One of the best songs ever written, performed by one of the best musicians ever.
I am sitting here in my flat in Berlin, not far from the Wall, and listen to this wonderful performance...I cannot emphasise enough how life-changing David Bowie's music has been to me and a lot of my friends. I am 55 years now, and David would have been 77 a few days earlier, and still discover new tiny aspects in his music and simply enjoy it. What a chance we have to live today and be able to still listen to his music.

The closing minute of this song is David at his best… singing his heart out and feeling every moment… turn it up!
He larks around like a schoolboy at the beginning, having a laugh, but once the band strikes up he immediately falls into character and produces a mind blowing performance. What a legend this man is, and will continue to be, for countless generations ahead…

I, I wish you could swim Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim Though nothing, nothing will keep us together We can beat them, forever and ever Oh, we can be heroes, just for one day I, I will be king And you, you will be queen Though nothing, will drive them away We can be heroes, just for one day We can be us, just for one day I, I can remember (I remember) Standing, by the wall (by the wall) And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads) And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall) And the shame, was on the other side Oh, we can beat them, forever and ever Then we could be heroes, just for one day We can be heroes We can be heroes We can be heroes Just for one day We can be heroes We're nothing, and nothing will help us Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay But we could be safer, just for one day Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh, just for one day

Because he was singing this song, in the city where it was written and meant so much to him and the Berliners. Since he sang it at the wall and the east Germans were on the other side singing it with him. After the fall of the wall, every concert he had in Berlin afterwards, he knew they were now there with him, singing it together. He said himself, singing Heroes anywhere else in the world, did not give him the same feeling as it did in Berlin. David loved Berlin, just as much as Berlin loved David.

Hello Amy,how are you doing today
That dude was so great. I watched him in Philadelphia at the electric factory in the 90s, and he just kept saying do you have a little time? He went through his whole history musically. I was about eight rows from the stage maybe less, and I felt like I was levitating. At that point I was completely sober for about 6 years. He saved my life creatively in a lot of ways.

That was actually the third time I saw him one time he was at the spectrum and it was really bad bad sound system and he seemed all really tired and it wasn't very good at all. Then I saw him again at the spectrum during the let's dance tour and it was a lot better, he was in good shape than working out and all of that. Yes! The build up in three stages through the verses from such a wonderfully controlled, subdued starting point, song and instrumentation-wise. The soaring trademark guitar riff entering first half way through the song.
"Come to daddy, baby" ironically melt my heart when Bowie said that
i remember going to see him in Leeds early 1970's.....me a male with long blonde hair and nail varnish..!!! what... the looks i got on the bus to Leeds lucky i didn't get done over... :) now im 60 married, grandkids, bowie is gone....what happened.......... life i suppose..

My, no one is like him. Thankful for his music.
I felt that too! And I was only watching the video on a monitor 21 years after it was recorded. That says something about how epic this performance was.

I saw him on this tour in Irvine, CA. Very close to where I grew up, but I lived in Illinois at the time. Flew all the way out to see the show, turned around and went back to Illinois the next day. Third row seats! ($$$)Totally worth it. Only Time I ever saw him live. I remember thinking, ya know, neither David nor I are getting any younger. Do it while you can. So flippin' glad I did. His voice was incredible the whole night. Earl Slick kicked ass on that guitar. So great to hear him do all of those old songs, especially "Always Crashing in the Same Car" cuz it was so unexpected. But I was in heaven when he did "Slow Burn." Been to 100s of concerts in my life, this one was THE BEST! The atmosphere was amazingly similar to a Rolling Stones show. You know, all day affair, no body gave a shit about the opening bands, everyone rushed the stage when he came out. I was there with old friends and good wine. What a great night.
❤ I'm 60 I live in Australia & love David Bowie forever 🎶🎼🎵🌹

David Bowie arrived 1/8/1947 - BlackStar arrived 1/10/2016 - So the Monday after reading about the death of David Bowie I read Sammy Hagar (The Red Rocker) as he spoke about how David had influenced him so much and he really wished that he had met him. …So I replied to Sammy that “You did Sammy, you have met him, as once you hear David Bowie and he enters your soul, you know him and you will never be the same again, ever! - - - - I then mentioned how strange it is that when there is someone you've never met before passes, you can still feel such a loss. ….David stayed up with me many a lonely night over the last 45 years - making my bad days better - my nights brighter, all while making me a better musician. ...What a talent. - What a career. - What a loss. - What a soul and thank you for sharing it and thanks for touching mine. -J.D.Gragg We all know there is a footprint on the Moon - now we know there is one on Mars, David Bowie's.

Lady BlackStardust Daniyal Zulfiqar Well thank the both of you so much as that was a very nice and educational on many levels to have said - and you're right, as I felt it. ...My comment above happened just like that, I just started writing as a reply to Sammy hagar with absolutely no thought about it, it was if I didn't write it. ...I know, strange huh. ...I have had this experience once before and that has since became my 'creed' for my life. ...I lived a rather private proxy life and didn't get on Facebook till the very end of 2010 - (I still even use an avatar rather than my picture for my profile) then within the first year I believe - there was a famous Frenchman author and artist named Theodore Zeldman in France that contacted me in the U.S. and asked me to join the Oxford Muse. ...I was very surprised and humbled that he knew I was an "American Inventor" so he apparently knew somewhat about how people and inventors think because he asked to do the most profound thing. ....He said to step away from the computer - stop multi-tasking - slow down and think about what I really wanted to accomplish in life. ...Not problem solving, not completing a project, not a task for that day, but for my life as an entirety, so I did. So I sat down and started writing by hand about what I wanted to accomplish and how I felt about life, and that is when 'that' happened to me. I sat and wrote just without thinking really - just letting my subconscious take over. ...So after I finished it - I read it - and it was like an out-of-body experience, because I felt like I wasn't the one that wrote it! ....It was very bizarre. ....It's not too long but it would look like that on this thread, so please go to my page and read my 'Creed' it as maybe it will inspire you as your comments here has inspired me. ...And you truly have! ......Sincerely, J.D.Gragg
