    Life must be miserable as a lobbyist. You can't speak with any passion or personality, you have to just read off of a sheet of paper that has been given to you. You're basically an empty shell of a human being with no soul...how the fuck do these people look at themselves in the mirror.

  • @rossmanngroup

    I think I would do a great job as an anti-repair lobbyist and I think it would be GREAT fun. I swear to God, sometimes I want to publish videos that say "here is how I would answer this question, and respond to the Senators with a genuine answer from the opposite side." I do this with friends every now and then and it is really fun, but then also it becomes sad, because you realize that people who have been doing this for 30 to 40 years are still so garbage at a junior high school level of debating and public speaking. I could argue against this bill while citing patriotic tropes in a genuine and authentic manner. I can come off as authentic, without reading from a script, while arguing against it. Sometimes it really is tempting for me to publish videos that say this is what I would say if I was an anti repair lobbyist. But, I do fear that at some point one of these dodo birds might actually see my video and use it to reproduce what I said effectively, so I don't do this in public. The last thing I want to do is show up to debate myself. :-) You can't effectively argue what you believe in if you can't flip a coin and argue the other side as well.

    Robie Trites Two senators also explicitly mentioned competition. I think that is something that will resonate in conservative states very well. Government not for intervention’s sake, but to insure a free market so that government can get out of the way as much as possible and let consumers go about their lives as they choose.

They need someone who supports competition otherwise they wouldn't have a job. Each of their specialities like bodywork, alignment, welding, ect... is their job. They put so much time and care into their customers, they don't have enough time to even know government is working on keeping people employed.

  • @jealexander

    @jealexander

    @@heidiaguirre5672 car batteries have nastier chemicals, but lithium batteries fail more energetically. Due to the different casing, a car battery is harder to inadvertently damage and cause to fail; the bigger risk is dropping it on your toe, while an untrained person can easily puncture a pouch type lithium battery (like those typically used in consumer electronics) causing a fire. Of course none of this is to say people shouldn't be able to repair stuff, just that there is legitimately more risk involved in handling lithium batteries. I use them all the time for RC aircraft (pouch types taped together and wrapped with heat shrink), and there's way more risk of puncturing one in a crash than while replacing an iPhone screen.

And after all of my evidence the nursing professors on the panel said “its not our policy to give points back” and thats all it took for me to lose after I gave 2 and a half hours of evidence and a month of work. A compelling case certainly can be made for not only anti-right to repair but anti-repair in general. They’re just clearly not motivated enough to actually argue. They’re being paid to sit, read off a paper, and be a human stalling tactic so that as much profit can be milked as possible before regulation inevitably takes place. By that point manufacturers will have moved on to their contingency plans or had their alternatives to right to repair pushed by legislators who are friendly to them. That doesn’t mean that pushing for this legislation is a lost cause. It just means that we always need to remember that we are the underdog and this is an uphill battle. Since it's just a cost for them, they hire the cheapest third party company possible to refurb your devices. In case you missed that, these companies do not directly hire technicians to fix your devices. They farm the work out to the lowest bidder. They could make money on repair if they wanted to, but they would rather set the out-of-warranty cost so high that people buy a new device instead.

    @@andyfreeman6865 That's right. Italy has been being one of Europe's most prominent corruption and tax-frauding hotspots. The stellar national debt stems from 50 years of punishing chicken-stealing crooks and praising - and voting for - fraudulent millionaires and entrepreneurs who milked billions from the State and the EU for nothing in return but more bribes, payola and badly-done public works (eg bridges).

    @@Gavichap Wow. When you put it that way it really is an eye opener. Hopefully one day it will change. Here in America you basically described the Democratic party here. They aren't the only corrupt ones but they are the largest source of corruption in our country. America may not be far behind if they take control.

    @@andyfreeman6865 Well, I doubt they're the most corrupt and mindless, given the fact that the baddest economic crises have broken loose when the Republican party was in power. Anyway, in Italy Reps' homologues are the keenest in letting bribers and bribees, fraudsters and tax-doggers roaming happy and free. Their former frontman, fraudster Mr. Berlusconi, was even 'sentenced' to the usual piss-poor time (8 months) in the clink - never served - for having defrauded the Italian IRS 370 million euros in a complex offshore tax scam to create slush funds. He's still in politics as if nothing had happened.

    I'm actually impressed with the questions the senators had. And laughed at the non answers the lobbyists gave

    The senators actually took this very seriously. Makes sense when you think about it, everyone has an Xbox with a broken fan, or a phone with a screen that needs replacing. No one likes being told they can't do something to their own property.

    @@Krytern agreed. I'm not sure if you've watched the other hearings across the country for similar bills, but other senators not only seem disconnected from the subject, but also seem to not care. I was happy to see our senators were different.

    John Mc Super glad our senators knew this isn’t some small thing. This stuff really matters.

    It's hilarious how they are side stepping all the questions coming at them on why they oppose the bill! Haha
