M240 Action

Guys, I uploaded a version of this video here around 8 years ago. Now I've slightly re-edited it and I'm hoping you can help get my views up on my other gun channel by watching some videos over there. Here's a link to this one: • M240 Action
Thanks!

So... let's be clear... the bolt toggle was NOT what Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy was referring to when she mentioned... "... the thing that goes up." 😆

Former armorer here, I absolutely respect the hell out of the 240 platform. Pretty much never went down unless some dropped it out of a vehicle or something, and even then the only thing that broke was the hydraulic buffer snapping in the back. As long as that didn't happen the only time they came into the shop was for regularly scheduled PMCS, and I usually wouldn't find anything wrong when inspecting them other than the occasional barrel nut going out. All the parts are big and easy to work on unlike it's little sister the 249 (f those things). Just goes to show, it may be heavy as shit but at the end of the day, mechanical simplicity tends to lend itself to durability.

It’s a rather archaic design; it’s surprising that they haven’t yet introduced locking by turning the bolt: it’s simpler, more reliable, and the receiver can be significantly lighter. The machine gun will be cheaper and lighter, the shooter will be able to carry more cartridges. And the mirror gap on replacement barrels is easier to adjust.

They did. It was the M60. The actions lineage came from the Lewis Gun. The military moved to this because it's more durable. I'm still surprised they haven't upscaled this to .50 BMG.

The mechanics of semi auto and full auto guns always fascinates me, I mean, how do people come up with these mechanics, and incorporate them in such a small, lightweight, and portable platform? It is literally a machine. Looking at these mechanics always reminds me of looking at machines in large factories.

Why do so many Americans report to have had problems with the US produced MAG58 when everyone else who has run them for the last 66 years has thrashed them to death with out incident? Is the problem the FN-USA made guns or is something missing from US training that keeps the guns running for everyone else? 1:14

I mean, they don't have a belt box and drag the ammo on the floor, sand and dust all the time, so I would not be surprised if the gun is dirty. That and the fact that M240B only has one gas setting, which is the lowest 550-650 rounds per minute (the M240G still has 3 gas settings like normal MAG) The problem of belt box is just because they think they don't need it. If you ever need a belt box, you can try the M60 way or RPD way, specifically because RPD eject down just like M240 but they have a brass deflector, and then they mount the belt box on that. In fact, they did it. You can search for "Balanced Ammunition Delivery System M240" on KZread on somewhere else. But if anything, do you have a specific report on that? This might be a hard to ask, because not all report is public, but I would appreciate if you have

Partly to do with round count, partly to do with how they are deployed and patrolled with and partly to do with the way the doctrine uses MG teams

@@jediknight1294Its nothing to do with round count. The Brits employ them on tripods in the indirect fire role and they put Vickers gun amounts of ammunition through them. Something else is going on.

@@thedesignerblacksmith5953FN MAG58s and L7s have a fully click adjustable gas regulator and later L7s have a 10 position, not a three position. Belt boxes are gamer lore from people who think of GPMGs as rifles. They work on vehicles certainly or on SF kits but in the light role they just don't work. Too heavy for use on a bipod as they make the gun cant on the bipod. Boxes are too large and dense to store effectively in carrying equipment. Its far easier to transport link on foot when worn as bandoliers or if it's simply poured into the top of a patrol pack. It makes ammunition distribution among the platoon and section easier as well. 1:14 1:14
