I fish a 10’ rod. I am taller than average. I wouldn’t fish anything less than 81/2’. Traditionally we in the U.K. prefer to fish with a longer rod. The great Ed Schliffke fished with an 11’ spinning rod. I think we have been influenced by French anglers who prefers a much shorter rod. I started coarse fishing and the standard float rod is 13’. A longer rod casts longer and gives you more control in steering a lunging away from rock and sea weed. So a 10’ or 11’ is perfect for shore fishing.

Just wanted to say thank you Dude, for inspiring me to get out there and give it a go. I'm a Portsmouth resident and after watching one of your older videos I went down to Old Portsmouth with my new (birthday present) rod and reel, hooks in the water at 8.30pm. I had a schoolie bass at 37cm long on a black minnow lure at 9pm, and when I didn't have anything else on that lure I remembered something you said in that older video about switching to a seeker, so I followed that recommendation and with that I hooked a big 45cm European squid(!) at 9.45pm. I went home at 10pm. Very surprised to land the squid on the bass lure, and much exultant "HURRAH" noises were heard along the beach, and on the (Old Portsmouth) Victoria pier by a fellow angler (fishing with with bait) who hadn't landed anything despite him putting in more time than me, as I walked back to my car I detoured via that pier to find out if he'd had anything and to give him some encouragement that "the fish are deffo out there!". If I hadn't watched that video of yours I likely wouldn't have gone out tonight, and most likely not gone to that location, but thanks to your inspiration I had a really great night and I am now massively back into lure fishing! Tight-lines dude, and keep up the good work! 😀

I spent £30 on a rod and reel combo at my local tackle shop, its dont me well. I've upgraded the reel but the rod! I cant believe how good it is for the price... it near on folds in half if I wanted it to! And it's got great action and casts a mile, I would put it up against any of my other more expensive bait fishing rods. Its shocking how good a glass fibre rod is compared to a carbon fibre when you compare the price. Lesson learned tbh, I did have a look at some more expensive ones but I didnt know if I was going to be that into lure fishing so I went cheap and I'm glad I did. If it breaks, I'll just get a new one tbh
