Making a Leather Skillet Handle Cover | No More Hot Handles

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode, I'm making a simple handle cover for a cast iron skillet. This will protect my hands from the heat of the cast iron handle. This is a pretty simple leather project that doesn't take a lot of time to make. The hardest part is figuring out just how wide to make the cover so that it slips on and off easily. If you cook with cast iron, you should try making one of these.

Another great video and an inspired idea - I studied traditional saddlery in London and I have a couple of suggestions if I may, once you've marked the opening, bevel the inside edges between the stitch lines and burnish the open edges prior to glue-up, it helps prevent the opening fraying. A little oil on the inside faces between the stitch lines prior to glue-up helps stop the grain of the leather wearing. Finally to protect the pan/knife whatever - use some clingfilm or tape during the moulding process.

Oh, cover the handle with plastic wrap before putting the wet leather on, but I don’t think it would rust that quick ifvit is seasoned.
