LOST IN TRANSMISSION - Installing 4L60E Using Stock Crossmember - Squarebody Chevy LS Swap - UTX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today at Ugly Truck, we're installing the 4L60E transmission in this 1984 Chevy C10 LS swap using the original crossmember. This crossmember fits any budget (free!) and the transmission sits at just the right angle. We also check our driveline angle and measure for our driveshaft. Unfortunately, we weren't able to reuse the driveshaft on this truck, but we will be able to upgrade to the longer slip yoke on the new custom driveshaft. Jerry also talks more about engine placement, torque converters, P0300 Random Multiple Misfires, and upcoming projects... So stay tuned!

    Love your stuff as usual. I have run into the same problem with the driveshaft in my own '68 C10. I have used a longer output yoke at times and especially with the trailing arm suspension like in my '68 without a problem, your driveshaft angle is locked in. 50 bucks for a yoke is better than a new 300 dollar shaft IMHO. There is a fudge factor involved and I use a App on my smartphone to check the angles, it's supplied by Tremec. Also, I must have lucked out on my trans installs with the 4L60/4L80. I have had to buy an adaptor harness to jump from the 60 to an 80 and a reflash is cheap insurance but thanks for the info on the 60's year change. I have done the conversion from 4wd to 2wd, cheap and easy but the year change on the electronics is a new one for me. I also run stock converters, I do street conversions and even used one behind a 5.3/turbo install and never had a problem besides, between the cops and the occasional Hellcat at the stop light it's not worth it for me, I'll stick with my low 12's in the quarter N/A and everyday driveability and mileage. Next year, Power Tour.

    Thanks Ken! On our 70 C10, we had a nice long aluminum driveshaft laying around that we were able to have cut down. Eliminated the carrier bearing and had to cut out the center support, but it really did make a difference vs the old 2-piece driveshaft. We've had a couple of people tell us to go check out Power Tour. Maybe we'll see you out there one of these days! Thanks for watching, Ken! --Emily

    I watch most of your videos and learn quite a lot and this one was one for sure. I would really like to recommend you swapping a C10 front suspension into a K5 or K10 if y’all ever come across one of those jobs.

    Thanks Geebop! Are you talking about a 2wd conversion on a K5? We parked next to a lowered 2wd 72 Blazer at a truck show last fall, and I've been driving Jerry nuts about it ever since! Would definitely be a fun project! --Emily

    Yes absolutely 4 to 2 because it’s just so bouncy on rough roads like we have here west of ft worth. We have an acme brick factory right down the road from us out in the middle of nowhere Bennett Texas and those 18 wheelers are horrible on our roads. I’ve had this in the back of my mind for years.

    We used to be able to find the GM 2wd shafts brand new, but now I'm not seeing them. Looks like Sonnax makes one (amzn.to/3StAXah) but it's pricey. We've ordered used shafts and tail housings on Ebay and have had good luck with them. The part number for the housing is 24241496. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching, Andrew!! --Emily

    I understand the angle idea but can you tell me your explanation for why some people say the angle at the transmission output should not exceed 4 degrees. Does that also mean that it doesn’t matter if the engine is “level?” Thanks!

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    3 ай бұрын

    Hello Joey. The angle of the engine and your transmission at the output shaft ideally would be within that 2 to 4 degrees, but not level. The universal joints at the driveshaft need some angle in them to keep them lubricated and they need that opposing angle from the differential to keep from vibrating. Jerry

    Hello Joey. Its me again. That 6 degrees that I had was with the truck up in the air on the hoist. I compared that measurement with the measurement that I had on the original truck with a 350 and thm 350 transmission sitting on the hoist lifting it at the same spots. If your reading 6 degrees I would bet you are real close. Keep us posted. Sounds like your getting close to the end. Jerry

    I always thought the input shafts were different on a 4x4 4l60e to a 2wd. Why do I see videos of people tearing them apart when all you have to do is swap the tail?
