    @@theeutecticpoint yeah they are ring-necked parakeets, there have been feral parakeets living in parts of London since as early as the 1830s but most are descendants of what are known as the "Kingston Parakeets" who established a sizable colony in Richmond Park in Kingston-Upon-Thames and then spread through South West London up into the rest of London throughout the 20th Century. There's a lot of urban legends about them being Jimi Hendrix's escaped pets or other such stories, but almost all of the stories come after the first known sightings of birds in the Royal Parks. It's a combo of escaped pets and birds stowed away on cargo ships, and for some reason the ring-necked parakeet is an invasive species that really thrives here.

    The parakeets in hyde park like to perch on people, especially if you have an apple. They're extremely adorable and I highly recommend it.

    In lots of european cities there are wild parrots. Its REALLY cool. If you life in some german cities for example, it can happen to you that you wake up because of a strange noise, you look out of the window, and you see a huge group of blue greenish parrots flying outside. It always instantly cheers me up.

    @@drai4077 Amsterdam and more big cities also have loads of them, mostly in and around the big parks. In the past people let them free and somehow they adapted and keep breeding like crazy. I like it tho ghehe.

    @El Dimos Karam yeah I just mean my part of the UK which is on the coast. Apparently living by salt water decreases likelihood of snow but we did used to get snow quite regularly. Now it hasn't snowed properly in 10 years :/

    I was in London years ago. The weather was terrible (as it should be). But it was amazing. I love the city so much. Watching Grey cruising over the places when it's snowy is awesome. And a huge amount of respect for grey for not killing the moment with non-stop talks. He speaks in the perfect moments and lets you enjoy and sink into the video perfectly.

    It's only been standing fully for about a year yet now it feels impossible to imagine getting a view of the square mile without 22 Bishopsgate. Also, the walkie talkie looks so much less ugly with a white coating.

    I'm guessing those parakeets have been hand fed before. They're feral Rose-Ringed Parakeets and are the most northernly breeding population of parrots.

    @@Wintersnow1212 i see them all the time. The story goes that they were on the way to / already at London zoo but they escaped, and somehow they’ve just adapted to the environment. It’s crazy, i know. Just a little quirk this place has i guess.

    The green birds are ring necked parakeets. They live wild all over London. Rumour has it that they escaped from the set of "The African Queen" when it was filmed in London back in the day. But whatever, they're now common in the London parks and green spaces.

    I believe that they were a fad pet for a while many years ago and when people got fed up of looking after them they set them free. They've bred like crazy and are all over the parks in central London.

    Central London is a great touristy area. Even as a local from the outskirts (South-west, near Heathrow), when I head into Central to look around it's great. Normally in December I'd have gone with my parents to look at the Christmas lights and the tree in Trafalgar Square that we get given every year from Norway. Best thing to do though is to go to some of the really touristy areas, but dive off down a side street somewhere. You never know what you'll find. Explore the less travelled areas, and you'll see a whole different side to London.

    Indeed: the closest we had to them where I live were in 2007 and 2020, when blizzards made it difficult to go anywhere. London honestly looks like a typical Canadian city at the start of winter.

    I was just about to board my flight at Heathrow in December 2010 when the skies opened up. I had 4 solid days of snow exploration before Heathrow reopened. The snow just stayed and stayed. Kew Gardens was the best! With nearly zero tourists around I got to talk to the researchers there... and got to ask why the London plane trees look so much like American sycamores... but monstrous gigantic ones. The London Plane tree is an artificial hybrid between an American sycamore and a related Chinese tree!
