Lake Las vegas got in trouble for claiming that they only used "recycled" water, but were, instead, found to be purchasing fresh water through a concealed third party purchaser. It's not the deed, it's the cover up..

Hi Digger. The claim for recycled water must have been a while ago? I knew many people thought it was recycled, but I wasn't aware the LLV made the claim it was? Technically, it includes recycled water....Used water that gets treated at the sewage plant is then released into the Wetlands, which flows into Lake Mead. This treated water gets mixed with CO river water, then sucked in a pipe and treated again for drinking water. The word "recycled" could be played on in different ways.

2% is a lot of water for 1 customer to use.... Would you be ok if Bellagio used 2 billion gallons? What about a golf course? What if 10-20 customers started using 2 billion gallons.... Does not matter when your lake was made but it matters the times you are in and yes if a home owner can only put in a 600 sq ft pool and no more "new" Casino fountains maybe just maybe its time for Lake Las Vegas to do its part and cut back for a while and be part of the solution not the problem.

Step 1 - Build a community in the desert. Step 2 - Realise no water so dam the only major water supply. Step 3 - Continue expanding the community in a desert. Step 4 - Forget about step 2 and the desert. Step 5 - rinse and repeat. Step 6 - Complain and blame. Notice the word desert, it is a desert for a reason.

Lake Las Vegas certainly isn't a direct, major cause of Lake Mead drying up. (Domestic water accounts for less than 20% of water usage in Nevada; agriculture is the big draw, with irrigation taking nearly 70%.) But the very existence of things like Lake Las Vegas speaks to the larger issue: How long can humans keep constructing massive water features in a desert with very limited water? Was it even a good idea to begin with? Here is a crazy number: New construction accounts for something like 30% of the Las Vegas economy. So we can't *stop* building or else we'll crash the economy, but we can't build *forever* because there just isn't enough water. How sustainable is that? O_o Seems like these are issues that we might wanna take a look at, you know, BEFORE we turn on our taps and nothing comes out.

I agree...I think the way of life as we enjoyed it is....who knows? Everyone thinks it's a good idea at first, until the repercussions happen decades later. Isn't this the way it always goes? Moving forward I think this water shortage will (and should) impact many things that aren't necessary for our future survival.

@@lakelasvegaslife7903 thank you...my name comes from the fact that I want to grow flowers...from Desert ( my sandbox here in Vegas ) to Eden Blooms. However, with the lack of rain, the drought, the expense to water , even drought tolerant flowers, I opted to wait. To increase the fertility of my sandbox, which is a quarter of acre of sand. I rescued bunnies because they are adorable ( dont worry thy live inside, gave them half of my office, no hutch, just roam around their enclosure, eating me out of house and home) to improve the soil. Bunny Manure is fabulous! and its a cold manure so you dont have to , like cow or chicken manure compost it, use it straight out ...of course all the hay they waste, looking for that perfect blade of hay ( they are gourmets you see ) also goes into improving the soil and their urine has great nitrogen but it needs to be diluted or that will burn the roots of plants, at least 1 part to 10 is my favorite solution although less is more. I also want to start selling it. My Bunns eat healthy organic veggies, purify water and hay that has not been sprayed with herbicides in between plantings. Their essential minerals mix has no soy hulls , soy mesh or molasses. Good stuff in , great stuff out! Its pure like nature intended it to be. I call our product PooPee Do, We doo doo our Best for you! The Gold Standard in Fine Rabbit Manure! lol Getting ready to start selling it soon. Had to use the product first on my sand lot! lol This stuff is great to plant in and can be used in indoor pots because its digested veggies and grass. I do realize it would change many things but I also think the practice people and businesses get could easily be worth it if the worst comes to pass. Of course my interests and perspective comes from well over 1,000 miles to the east and presently in zero drought condition according to the drought map. Anyhow it sounds to me like the best hopes for you over there are good-to-great snowpacks in the coming years because monsoon season, although better than nothing, just won't do the trick. Hi Oh Just Quit It! Southern NV is (and has been) taking steps to get us to move towards a better conservation mind set. No grass is to be planted in any new constructions homes, and any non-functional / decorative grass must be removed within the next couple of years. There are other things, like no watering on Sundays, no watering between certain hours during the week, etc. I think NV has been great about conserving. We are under our states legal entitlement to water anyways, and that is even with all the new construction and relocations to our city. Could we do more? Sure, I think so.

