actually, there is a cheaper and more user-friendly alternative to granny grating called dry wall mesh tape. the fella over at terrainosaur (i think?) turned me onto the stuff and ive never looked back. you should definitely give it a go!

I know about the stuff and have done for awhile actually, but I actually think the sturdiness of the granny grating makes it functionally different. I own two massive rolls of the stuff, but the material needs to match the need. The mesh for example would not have worked for the item I used as in the video.

Good list. 1 tip for people who will inevitably say that the granny grating/knitting mesh doesn't glue to anything: wash it first with warm water and dish soap, let it dry, then lightly sand it on both sides all over. Mine come covered in an oily residue from the manufacturing process and it is very smooth plastic so taking the oil off and roughing the surface a little lets glue adhere to it.

I would add a couple of things: 1. Dry Wall Tape. This stuff is great for adding texture to walkways or flat areas. Its already adhesive so sticking it down is easy, I'd just add a bit of pva/super/wood glue to get it to stay. works in the same way as granny grating. You can find it cheap at a hardware store for a few $ a roll 2. Mesh from window/bug screens. Same idea as the dry wall tape but a smaller mesh. Find it at a hardware/diy shop 3. Wood/Carpenters glue. This stuff is great. Basically a straight upgrade to pva. Faster drying time, especially if you get the fast dry type. I bought a large bottle for a few dollars at the hardware store. You can "paint" this over the edges of foambaord to seal it allowing you to spray your entire terrain piece without waiting for the black paint to dry 4. Dry Wall filler (Spackle). If you are using foamboard, this stuff rocks. Seals the foamboard edges and reinforces the entire piece when it dries. Just rub a wet hand over it to smooth it out to prevent chunkiness. Adds a nice concrete like texture too. You could leave it rougher for a more rusty effect, just keep in mind to will add to your dry time

I always seem to have trouble finding the plastic hair curlers in my area.... (Seems that most hair curlers are made out of foam of some sort for the core, or the ones that aren't are more like a Velcro texture on the outside....) Is it just me or does it seem like the manufacture of said hair curlers is being phased out?

Facebook marketplace here in the states for the water and nerf guns. Often you can get group lots and cheap lots with non working guns.

Yeah you can get them for cheap at times for sure. It's a greta place to get local "junk" that's great for terrain

Not quite as cheap but worth looking into are the Maestrom's Edge terrain sprues. This video where they use them to turn a parts bin into a building is worth watching in particular. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6iN1K6bc8WzqrA.html If you stretch them out with some of the ideas in this video you could get a lot of terrain out of a few sprues.

That is interesting you say this, I actually bought lots of these to see if I could use them instead of the gang boxes, ultimately I didn't but keep a few just incase I come up with a cool idea.

Regarding waterguns. Scratch Bashing used on of these really dirt cheap waterguns to create a crashed aircraft. Even those rather shitty water pistols can be used, apparently, although the plastic is a bit brittle. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZ6g07ltqJawfZs.html So, I too got myself two nerfguns, some six or seven Euros each in the toys department of a large supermarket and did the same. Looks like a flying brick, so it perfectly matches the Space Marine aesthetics. xD "Expensive" Nerf Guns are sth like 15 - 20 EUR, and you get loads of material.

I don't know, I have a hard time being ok with a video that just shows what others have done. I know you can't own an idea but you even used there footage. You could of showed your take on it or something. Maybe it's just me but seems a little like a dick move. But maybe I'm wrong

I asked for permission from everyone where I used video footage (I did not ask for the one's that just showed the video thumbnail). So I think that rules out the dick move part? And why I didn't show me making some of them is a bigger topic. For example the water guns, my videos are often about replicable terrain, I could not find a consistently cheap source for a good water gun online avaiable in US and USA, so I didn't do it - I might do at one point but that's why. The electrical gang boxes, they are mainly avaiable in that shape in the US, and while I managed to get amazon to ship them, they are no logner avaiable for me in the UK. Therefore not available to a chunk of the audience. Basically there's generally reasons why I haven't made stuff for each item, but that doesn't mean the item isn't a good choice. Could I have done 5 instead of 7, yeah maybe, but I wanted to get as many in that could help people. Other than that, I don't quite understand the issue. I don't think anyone know's where the original source for the idea's came from.

@@TerrainMadeEasy It's never a dick move when you copy something good while giving credits to the "owner" of the idea, it's called spreading a good result, so that maybe others can build on it, enhance it and take it a step forward. Imagine if a scientist could relay his research's results to only a handfull of friends and they were not allowed to spread them further. Knowledge could have never been spread. Plus, when a bunch of good ideas are presented together, it is called condensed knowledge and it is time saving for the viwer. Whether the presenter shows his own work, or the work of others is not important, on the contrary he should be commented on his effort on gathering, processing, editing and presenting the data. Happy new year and stay safe.

Mate, your channel offers people some good knowledge for decent cheap terrain options, like you say you asked permission, you credit those people so there’s no issue. Your not claiming it’s your ideas- pretty sure most crafters take ideas/ resources from everyone else, it’s how you learn.
