@@gregorymazzoni2428 I don’t know. I saw an interview where his manager recalled a conversation he had with Pavarotti’s wife. She insisted it would be great if they could perform this song together. Either the manager or Pavarotti was concerned about translating the words into Latin to fit the tempo etc and the response was “ your singing in Latin. Who understand Latin? They won’t know the difference.” I’ll try to locate the interview

I respect his great courage as an opera singer to traverse other genres, something you wouldn't expect from someone with the background in opera and musicals; you'd beileve to be conservative more than anyone. Likewise i'm astonished how well someone seemingly _outside the genre_ can accompany and complement the other singer and song as a whole. This one collab is imo my favorite example of this, probably because I love both worlds of the _reggie vibe_ and _classical opera_ .

Yes even I felt so... James is spontaneous and comfortable in his turn... Whereas Pavarotti is tensed to get his lines right. Its only during the end that Pavarotti is relaxed as the show went well. But this song is very very nice and so is the combination.

@@ganeshn9464 I agree except I don't quite feel "tense" when Pavarotti sings. He just has less motion because he is very centered, and he sings in a completely different style-classical opera style. In fact Pavarotti's voice sounds very broad and sustaining to me, and it tickles with your ears...so beautiful. And I find this combination and contrast to be really beautiful too.

It really teases the imagination to consider the possible reactions this performance would have had in the US a few hundred years ago, not considering the lyrics, which obviously in large part would have been unintelligible for the people of time, but rather the conceptual essence, groundbreaking combination of musicality and intense emotion of the performance.

Sadly James Brown never got the full recognition he deserved when he was alive. Elvis credited James Brown as being a huge influence on his music. James Brown really was a monumental figure in music not just soul.
Reminiscent of Jackie Gleason because he and James Brown both wrote and orchestrated beautiful music simply by instruction to other musicians. Gifted by God.
A marriage of soul and opera. S’wonderful. Both vocalists were gifts from God.

James brown wrote this song almost 60 years ago and it’s still as powerful and emotion provoking as it ever was. There’s not many people out there who can creat music that resonates for generations. I only wish I could understand Italian to truly appreciate what poveratti did because I could only admire the sound of his voice.

If there would be an award for the greatest performance of all times, it would be this masterpiece.
James Brown is 69 and Pavarotti is 66 or 67 here, and they both sounded great despite their advanced ages. I wonder if the younger singers of today will have the same longevity, I guess only time will tell.

Millions have done it before, millions will do it after. I don't understand why people can't simply enjoy music; they MUST put down another just to raise their preferred genre up. For that, you do these men a disservice.

My Mom loved Pavarotti, my Dad loved James Brown and here they are in a duet. How in my 63 years did I miss experiencing this!? Oh well, I have now. Superb! Spectacular! The words are deeply profound and always relevant. BRAVO!!!!!

I love the acknowledgement of james brown to Pavarotti after he sings his first verse. It shows the harmonious love between two very different, but equally beautiful music styles. One of my favorite collabs to ever exist.
