Everything about this song is perfect. The melody, the inspiration, the lyrics, the softness of Bono's voice, the absolute genius of Pavarotti, the "Don't let them kill us" banner. It all encouraged me to be more graceful. 🌸

Nothing at all, and it gives me such a anguish to watch Ukraine. I spent 5 hard years in Sarajevo, from 8th grade till I graduated high school. Yes, education was important, maybe we had to have classrooms in basements, in warehouse, with sand bags around windows and soldiers standing guard with us inside , but we made it. Now we all suffer from survivor guilt, ptsd, nightmares, night paralysis, etc ,, just because we were so busy back then even under 4 thousand projectiles fired at us daily , 30 years to the day we watch Ukraine, and the world standing still. Memories started flooding back, rummaging through old diaries, and remembering every day . Only we know how it was , only we watched friends and neighbors blown up into pieces and walking 24 mile under sniper fire and projectiles through puddles of bloody of those who walk the same road just minutes before. We don’t talk about it. We’re silent cause there’s no words to explain. We’re just marching down the life line with anti anxiety meds and pain in our chest. We cry a lot, it doesn’t help, maybe we are scattered around the world, but we are stil there , we are Sarajevo .

I love this, for several reasons. First, I love that Bono didn't feel the need to over sing to try and compete with Pavarotti. The temptation had to be there. I love how Pavarotti looks so pleased at the reception U2 receives as they walk out. I love how as Pavarotti is singing, Bono stands back and closes his eyes in appreciation. True respect from masters in their respective genres towards each other. That is class.

This is a true rock opera born from the fusion of U2 and Pavarotti in addressing the tragedy of Sarajevo. This miracle of a beautiful song only comes around in a lifetime. The studio version of this song pales in comparison to this live recording. A true musical rock opera gem that has not been repeated since this creation. It's 2022 (over 25 years later) and I have yet to find a song fusion ( rock and opera) that has come along since to match this song.