If you have the angle of the ramp, you can use that figure of 300 feet dropped in the water level in that year to calculate how much the lake has dropped in feet going downward. You can also figure out from the water dropped this year to guestimate how soon you would reach dead pool levels. But if all of your marinas are already inaccessible. That's a pretty good indication you are in serious trouble.

Have you thought about selling and moving from Lake LV? This water issue is going to get worse. Eventually, the water level at Lake Mead is going to drop so much that Lake LV will not be allowed to buy enough water to keep the lake. Once the lake is gone one of the main appeals of the community will be gone. If I was in your shoes I would be asking myself if I own property in a place that will be a ghost town in the future.

One thing that has me wondering, is why does lake las vegas purchase so much water from lake mead? The las vegas wash goes right to lake las vegas, goes in a tunnel under lake las vegas and continues on to lake mead. why not use the treated water from the wash to keep lake las vegas full for free, and excess heading off to lake mead. All the treated sewage water is dumped into las vegas wash. Treated, and cleaned. Does it bother you at all that as a resident of lake las vegas, you are spending so much money on water, when it can be had for free?

Hi Mark Hull. Back in the 70's or so (?) I'm not sure who came up with the idea of the wash bypassing Lake Las Vegas and heading straight to Lake Mead. I'd have to do some digging, it's hard to find info about it and it's kind of sparse. I think I saw something about Lake Las Vegas having water rights that went along with the land when they acquired it from a farmer. I'd have to dig that info out again, I think I printed it out. Thanks for your comment, and sorry it wasn't a better answer. My guess is that the governing authorities wanted the natural flow of water to circle back to Lake Mead regardless of whether or not a desired man made lake was in the way. Then the city could sell that water to Lake Las Vegas instead of give it away for free, since Lake Las Vegas is a private development anyways.

The issue we need to be wary of is not dividing each other via argument over anything : covid, money, and water. On the flip side of the lake las vegas issue of buying lake mead water is that the Vegas water patrol, I have heard, is vigilantly fining residents for watering after 10 am or breaking other newly enacted regulation plans, some of those people resent that Lake Las Vegas can buy water when they are told to rip up their lawns. I see both sides. On the other side, Lake Las Vegas was created in around the time of one of the hightest Lake Mead Levels in history, so it's easy to see that in the initial planning it was and still is a nice idea, but probably an idea that also should conform to the current water reality. The way government tends to rule is to cause rifts between ordinary citizens that have much in common. Citizens of Las Vegas, if they live in Lake Las Vegas or not, have more in common with each other in terms of class power and status than with the government elite. It's called divide and conquer. I see both sides to the lake las vegas issue, having just spend two weeks in Las Vegas, two days at Lake Las Vegas exploring and then down to Hoover Dam area. I explored the areas from the Wetlands all the way to Lake Mead. "Remember that we have more in common with each other than with the government, need to keep that in mind and not let our passsionate views get in the way of treating our brothers and sisters in ways that keep us sharp and able.

The fact that the resource IS diminishing is the problem. Especially when you consider the millions of people whose very lives depend on that water. Both for drinking, and for growing food to eat. It's not like we can just make more water, or make more snow fall in the Rockies to replenish. Nor can we create food without water.

