    She's not making her pay twice. The Defendant (Client) did a charge back through Paypal which took the money from the Plantiff (Makeup Artist). The Makeup Artist wanted the 931 back. Very ridiculous to think you should be able to keep someone's money on a service you didnt perform which was cancelled 10 months before the appointment date...even if it was stated in her contract, which it isn't and why she lost, that's just bad business.

    I’m a professional makeup artist and do a non refundable deposit of just $50. Their makeup is just $60 and the deposit goes towards the makeup for the day of. The reason for the non refundable deposit is for brides who try to cancel us last minute and we can’t fill that spot PLUS we held that date for them where no one else could book it. People can change their minds on a dime and we lose our paycheck for that day if they just cancel.

    I DON'T LIKE THE WAY JUDGE JUDY WAS HANDLING ALEX.. FIRST OFF, ALEXANDRIA IS A CELEBRITY MAKE UP ARTIST.. SHE HAS A MASTER'S DEGREE FROM A PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGE. SHE DID MAKE UP FOR MAC WHILE IN COLLEGE, SHE EVENTUALLY GAVE UP HER CORPORATE JOB.. TO FOLLOW HER DREAMS OF BEING A MAKE UP ARTIST... AFTER HER MUA CLIENTS HER CLIENTS HARASSED TO MUA FULL TIME.. AFTER SEEING HOW MUCH MONEY SHE WAS MAKING DOING IT ON THE SIDE SHE WENT FOR IT.. AGAIN, SHE IS A CELEBRITY MAKE UP ARTIST. SHE DOES NICKI M, SHE DOES MISSY ELLIOT MOST OF THE TIME, DA BRAT, VIOLA, JANET, SHE DOES SEVERAL OF ATL HOUSE WIVES, SHE GOT HIRED ON AS THE SENIOR LEAD MAKE UP ARTIST FOR ATL HOUSE WIVES FOR SOME TIME, SHE HAS DONE MAKEUP FOR TYLER PERRY MOVIES, SHE DOES MAKE UP FOR BET SHOWS, AND SO MANY, MANY MORE CELEBRITIES.. SHE FLIES ALL OVER THE WORLD DOING MAKE UP FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS. WHEN SHE DOES MAKEUP FOR REGULAR PEOPLE.. ESPECIALLY WEDDINGS.. MOST OF THE PEOPLE HAVE MONEYYYYY, SHE IS A VERY SOUGHT AFTER CELEBRITY MAKE UP ARTIST.. SHE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR PEOPLE TO BE PLAYING WITH HER TIME & MONEY.. 99.999% of beauty services you have to pay a deposit.. that goes towards your balance if you follow THRU and it's lost if you canceled by the client (Most of the time... MEDICAL/DEATHS WOULD BE AN EXCEPTION), it's returned if the MAKEUP artist cancels.. She stays booked, So yea she did lose potential money to be made in that time slot.. Judge Judy was so RUDE AND FLIPPANT SHE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK OR LISTEN ALL THE WAY TO WHAT ALEX WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN. THIS IS JUST A LESSON ALEX HAD TO BE REMINDED OF.. I'M SURE SHE UPDATED HER CONTRACT.. EXPLAINING THE DEPOSIT RULES IS PART OF THE CONSULT.. WE ALL HAVE MADE PLENTY OF PURCHASES WHERE THE POLICY IS ON THE INVOICE OR RECEIPT.. I CAN'T SEE HOW ALEX DIDN'T HAVE IT ON THE ACTUAL CONTRACT THO.. SHE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN SOMETHING. BUT AT THE SAME TIME DUE TO THE LADY LOSING HER BABY WASN'T HER FAULT. So SYMPATHIZE WITH THE MOTHER IN THIS CASE..

I used to think people were lying, but then as the years and decades go on, you see the same problems from so many thousands of Americans, that you just accept it is true and just pity you guys just trying to earn a living.

    Someone tried to pull something like this for my wedding: I wanted to hire a photographer. About a year before the wedding I went to the photographer that took pics for a relative of mine (beautiful album, I don't dispute his work). He said, since he knew me from that event etc, that I would pay a certain price. I get the contract and the price is double what we had verbally agreed on; I hesitate but he says some stuff and I end up signing after having carefully read the contract and gave the deposit. The contract stated I could cancel within 2 weeks of signing. I wasn't thrilled, but I told myself it was going to be worth it. I spoke to my relative and she told me how, truthfully, she wasn't thrilled with the photographer because he hadn't followed instructions , had been rude and if she could go back she wouldn't hire him (she is very non confrontational, and I was a bridesmaid so I know it's not her being a bridezilla. She hadn't spoken up sooner because she hates saying bad things about people). That night I couldn't sleep. We had gone from 1500 to 3000 euros, and I wasn't even guaranteed a good service! I called and cancelled, politely, asking for my deposit back. As per contract, I had sent an offical document cancelling, too. He said he was going to keep some of it for the time I had wasted (350 euros for the 1 hour). I told him that I had cancelled within 1 week (3 days, technically) and that there was no clause saying he could keep the deposit. He insisted I was wrong, and thankfully I had my contract with me and read it to him. He said his assistant wrote the contract wrong. I was getting upset so my now husband took over and said that the photgrapher should have double checked and we aren't responsible for this (alleged) assistant's mistakes, he is. I ended up having a lawyer send a letter to him. It took this guy 3 months, but he gave me my money back. We got a different photographer (recommended by the video guy from my relative's wedding. Both two lovely gentlemen and a delight to work with) and paid 1000 euros for lovely pictures. One third of the price.

