Mace Windu's Lightsaber Fighting Style - Star Wars Explained

thestupendousscrub@gmail.com Donate to Help Improve Frequency and Quality of Content: / user We examine the lightsaber fighting style of quite possibly the best duelist of his era Mace Windu. We explain how Mace constructed his own form of lightsaber combat called Vaapad and how it originated from the highly aggressive and dark side susceptible Form 7 Juyo, prior only used by SIth and Dark siders such as Darth Maul. We explain how Mace altered form 7 to allow him to use it without it corrupting him and others that tried and failed to use Vaapad for themselves.

epewid bane Mace Windu can fight Sidious, the most powerfull Sith the galaxy has ever seen, for an unlimited period of time while the three other MASTERS(!) died in a few seconds. His prefered fighting styles only limitation is this: how long can his opponent keep up? When his enemy has nothing left then Mace can still fall back to his other forms and get the job done, because he used the enemies energy and not his own. His prefered lightsaber form (Juyo/Vapaad) works with a superconduction loop. He uses his enemies own darkness/dark side energy against him. Vapaad is so advanced that mastery of multiple lightsaber forms and fighting styles are imperativ to learn it. Mace Windu mastered every form and even created his own. Oh and by the way: He has defeated the best bounty hunter in the galaxy, Jango Fett, who killed a Jedi master in a few seconds and was the genetic template for the clone troopers that killed most of the Jedi during Order 66, in the same time. Like the former mentioned Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Mace is capeable of not only moving, but fighting so fast that he seams to wield multiple lightsabers at ones and pass in and out of existence. He was one of the youngest Jedi masters and even one of the youngest council members of all time. Since he is a Korun (human from the planet of Harrun Kal), Mace was born with the necessary force sensitivity to becone a Jedi but also with a natural connection to the dark side, which he not only whitstand every moment of his life but turned into a weapon of the light. Mace Windus history is a history of greatness.

epewid bane lmao Lucas never said that. And what's the matter with mace being one of if not the most powerful Jedis? It seems there's a race issue, lmao I might be wrong but it just seems like you won't accept that this black man is one of the strongest. You don't want him to be the strongest just cause of his race it seems. That's just the vibe you're giving out man. And yes mace windu bested sidious in scratched, and a master tactician like sidious wouldn't plan something based on hope. As soon as he was about to strike , Anakin cut his arm off. What would've happened if mace knew anakin was gonna do that? What would've happened if anakin showed up a few seconds later. Sidious lost, to the strongest Jedi at that time.

Example masters of each form: Form I (Shii-Cho): Kit Fisto Form II (Makashi): Count Dooku Form III (Soresu): Obi Wan Kenobi Form IV (Ataru): Darth Sidious and Yoda Form V (Shien and Djem So): Darth Vader and Aayla Secura Form VI (Niman): Unknown. Some of the Old Republic (and hence: Legends) characters exhibited intermittent mastery over it. Form VII (Juyo and Vaapad): Darth Maul (Juyo only) and Mace Windu A good video to make if you have the source material available would be about Niman (form VI) - I'm not very knowledgeable on this form other than it's the most balanced form.

no....that is not why they are powerful...ok so think of it this way.. the strongest of the sith... they are masters cus unlike their apprentices they accept death... True sith, not the race, but true sith are powerful cus they fight to the death... an they feed on all of darkness from anger to pain... an in a time of much suffering they feed to show their might... vaapad... is a topic that has truths an falses... for even in this vid i see where it connects an wher it doesnt... vaapad.. or form 7... was made before mace windu... it was way back when tulak hord was around for vaapad was his form... and mace was once a jedi that traveled across the universe, so he found one of the holocrons that express vaapad... jedi are strong only from feeding on hope, love, kindness.. while in a war, the galaxy is divided so the sith an jedi are fueled.. plus there are more than 2 sith... there always was.. an always will be.. for the sith do seek to have there own sith empire once more.. to have as many force using knights as the jedi...

