    This is so endearing to see. Decent ideas, but not ones you resonated with for most of the video. Sometimes people are like, "OH WOW A KZreadR HE MUST ALWAYS BE GOOD AT THIS" When I realize you're humanx just like us(lmao) and game dev is tough as hell. Good job sticking with it though! Very inspiring! Also it's a good lesson about game feel that you kept this idea for most of the jam, but every slight tweak to controls REALLY improved it substantially. It's all great game dev lessons

    certainly better music than I have created... and damn your game looks good given the number of restarts... looking at it the only thing I might have done differently (other than making much worse music) would have been to do the damage to the satellite as removing 1 solar panel as well as adding the fractures. Oh and as a brit Defence is the better spelling... especially if you are approaching it phonetically (unless Americans spell "Fence" (wooden structure for boundaries or person you sell your less than legally obtained items to) with a "s"...)

    Personally I like your take on the game. One of the first things I think of when someone says "stuck in a loop" is Groundhog Day (The movie not the holiday) or having a huge case of déjà vu. So when I heard the theme I thought that you didn't like it because it was too straightforward and you couldn't think outside the box, but from my perspective that's exactly what you did haha. And get some sleep Vim- I know firsthand that being a workaholic can ruin you.

    The thing you missed on the game, was the chance to upgrade the satellites so that they could take more damage hits, or fire nearest meteors reducing their damage. Or have a timed spawn rate, and satellites that give bonus while they exist, like extra armor, faster spawns, etc. I guess you were just too tired during this jam to see beyond what you've already made. Maybe you should write yourself a cheat sheet list of things you can use to improve any game, while you are discovering them. It will make your life easier in the future.

    a few ways you could give this longevity would be to add different satellite types that you can purchase in between rounds, that you get semi randomly in game (say, you have 8 maximum satellites. if you have 5 type 1s and 3 type 2s equipped you are guaranteed to have those exact amounts if you have max satellites, but if you have less then the distribution will be somewhat random). other satellites could be one that only survives one hit but shoots lasers at nearby asteroids that destroy the asteroids in 2 hits, and a bouncing satellite that bounces asteroids away and potentially into other asteroids that can survive 5 hits. Also I would make a round go on forever (ie until the earth gets destroyed) and ramp up the difficulty over time until the player loses.

  • @jilljones1865
    @jilljones18653 жыл бұрын

    Maybe could have made it that not all asteroids would hit the planet, so the player has to find out which ones are dangerous and try to avoid the others to save up satellites. Just a thought, nice game as always!

    I haven't tried the game, but it looks fun. The story makes no sense though, and I think the switch needed is just to call the satellites ships. Satellites don't zoom around, and they're not stronger than the earth. Maybe also letting the earth get hit more than once could also fit the idea better.
