It's the same for many people living in the UK. I'm English, I'm nearly 62 and live some 180 miles north of London. I reckon I've been there a maybe 10 times in my life many of those to see the famous sights. The best visits were staying with my brother when he lived in Kensington in the 80s as that was the time I got to see places 'off the beaten track'. It's not all pretty of course but there are substantial areas that have an almost rural and 'old-world' feel; the parks are fabulous and indeed much of the central districts are surprisingly green. 🇬🇧

That is exactly how I felt. That was the closest thing to an authentic London tour that I have ever experienced. Seeing the postcard version of London is neat in and of its own right, but going down the small winding paths, seeing the little things, it makes a huge difference in experience. That was the most that I have ever wanted to go to London, which is somewhere I have in general always wanted to go and experience.

I left London almost 5 years ago having lived there my entire life. Seeing it so intimately actually brought tears to my eyes. That spot on the lake at Green Park where I asked out an ex. The statue in Hyde park where I first got drunk with my friends. Bridges I have vivid memories of walking across with classmates. The Greenwich observatory I used to go to every Saturday for my Astronomy GCSE. The road I used to walk down to the tube station on my way back from a part-time job and the pizza place on it even if it was closed. I miss London a lot now lol.

First lockdown central was very deserted like in this video but hasn't been that way for a very long time. I'm moving soon and I'm looking forward to be able to walk to work from my new place because I'm tired I getting busy tubes twice a day (definitely no where near as busy as pre COVID tubes but still busy). This is really nice! While I don't miss the pandemic at all, I do miss the calmness of my city during spring 2020 and early summer that years. While we didn't have enforced lockdowns in my country, people took it serious and the streets were mostly empty. I remember riding on public transport with 2 persons on a 1300 capacity subway in the mornings, the quietness of the empty stations only broken by pre-recorded messages from the speakers about the dangers of human contact. It was quite surreal, like a post apocalyptic movie.

I'm probably missing something since I've never been there, but from the video it looks like you'd have to dead-lift the bike over the fence at the top if you rolled it up that ramp, and that is before mentioning the difficulty of working around the posts on the way up without dropping it. I have trouble considering that to be "designed" with that use in mind. Plus that doesn't look like a typical bicycle, and is possibly substantially heavier than the size implies. Holding it several centimetres off the ground for a longer time with the ability to rest periodically is likely far more feasible than a single high lift.

This brought me back to the early autumn in my city., when true lockdown first started in my country. Its nowhere near as big or as packed with different cultural expressions as London but its got a nice medieval center. I did a walk through the abandoned medieval streets, with the sun just barely poking through the buildings that almost seem to hang over the narrow streets. I would then walk to a park that ran alongside the old city wall, counting all the damaged parts and wondering which ones were caused by wars long gone. I did this walk almost every day for a month, every time wondering whether I would experience an abandoned city again. It really is ethereal solitude, like you said.

So eerie to see London like that, yet, so beautiful in her silence. Seeing this gives me small nostalgic pangs of missing the city. Had the opportunity to study abroad there for the last half of 2009, and as an American, I can say in all honesty it is my favorite city in the world. London is that place where you can live forever and never do nor see it all. The little nooks and crannies, like the path he never saw before, make it what it is. Also, the best transit system I've ever used. I wish we had that in America.

I'm always so excited to see on my recommended page that there's a new CGP Grey video. Thank you for all the hard work you put in, and then choosing to upload it to a platform where it's entirely free. The ‘Novelty’ section of this ride is between St Katharine Dock and Limehouse. It’s a beautiful bike ride and you can stop at some nice riverside pubs along the way (when they reopen). I used to live in Wapping, I miss it a lot since I moved back to Aus a few years ago. This brought back lots of lovely memories ❤️

What a stunning and majestic city, London is! Only been once and I loved it. I'm from Porto, Portugal, and I gotta say, in a way, I'll miss those days of lockdown when I was walking my dog for hours on end in the city centre and although it was quite eerie, it was also so peaceful and beautiful - no loud noises, no traffic, just fresh carbon-monoxide-free air... Thanks for the vid. Love, from Portugal