So 195 times as much as the average citizen would be allocated for just the lake, which is not even getting into how much more goes into those 29k's personal usuage, OR how much of the total goes into non-personal usage for the rest of the state. Or to put it another way, the 29K who live on/in LLV are alloted 51,000 gallons of water a piece, each year JUST for the lake. Top tenth of 1%-ers, indeed.

The alfalfa fields (alfalfa in at the top of water intensive crops.) Then we can discuss the cotton fields (also very thirsty) and even the RICE fields. Completely not appropriate crops for the desert. THIS is why Lake Mead is drying up. Over 80% of Lake Mead water goes for agriculture. It's not the fountain at Bellagio, not golf courses, not Lake Las Vegas. Besides, Nevada's share of Lake Mead is 4% (we use 3%) Arizona gets 35% and California gets most of the rest. If we cut Nevada's share off completely, it would not be noticeable. We need truth right now. It's critical that water use be drastically cut where it will make a difference.

  • @lakelasvegaslife7903

    @lakelasvegaslife7903

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Yingyang, a significant contributor to the decrease in Lake Mead water level is the population explosion in Nevada, Arizona, and California. That also means more people to feed, so there has been a huge increase in agriculture, and watering these crops really takes up the lions share of the water that AZ and CA get. I don't think there is a way to markedly reduce the decrease (on an immediate level) unless government wanted to overstep and put controlled water meters on our homes and businesses. I'm certainly not suggesting this and am totally against it. But if an immediate boost was needed that's what I see. However, Nevada doesn't use up all of it's legally allotted water supply. Most of it goes on to AZ and CA. CA is the last to have to take cut backs based on what water shortage tier we're at. Dead pool happens when the lake water gets to 895 feet above sea level. It means it can no longer cross through the dam and pass to AZ and CA, so they would be in big trouble.

Maybe a volunteer group from lake las vegas to help clean up the lake mead shore because of all the water that lake las vegas took from lake mead. Sounds fare doesn't it. This lake will be gone within another year not unless something drastic happens. From this video the water level has to be less than 1040 ft. because that was the level a month ago.

im not sure that is the definition of dead pool. The "critical level" is above dead pool which as you say is when the water levels are such that it can not be used to generate electricity.

You are not years away from disaster. You have to understand how the dam is built. It will not go to dead pool. But the outflow is a critical factor. Only five of the seventeen generators operating at this time. The water quality is deteriorating. Just keep building.

Lake Las Vegas should be exempt from any water restrictions because Rich People are paying for the water. Sounds like the rich can always get what suits them at any price. This is not about the money, it’s about squeezing as much water out of the Colorado water system so the people whose existence relies on the River will survive a few extra months. Regardless if all of Lake Las Vegas drys up or not, the entire area including Bolder City, Henderson, Las Vegas (and surrounding areas will be reliant on trucked in water by 2024. Water will cost $10.00 a gallon. Work will also dry up along with housing values. A mass migration back to the East will happen. And, other than Prayer and water conservation to fix this environmental disaster right at out doorstep.

I am not one to comment on many videos, but I had to on this one and what was said. I got out of this video, that it's okay to take as much water as you want out of Lake Mead as long as you pay the big money to do so. Lake Las Vegas took and paid for a little over 1.3 Billion last year and just over 1.5 Billion gallons worth this year. So it's similar to drug trafficking from Mexico and sex trafficking from other countries; as long as it's paid for then it can be done. Well I just hope that if anyone in Lake Las Vegas has a fire, that there will be water available to put it out. But that's right, Lake Las Vegas and other major communities have lakes and can get their water from their own neighborhood lake. But it doesn't happen that way, the lakes are for looks and not for use. Another solution to the problem would be for Southern Nevada to chip in with California and Arizona to share the cost of a processing plant that would turn ocean water in drinking water. The Posideon Company in California had the solution at the cost of $1.4 Billion. This could be split at least 3 ways to help generate usable water. Additionally, Clark County could have large high-end community lakes allowed to just dry up. Every high-end neighborhood has water that is just used for looks and it needs to stop.
