Thanks, I like to see what others are using. Like you, I do a lot of estuary fishing, and have a couple of cheapish HTO rods for that. Lovely fast action for casting plastics and smaller plugs, but when fishing reefs or surf I have gone back in time, and use a longer, softer rod. It's basically a 11ft stepped up avon blank that has decent fujis rings and seat. It really is a do-all rod, I can cast plastics just as far as my HTO, but it will lob big metals for miles. I spent a couple of hours trying different combinations of rods, reels and lines and am becoming to think today's ulta-fast blanks aren't all that. More importantly for me it is still fun to catch schoolies on, having a nice through action. I would concede it is slightly harder to WTD with, but I'm not that clever at that anyway. The extra length is so useful in keeping the line above waves and weed rafts too. Your Slammer looks like it's laying the line nicely, I returned two Clash reels that had atrocious line lay, even with factory washers the custom shims. It looked good and tough but for me the line lay is everything. I've now gone back to Stradics, not as strong, but much better engineering.

I enjoyed your video as you spoke plain English and explained it in detail, I am just transferring to bass fishing and I'm confused by the reel sizes, there seems to be no consistency from one manufacturer to another, I have two reels that are rated 4000, one is quite small and the other could be used on a beach caster, both are made by Shakespeare, this makes purchasing online almost impossible.

I would go for a 4000 Shimano or Daiwa. DAIWA reels used to be a size bigger but appear now to be more inline with Shimano sizes.

Nice set of rods n reels there. Interesting to hear an experienced wrasse anglers' views on types of rods and reels to use. I fish for wrasse a lot off of Portland bill and recently bought a 9' rovex ceratec bass spinning rod. It's rated at 25-50g,but it is perfect for wrasse and bass. I use 20lb braid and a 15 lb fluorocarbon leader with this set up Many a time lately it has only just managed to pull those rockies up out of the kelp as they love to nose dive on they strike Enjoyed this video

Glad your enjoying them Karl. Hoping to get up to Portland soon. Know what you mean about rods. People love to go to light with them and can really struggle when they hook into something big