I like this explanation because it doesn't minimize Windu and his immense skill. He most definitely bested Sidious in saber combat, regardless of the entire thing being part of a bigger plan he couldn't have seen (THAT being Sidious' true power, formulating and executing a plan many steps ahead of what others could anticipate.) That was the entire point of this form Windu developed: to take Sith head on and use their power against them to seek out "shatterpoints" in it. If there were an exclusively blade related duel between Windu and any other canon saber wielder, it is pretty safe to say Windu would come out the victor.

Mostly because the curved hilt was more comfortable for using with one hand. It just fits the palm way better. His fighting style heavily resembles fencing and usually fencing swords have similarly curved hilts. It allows for more precision and speed at the cost of power. With a curved hilt you can thrust more precisely and quickly than with a traditional hilt because the blade leaves your palm at a straighter angle, so you don't have to angle your wrist itself, which for thrusting is uncomfortable and inefficient.

  • @DaxOrien

As someone who has actually practiced with such a handle, it is to allow for quick "fwap" hits, as I call them. It is all about applying a heavy, quick strike that would allow the user to reset the blade position much quicker than a full swing of a straight handle. You direct the precision of the strike much better than a standard "chop." That's not to say that you'll get more power on a swing with that kind of a handle: you won't. It's for quick strikes. That's about it.

Basically Yoda is not playing around, he's trying to end the fight and end it quick.

Alot of people like you complain about Yoda jumping around but don't ever pay attention to the fact that he is one of the shortest Jedi. All of the characters he has faced where taller than him for him a form that uses a lot of jumps is very necessary as without them he would barely have away to offensively attack an opponent. He's not jumping around like a maniac he's jumping around because his lightsaber form and height require him to, otherwise he would be finished in a lightsaber duel.

Which lightsaber form is the ideal one to fight and win with? How does form 6 work? It seems to be a bit of everything.

  • @slowedjaze5012

    @slowedjaze5012

    7 жыл бұрын

There is no form that is the most 'ideal' to fight and win with as you say. Every duelist is unique in their own way. Mace had mastered (yet it can be argued not fully) Vaapad, Obi Wan is exceptional with Soresu and Yoda with the first form of Ataru is just legendary. Remember, Jedi do not fight in aggression/offense, Sith do not fight with any resistance or to defend. A duelist uses a form he/she is most comfortable with and suits their own personal duties/goals. Saying that the Vaapad form or any other form is the most ideal to win and fight with is quite...untrue. It takes insane amounts of determination to master Vaapad (Stupendous explains it brilliantly in this video) just like it takes insane amounts to master Ataru, Djem So, Soresu etc. A duelist should choose the form that complements them and enables them to wield the blade the way THEY want to.

Niman form 6 was basically a form for consulars. The Jedi learns very basic attack defense, incorporating small bits from different forms. The main purpose of form 6 is for people who prefer force abilities over saber skills. Essentially sneaking in much more frequent force based attacks during a duel.

  • @TheStupendousWave

He tried but Mace wouldn't let him for that very reason, he had too much unchecked anger, he wouldn't even let Obi-Wan practice it, once when Quinlan Vos attempted it in a sparring match and Mace really put him in his place showing him what the form meant. You really need insane control to practice it, and Mace has to really like you, which is rare.

Because form 5 was a much stronger and aggressive form, and he was the form 5 master. He’s much better off with “strong style” than “fast style” Just because a form is fast does not make it more “aggressive” at all..... Read the Sith handbook and read exactly what Darth Bane says about them. The Sith mainly only used form 5 & 7, which, like I said earlier, they referred to as “strong style” and “fast style”..... Bane says almost immediately when talking about them that strong style was much more physically demanding then fast style. And that’s where Anakin excelled. He did way more damage with strong style than he ever would have with fast style. He was meant to be the embodiment of Djem So. But I mean it also depends on how YOU use them. Either one could be used “more aggressively” than the other. But Skywalker was much more fitted for Strong style and able to use it much more “aggressively” than fast. He excelled with it better than anyone in history.

Great idea on your new series, Stupendous Wave. I think that really adds up nicely to your channel :). That being said, I'd love to see Count Dookus fighting style being analyzed next. Most fans know it's Makashi, but I'd love to hear more about it's strengths and weaknesses and how Dooku was able to overcome them and become one of the most talented lightsaber users of his time, being even able to duel four other lightsaber wielders simultaneously. And be a match to legends like Yoda, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
