I love how brutal the game review makes it sound. "... White _overpowered_ Black in the middlegame". The word suits what happened in the game perfectly. Magnus was simply on another power level and he couldn't be stopped. Not even by someone as strong as their opponent. It perfectly encapsulates how Magnus goes around winning these types of games. An interview I recall where Magnus got annoyed at the reporter, they said something like "you sort of struggled this game, are you worried?" Magnus replied something along the lines of if the opponent doesn't make any mistakes there's nothing he can do about it and that it felt like they were oversimplifying/being disrespectful towards what happens in there during the games. You can't expect him to do this every game, but holy crap it's impressive.

I can't remember exactly but I think in that interview he'd just won like 7/9 games, hadn't lost any in the tournament with a field stacked with strong GMs. It's like of course there might be uncomfortable moments cos they're all amazing players too but what he did is insane

As a kid, I was at my Grandma's house playing through the opening of a chess game from a newspaper on a board, watched by her white cat Lulu. I moved the White King's Bishop to b5 putting the Black King on e8 in check, the cat reached out her right paw and tapped the Black bishop on c8 to b7, blocking the check, which was the next move. True as sunrise over Japan in the morning.
I'd love to know magnus' thought process in this game. How far out does he see these things? Is it partial adaptation along the way or is he really planning multi piece synchronized attacks this many moves away? Unbelievable, reminds me of alpha zero games
Stockfish better start improving on their chess or magnus gonna become the new engine
Its not just his chess genius but having the self confidence, guts and wherewithal to play those moves. His ability to be so deadly and lasered focused is what really separates him from the rest. This how a person becomes the GOAT by beating an opponent on a level that is artistic genius.
i find it funny, that after the rook escapes and black takes the pawn you can play qb7 which looks brilliant kinda fails after qb6 by black. however there is another brilliant move there, which is d7, "giving" up the queen 2nd time which is stopped by rf8. i honestly was shocked that such a crazy line gets refuted
