Hi I would definitely seal the cut edges of both the fixed worktop and the removable piece with 3 or 4 coats of clear varnish. Allow each coat to soak in well and dry before rubbing down and applying the next one, this will help prevent moisture absorption into the worktop. I would also make up a stainless steel angle frame welded at the corners to drop into the cut out in the worktop this should help to act as a heat sink and protect the edges of the worktop from scorching or charing when the gas hob is in use. Have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Aluminium angle to protect edges, maybe router down so it still sits level with surface. Possibly hinge the removable top instead and use as a splash back when cooking ?

Looks good. I'd add a metal strip to that thin plywood strip, screwed up under neath - out of sight, just to strengthen it. Plus, instead of cutting away the birch, near the large cooker, you could put a protective SS angled strip along that edge. Just some thoughts, take or leave.

Here's another suggestion. prepare several days food at a time - soups, stews, chillis etc. There are lots of ways to make the Induction work in winter. Also consider DC-DC charger.

As others have said Hugh, a steel trim of some sort may be needed. Looks Good in there mate 👍

IMHO the cut edges will burn without protection.

Hi @HughTube how do you find the Tasman grill? We’re considering buying for our van conversion but can’t find many reviews online. Thanks, Caitlin and Jarryd

Hey, thanks for the video. Have you found that this rattles much when driving?

A few people have recently gone all-electric and I think it's too soon to ditch the gas. The next innovation should be a toilet/gas collection system. I'll patent that idea! The combustion point of wood is fairly high and covering it up with conductive steel won't serve much function other than hiding the scorch marks? (insert legal disclaimer here)

Hugh likes to keep you guessing, when he'll upload again, when he'll come out of hiding, but I'm fairly certain he's still alive, just planning something epic...😄
