Mamamoo would be the one to go for!

I want to see their concert, too! Was lucky to see them in Kcon LA even for just 20 min. With solo sections, they tend to be 4 hours long. People have posted their entire Moosical Concert (which this is from, along with their earlier jazzy works) and then the more recent 4 seasons concert. You should check those out. Also, their questionable dancing (LOL) comes from the original choreo of that song. This medley comes from songs written or performed by Korea's industry legends. (And one day singers will sing to Mamamoo songs!)

I like Dreamcatcher. I'm not a fan fan but i know of them and like that they're different. But that's their theme. They were set with a concept by their label. Yet Mamamoo is not. They are more versatile. They do it all. But i still like that DC is different. You don't hear rock in kpop and so far i only heard 2 groups and they are Mamamoo and DC.

Dreamcatcher and mamamoo... Ohh i really hope they will sing together someday especially in rapper moonbyul and dami.

You'd be amazed when you watch each of those songs performed in "Immortal Songs". The show "Immortal Songs" is supposed to be for vocalists and bands to revive old songs in front of the seasoned performer who made those songs popular in South Korea. Idol groups don't usually participate because they score really low and get criticized for the technique they use in the show. From my knowledge, MAMAMOO is the only idol-group and girl-group to stay in that show for a long time, and have no bad criticism about their vocal technique and performance. They've also won twice in that show and wowed everyone. By norm, girl-groups or idol-groups aren't supposed to have refined vocal and performance; but they kicked ass in that show.

The thing about Mamamoo is that not only all 4 members can sing (yes, even Moonbyul), but they also have incredible stage presence, and they all know how to improvise & rally the audience if they want to. In Um Oh Ah Yeh, Moonbyul would change a lyric on stage every performance to amaze the crowd. That's something that none of the other groups would do. Oh, and they sing live 99% of the time. When they can't sing live, they usually would stop singing (and let the tape run) instead of doing lip sync.
