LPG campervan gas cooker... install and review. Voyager 4500.
Just a quick review and installation run through of our DIY campervan conversion LPG gas cooker. We went for the voyager 4500 as it has a double hob, grill and oven and is very easy to install and use!. Having the ability to cook in our van should make vanlife that little bit easier!

Thought I had watched all of your videos, then these have just popped up from 3yrs ago.
Just fitted one of these. Great oven 👍🏻 the instructions - leave a minimum of 40mm opening at rear - to line the recess with sheet metal. 0.5mm And a minimum of 20mm at the sides, so there should be a 20mm gap between worktop and unit to allow venting.
Love your channel, very relaxing, much nicer to watch than some others. Thanks!

Good demo of the installation, on the Oven is not the control knob a regulo so when the door is open all the heat goes out but when closed and gets to temp the flame will reduce.

Great review. I'm thinking about replacing my microwave and hob with one of these in my campervan. As a gas engineer, the oven is working correctly. It works on a stat and it's either high heat or low heat (you might need to give it longer to warm up 10-20 mins). As long as you've installed the cooker to the manufacturers specs in regards to air gaps and ventilation the install looks good. I've a list of things I want to do to my van and this is on it, just not at the top 😀

About the size of the flame - it has a thermostat, so you won't always see the flame size adjust if you turn it down because the thermostat controls that, not the knob...

Hi Dan, you should be able to get one from screwfix, or any plumbers merchant, it's a fairly common part. From memory it's 15mm to 15mm copper pipe compression fitting, but do double check. Thanks so much for watching, glad you found it useful 😁👍

Hiya, love the van! :) were just fitting our own voyager now, but am wondering how you fitted it? It says in the instructions to use "fixing feet" but doesn't actually come with any 😅
@campervibe
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I bought some 90 degree brackets and fitted them to the cooker by taking out one of the screws at each bottom corner and using it to fix the bracket on, then screwed the bracket to the wooden surround. I did something similar at the sides with the pre threaded holes that are already there. There's a link to the brackets I used in the video description.

@@campervibe Perfect thank you :)
Gas marks are a target temp for the oven to reach, NOT the size of the flame.

Hi jen, what we have done is used some L shaped brackets and used the existing screws in the rear bottom corners of the oven to fix them to the oven, then screwed the brackets down to the wood the oven is sitting on. Then we have done something similar at the top of the oven on the sides where there are two bolt holes for a gimbal system. Here we used the same L shaped brackets, if I remember it's an M4 bolt into the oven and then screwed up into the wooden frame of our kitchen. Hope that helps, thanks for watching 😁

We have this cooker in our camper van - it is great - cooks well and plenty of oven space. But I do find that it gets really hot around it - there seems to be no insulation - I do worry a bit about the cupboards etc around it..... ?! any advice? And - what's wrong with using a tea towel on a tray instead of a £35 dish rack??!!😄
@campervibe
Жыл бұрын
We have a gap between the work surface and the cook around the 2 sides and back which helps it ventilation and due to that it does not get too hot to be fair m, and oh yeah tea towel works so well 😆🙂
I love this unit. But DANG!!! 😪😪 Your suppliers do not ship to US and I can’t find a similar item here in the US. Do you know of any sources that ship to America?
@campervibe

Oh wow, no we don't sorry, hope you do find stuff though 🙏🤞
I have a plastic pastry board with rings so you can roll out to the size of pie you require😅
Also - i found that if we are parked up not totally level - pans can slide easily on the top.... now since it is designed for boats - it seems a design fault!! You don't want a pan of hot stew down your legs.....! So I use a few corks stuck in the bars at the front to ensure that don't happen! (side effect of too much wine drinking...)
@campervibe

😂😂 good idea
A lot of ovens work like that. They stay on high flame till the gas mark temp is reached then suddenly go to a low flame. Then visa versa if you open the door and wait the flame will suddenly go high there is no middle gas flame. Basically set the gas number to about where you normally cook and see what happens.
@campervibe
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, a lot of experimenting and trying out has happened since that and I love my oven 👍
Well done both of you, for fitting the oven and the cheese & pickle pockets :-) Thanks for an honest review - don't see enough of those! One thing though, is there not a risk that any leaking gas won't get as far as the drop-out cos it will have collected in the drawer under the cooker?
@campervibe
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jerry 😁 the drawer doesn't go all the way back as far as the fitting on the back of the cooker so I'm hoping that any gas will by pass the drawer rather than turning into the small gap if that makes sense and still sink down to floor level, and the manifold is under the drawer anyway. Hope I've explained that OK lol!
Emily please can you bake some bread; might be hard to find flour and yeast but it would be interesting to see how it turns out in that oven. Ta! :)
@campervibe
4 жыл бұрын
Haha, I (Louise) think bread is an excellent idea! If we can get the ingredients I'll see if she's willing to give it a go! 😁
When you turn the oven on the flame will be large until the oven reaches the temperature you have set it for. Then the flame will go really small. So as you were turning the dial up the cooker though you wanted it hotter than what you had had it on previously so the flame went full to heat up the oven. When you first light the oven leave it with nothing in it until the flame goes small and then you know it’s the correct temperature. Plus the food won’t burn at the back of the oven and you shouldn’t need to turn it.
@campervibe

Thansk Carol, the oven works amazingly it's been in and tested fully for well over a year now 😀😀

@campervibe

😂 The oven was pre heated lol! Honestly, there is no change between 5 and 8, the incoming gas supply doesn't increase, I think 5 is actually 8 and what would be 4.5 is 7 and it works back down like that.

I was looking at these cookers briefly today as vanlife.tv installed one. Personally I'd be gutted with the grill and the no change in gas flame between 5 & 8. As for heat protection I'd fit aluminium sheet underneath, back and sides, that's what I have around my wood burner and it always stays cool to the touch.
@campervibe

Yeh, its not like a domestic cooker but it was vital for us to have a narrow cooker, the only ones that looked better were very deep. We don't mind turning things, it's not a big deal really. As for the heat shield, if I had a log burner I would also install one, but with this, apart from the area I identified it doesnt get any of the surrounding area hot, or even warm, I think as it's not enclosed.
