Hearing Lynyrd Skynyrd For The first Time

Ойын-сауық

Today I investigate a band neither I nor (I checked with my dad)
have heard of before. Lynyrd Skynyrd.... WHERE ARE THE VOWELS AND HOW ARE THEY NOT SCANDI?
Let's embark on a journey of discovery as I listen to the renowned rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd and their song, Simple Man for the very first time. I discovered from the comments that they also wrote the beloved track "Sweet Home Alabama." but I never knew of the band! This newfound knowledge added an intriguing twist to my experience. Let's uncover the fascinating connections and stories behind their song and the very sad plane story.
From the soulful vocals to the captivating lyrics and powerful instrumentation, we'll explore the elements that have made this song a favorite among fans worldwide. It's fascinating to uncover the artistic depth and emotional resonance that Lynyrd Skynyrd brings to their music.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crash in 1977 that claimed the lives of several members, left an indelible mark on the rock music industry. We'll pay tribute to their enduring legacy and the impact they've had on subsequent generations of musicians.
Join me on this musical voyage as I discover the magic of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Get ready to immerse yourself in the soul-stirring melodies and powerful lyrics of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man."

It is a crash that never in a million years should've happened. They were having engine problems leading up to it with the same plane, and some of the band members didn't want to take that flight until it was fixed. LOTS of controversy surrounding that whole crash and the aftermath. "Free Bird" Live in Oakland was filmed just a few months before the crash. At the hotel I used to work at there was a story passed down for decades about how Lynyrd Skynyrd were guests and they did an impromptu concert in the lobby. It would have been so cool to see these rock legends jam out just for fun.

I remember the crash well. You want to see one of their live performances you say? Then you will be blown away by, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird - 7/2/1977 - Oakland Coliseum Stadium (Official). This has been considered one of the number one Rock songs in history. They performed in Oakland less than three months before the plane crash that killed the lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines backing vocalist, Cassie Gaines assistant road manager, and others. The piano player Billy Powell crawled out of the wreckage and heard crying and someone yelling to get him out of there and he went to help get them out. He said he saw the drummer Artimus Pyle crawling out of the wreckage with, "his ribbs sticking out of his chest." Powell had his whole face bashed in and his nose was hanging off the side of his face. ( I saw photo's of his face it was all bloody) He, along with the drummer Artimus Pyle and Road crew member Ken Peden went to look for help and showed up all bloody at a farm house and the residence of the house held them at gunpoint not knowing what was going on. I will leave the rest to you to google and learn about the plane crash and how they all knew it may crash since it had issues before the last flight. The flight before the last one of the engines caught fire and they all was worried about it's airworthiness. So, as you watch the live performance have in the back of your mind that some of the members died less than three months later and some was seriously injured. Other than that. You will be amazed at this video.

Less footage of the crowd and more of the band. And Ronnie pissing off the Stones by sending Collins, and Gaines on to the forbidden tongue part of the stage. 😂

This is Southern Rock at its best. Absolutely my favorite band of all time. These guys, and gals, were truly themselves and the music reflects that. They were so versatile as with ballads like this and "Ballad of Curtis Lowe", but then turn around and rock both your socks and nickers off with songs like "Sweet Home Alabama", "Free Bird", "Saturday Night Special", and many others. For a live performance I highly suggest "Free Bird" at Oakland Coliseum in 1977 a few of months before the place crash. There's not enough room to give all the info on them, so please look into them.

FYI Diane, the letter Y is a vowel depending on its location in the word. If the Y isn't at the beginning of the word or beginning of a syllable, when there are no other vowels, or when Y follows the last consonant of a word it's functioning as a vowel. In this case, "Lynyrd Skynyrd" all four of the Y's are the vowels. Some words only Y as its vowel are: by, cry, crypt, cyst, dry, fly, flyby, fry, glyph, gym, gypsy, hymn, lymph, lynch, lynx, my, myrrh, myth, nymph, psych, pygmy, rhythm, shy, sky, sly, spry, spy, sty, stymy, sylph, thy, try, tryst, why, and wryly.

Simple Man is a great song. I've actually tried to live my life in a way that mama told me. I sure as hell didn't get the rich mans gold. I remember when my big brother brought this album home. We wore that sucker out! I almost posted this on your Patreon, but thought there might be an outside chance of you reacting to it. The band was named after the guys high school gym teacher, Leonard Skinner, who always gave them a hard time about their long hair. If I may suggest, Free Bird, live Oakland 1977. The first concert I ever went to was at RFK Stadium in DC in1976. The line up : Ted Nugent Nazareth Lynyrd Skynyrd Aerosmith Outstanding show!

The word tragedy gets thrown around a lot today and is so overused, but it really is tragic that Ronnie Van Zandt died so young. I also have the LP with the flames. I bought it within a day of it coming out and had actually just played it a few times when I heard about the crash. IMO the best live version of Free Bird on video is the 1976 Knebworth one where they opened for the Stones. Not as much time spent videoing the audience as the Oakland one. Also Ronnie defying the Stone’s orders to stay off of the tongue part of the stage and sending Collins, Gaines and Rossington out there. The version(s) from the One More From the Road Deluxe CD recorded live at the Fox in Atlanta are pretty great too. There’s a great documentary about the band and the plane crash called If I Leave Here Tomorrow which actually comes with the Live at Knebworth Blu-ray/CD. The rest of that concert as well as Free Bird is great too!

Interesting enough his brother took over lead vocals in the late 80s early 90s and they had much success after that😊

Charlie Daniel's would be another great group to listen to. The song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." I do like this song. I think it speaks to being who you are and not who others want you to be (which would complicate things). Obviously, somethings need changing, like narcissism or something. But otherwise, just be you. The poor letter "y." It must be very confusing to sometimes be a consonant and other times be a vowel.

Pretty damn hard to believe that anybody in the English speaking world has never heard of Skynyrd. They were one hell of a band, very big in the 70s but still well known. Freebird in one of those monster hits that most folks have heard many times.

It was another day the music died for me Diane. I met Ronnie before that crash and you played my favorite song. I got some more tears for a friend. It was his favorite song too.

Diane, as someone who came from this generation of music, I find it refreshing to see you enjoying it. In the 70s and into the 80s there was a "southern rock" movement that consisted of bands like Lynard Skynyrd , 38 special, molly hatchet, and others, it was a mix of rock, blues, and country. One I may suggest is the Jeff Healey band that encapsulated all of these.

It's good that you finally got a chance to listen to them. You probably did before on movies but didn't realize who they were

I hate that I missed the first hour club on this one. This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands, and I firmly believe this is one of the top ten most beautiful rock songs ever written. Lynyrd Skynyrd had a massive impact on who I was and how I approached the world in high school, and, as a band that embraced the positive aspects of Southern culture in a time when it was decidedly unpopular to be from the American South, they helped me understand that being a kind, intelligent, and conscientious person and being a southerner are not mutually exclusive. This song and The Ballad of Curtis Loew (and arguably a few others) are seriously important to the modern Southern zeitgeist, and Skynyrd, in general, is a cultural staple in the deep south. Thank you so much for featuring this song on your channel; this is already one of my favorite videos you've ever done. You're a gem, Diane!

I saw them around 1973 in the Los Angeles Ca area when they opened for the Moody Blues. When they came out on stage my friend and I were blown away because they had 3 guitarists. By the time they finished their set we we're completely blown away! We became due had fans and remain that way to this day.
