"Simple Man" is a song by Lynyrd Skynyrd, originally released on their debut album "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd" in 1973. The song was written by the band's lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and is one of their most well-known and beloved tracks. "Simple Man" is often appreciated for its heartfelt lyrics and soulful melody.
The song imparts advice from a mother to her son, encouraging him to live a simple and honest life. The lyrics emphasize the importance of staying true to oneself, avoiding materialism, and finding contentment in life's simple pleasures. The mother advises her son to be a "simple kind of man" and to value qualities like love, understanding, and patience.
"Simple Man" has become a classic rock anthem and is often played on classic rock radio stations. The combination of Ronnie Van Zant's soulful vocals and the poignant lyrics has made it enduringly popular among Lynyrd Skynyrd fans and rock music enthusiasts alike.

The man singing in this vid is the younger brother of the original singer and there truly is no one that can replace Ronnie Van Sant (check out Lynard Skynyrd plane crash info) The lyrics are simple and true enough though! Not trying to knock Johnny at all, but the band was not the same without Ronnie. Would recommend checking out the original recording with Ronnie singing lead. BTW, Ronnie had another brother, Donnie, who was the lead singer of another successful Southern Rock band called 38 Special. One of the best live rock performances of all-time by any rock band is the song Free Bird that Lynyrd Skynyrd performed at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977. You should react to that one.

The original band played their very last concert in my hometown. In October of 1977, they left Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina en route to their next show at LSU but their journey ended as a full band in a fiery plane crash in Mississippi. Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant, lead vocalist and guitarist, were brothers and founders of Lynard Skynard. Ronnie Van Zant, Cassie Gaines, a back up singer and her brother, Steve Gaines, guitarist perished in the crash. Skynard didn’t move forward until many years later when Johnny Van Zant pulled other members back together and began touring again. I met their drummer, Thomas “Artimus” Pyle, at a fundraiser in Greenville 10 or so years ago. What a delightful but humble man! He is the last surviving member of the original band and was in that fiery plane crash. This song holds a very special place in my heart. One of my sons passed away 12 years ago and this was one of his favorites so his widow had it played at his memorial service. On my son’s sarcophagus, the lyrics inscribed were “I’m a simple kind of man.” and my son was just that! I feel he’s with me when this song is played. Suggestion: “Freebird“, just as my late son is now! Beautiful song! Thank you for sharing! I’ll now listen to your reactions.

Badass move by the fellas. Also, they blew the Stones out of the water. As their opning act Also, you will see Ronnie perform barefoot alot. He said it was to be closer to the music. The man was a task masker too. All the solos you hear, they were done down to the note and time. Watch the OG Skynrd performances and you will see Ronnie giving cues on the solos and watching each members solo to make sure. The guys were serious musicians for sure

You need to see the live version of Freebird in Oakland California 1977. This was three months before the plane crash in October 20, 1977 that took the life of Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and Ronnie Van Zandt bunch of other members were injured. Gary Rossington, which livedtill 2023 March 5 was his death date. He passed a heart condition and he was the last original member. All of them are together again playing Freebird in the heavens.

Keep up the EXCELLENT work!!

If you want to hear the real LYNYRD SKYNYRD and see what it was all about you have to listen to the versions of the music from 1973 till 1977 plus the First And Last album after the plane crash on October 20th 1977 they reformed in 1987 for a tribute tour and it was so popular they kept going and did some really good music but the original tunes must be heard by the original band . And just so you know LYNYRD SKYNYRD NEVER did a bad song ! You'll see . Try Call Me The Breeze , That Smell , Freebird of course , The Ballad of Curtis Loew , I Need You , and Swamp Music just to name a few . Skynyrd will quickly become a favorite , if you listen to three Skynyrd songs you'll be hooked , and if you listen to six Skynyrd tunes any six they'll probably become your favorite band ‼️🎸💯 Happy listening ✌️😎🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡 WHO DEY ALL DEY EVERY DAY

So, there are 5 members from the band in the 70s that are on this stage . Gary Rossington in the unbuttoned black shirt, Ed King in the greenish shirt, Leon Wilkeson on bass in the top hat, Artimus Pyle on drums, and Billy Powell on the keys. Only Artimus is alive today. Johnny Van Zant is the lead vocalist who took the reins 10 years after the plane crash that took his brother Ronnie's life as well as Steve Gaines guitarist, his older sister Cassie.a back up vocalist, Dean Kilpatrick the bands road manager, and both pilots on October 20th 1977. Johnny has done his older brother proud for sure. That being said, you need to check-out some of the 5 studio albums and the 1 live album the band released before the crash. There is no video of that live album but there is quite a bit of live video from multiple other locations on youtube. Thanks for the reaction. One of the greatest bands ever and the gold standard of the Southern rock genre, imo. Phenomenal live.

Probably my favorite Skynyrd song because it hits hard emotionally and because it didn't get overplayed for the past 40 years like 'Freebird' or 'Sweet Home Alabama'. 'Tuesday's Gone' is another emotionally powerful one from Skynyrd you might want to check out. As far as great vocals and musicianship, you guys need to check out "The Allman Brothers Band" too. They and Skynyrd basically started the Southern Rock genre of the 70's and 80's. I'd recommend their song "Soulshine" for a similar vibe to 'Simple Man'. I'd also recommend "Whipping Post", "Don't Want You No More/Not My Cross to Bear", "Black Hearted Woman" and many others from the Allmans. Really, you haven't heard blues/blues rock vocals until you've heard Gregg Allman sing.

You will be blown away! Trust me.. money back guarantee. 100% satisfaction.. you made a mistake on this song. This is not the original singer. He died in the plane crash. This is his brother Johnnie. It's decent but he can't touch his brother Ronnie with a 10 foot pole. You need a do over guys!! Ronnie Van Zant was the heart and soul of Skynyrd. Lead singer and lyricist for all their songs. Ronnie Van Zant! You just made a rookie mistake thats all. Dont get discouraged by long play times with Lynyrd Skynyrd Songs, trust us subscribers these guys are the best rehearsed band in music history. I'm with the others on here -- you need to listen to the ORIGINAL STUDIO recording of this song. Not sure who suggested this live version but it is nowhere near a match for the studio version with the original musicians! Can't even listen to this....

While I’m glad the band kept going 10 years post plane crash, BUT you’re doing yourself a disservice by not not hearing the original band.

WHO would direct you to this version of the song? This needs to be addressed.

The original studie version is the one to watch, this doesn't do it jutice whatsoever.

I've been backstage at so many big concerts. I've seen so many greats as gen x. But this in 1987 (I was very young) was the best concert I'd ever seen. Better than Prince and that's hired to beat. I saw purple rai tour twice Ive seen Crue 3 times, ozzy was first concert in 84. I've seen almost every group/ musician from 1983 to 92 Odin em Duran Duran, all metal gtouos guns and roses. I was ad,ers (original guest) and. Was able to sit in the side of the stage. Slash asked me for drugs. No one knew who they were opening act. Long story. Axel was arrested forts song in and a roadie was asking if I could sing. I can but I was young and dint know who they were or their. Suicide. Ive seen the grateful dead overrated. Pink Floyd at the time they coukd t play so. I have because of Waters. I e seen almost every act. Robert plant from backstage. A dream as a zeppelin fan, but I was born far too ,ate. I was too young when John Bonham. died. Psychedelic furs etc. This is y fav I cert. I was with friends so stoned. And it was the 10th anniversary of the crash. They played in Birmingham. Musically, it was glorious. 😊
