I had a 100 fever coming here, was told about the hearing 18 hours before it started from another state, and was completely unprepared. The lobbyists are made aware of the hearing months in advance, and are paid to advocate their stance on issues for a living. What offends me more than anything else, or even their viewpoints, is how fundamentally *bad* so many people are at their chosen jobs, and this one is no different. I think I could make a pretty kickass anti-right-to-repair lobbyist. I almost kinda want to try it just to see that it can be done.

NanoAggression If someone is passionate about a cause, they’re gonna go to DC themselves no matter what it takes, no matter if they’re so broke they celebrate getting their bank account back to 0 after paying overdraft fees! Point being, even if Louis’ schedule was fill & this was 10yrs ago when he wasn’t making as much, I bet my whole paycheck he still would’ve been there. I’ve seen everyday ppl go to DC to speak that don’t make squat. But that isn’t the point at all. People like Ms. Christina aren’t just paid by her lobbying firm, but are definitely being paid by Apple themselves. It’s no secret that MOST major corps, especially tech companies, have inherited shady business practices and will do whatever it takes to keep their business running the way it always has, with as little regulation by the govt as possible. Although they repeatedly break the laws already in place. I guarantee Apple has paid “hush money” and money for advocacy on their behalves. That’s Louis’ point.

@@RedPowder That's not the same thing. A circuit diagram is just a paper version of the physical layout of the product they sold you, like an assembly manual of ikea furniture. Louis never sold you a product that secretly contained all his customer's info, now did he? A better comparison is this: you buy a new car, and 2 months later the battery suddenly dies. You cannot find the battery because it's somewhere deep inside the dashboard. You ask the car manufacturer for a repair manual how to change the battery, and they tell you to either go fuck yourself or come to one of their dealers who charge 1500 bucks for a replacement. You decide to try it yourself, and you find it. You replace it with another battery. Your car still refuses to start and shows a message on screen telling you that the battery is not legitimate, even though you bought a great battery of the correct voltage and capacity that is used in many other car brands. It's called sabotage. They've sabotaged their products to make more money off of you when they break. That also incentivizes them to make products that break easily, because those make more money. When you buy an Apple product, you've been scammed. "Think different", right?

No, the purpose of a fuse is to prevent a fire in the case of too much current draw. Some fuses are also there to prevent damage to other equipment in the circuit. Many of these are user-replaceable like blade fuses and bus fuses. The fuse in question is a teeny, tiny fuse soldered onto the board. It is obviously only there to prevent fire and not designed to be replaced. That being said, we SHOULD be allowed to replace (at our own risk) them if we have the skill/balls to do so.

Great job. As an ex-repairer I sincerely thank you for going out of your way to respond from 'our' point of view. In my opinion we (repairers) have no voice in Australia due to IP laws so for us to get leverage it will all depend on the outcome in the USA for us to even think about fighting this, although we could lean on precedence with regards to this scenario when the motor vehicle repair industry were threatened with this around 1990. (I chose to close down my business due to the availability and cost of original parts and due to the threat of this right-to-repair quest, which I am pessimistic about the outcome.)