    Thats so shady! I had something similar happen to me but with an estate agent. I was technically homeless and was looking for a flat to rent. My boyfriend’s mom works as a cleaner for an estate agency, so we decided to go through them. They are known to be dodgy but as I was desperate and the flat was guaranteed without any extensive paperwork so I went through with it. I went into the office and signed the contract for my deposit (it wasn’t the lease). I deposited £1000 and the document we signed stated rent was £1275 a month. Once I’d left, the agent sent me a photo of the document with the numbers crossed out and replaced rent with £1450, because he said his boss had a conversation with the landlord and apparently they demanded more. I was so naive at the time I didn’t try to fight it but they definitely took advantage of my situation.

    Aren't there also laws which state that an invoice/receipt is not a contract, and nothing stipulated on one is actually enforceable? Where I live there's certainly such a law... and it's pretty common sense too. You can't hold someone to the terms stated on a receipt, which is a document that is produced AFTER money has been paid. A customer is entitled to know ALL terms and conditions of the transaction before paying, not after. You can't just sneak in a no-refund policy on a recipt

  • @peryole

    @peryole

    I was a contracts administrator and there’s no such law, some businesses just print that on their receipts, it’s their choice. Receipts however, can be a contract and so can invoices, so long as the adverse party agrees to it. Credit card receipts/invoices are actually contracts between you and the issuer, but rarely the business, it’s based on cardholder agreements. You’d actually be surprised at how many credit card companies will allow you to back out of a purchase. When I worked in cellular, the corporation used to print contracts on receipts, very long receipts, but they were legal and people that tried to fight them would lose. The only thing that’d cancel the contract is grace period, death, or management/customer service discretion, customers would sometimes threaten me and I’d cancel their contract and disconnect services.

    This type of business practice and attitude towards is why so many black businesses fail. Rather than practice fair billing there often seems to be this thought that I’m going to get over on you ONCE instead of “I’m going to earn your business and future business from the good referrals you give me”. We need to step the hammer up.

    Excellent comment! Now she will never get this defendant's business again, or anyone the defendant knows, PLUS she has shown herself on TV to be a greedy person! Shameful.

    Dang, she’s actually a great MUA too! She use to be on KZread (not sure if she still is). I hope she learned from this and made the correct revisions to the contract…hopefully this doesn’t scare away potential clients.

    Fake news! How can you judge someone from one episode? I’ve worked with Alex a few times for events that I’ve attended and her makeup services have always been remarkable. She’s professional, punctual, fun, very sweet and takes direct very well. This was a hard lesson to learn but she did and her business has not suffered at all. Give ppl a chance before you draw a conclusion like that and label them as “wicked”.

    @@ttrue8 Who are you Donald Trump's side kick! I don't care how many times you've worked with someone or if your experience has always been exemplary. This lady had a horrible experience that made it onto television and now onto KZread and it's all the owners fault. I didn't judge her personally, I judged the actions she took towards her own client that she should be looking out for. Unfortunately her actions revealed unethical business practices. Her actions also showed she doesn't understand what a simple contract is and that she will change her terms and conditions at any given moment, which means her clients can't trust her. As a business owner AND a business manager I operate with a customer relations mindset. One customer is never just one customer. One transaction is never just one transaction. As a business owner you should always be thinking "how can I retain this customer" AND "How can I obtain more of their business." Your friend was only thinking short-term and that's why she ended up in court...GREED! If you have to sue a customer do it in silence not for clout and then lose. You're replying to people trying to defend someone that lost a court case after she tried to take money from a woman who lost a child. Simple compassion would have cleared all of this up. But she wanted her to pay twice for a service she didn't even receive once. It's not about who she's worked with or her skillset. A person can be extremely talented and stagnant because they refuse to be humble and do what's needed to be elevated. This is about her business practices and the mistreatment of a grieving client. I guarantee you she does not want to get too big and make these types of mistakes. It's ok to make mistakes and learn from them while you're still growing. But when you get to a certain level (like you're name dropping in the comment section) and make these types of mistakes, it's not good. What she did to that lady was indeed WICKED!!! Now get your bootlicking self off my post with all that unnecessary noise.

    @@ttrue8 omg! How many times are you going to comment the same thing? 😴 I've already replied to you in another place but please can you stop repeating yourself over and over again. We don't care if she has celebrity clients or did good makeup on you. Based on this show, she looks mean, cunning and greedy. People will judge based on what THEY see 👀 ! Get over it 🙄
