London in the snow - Coldest March Day Ever!

London in the snow - Coldest March on record.
London is a city of change and contrast and resilience against foreign invaders.
Londoner’s are a welcoming people but this Spring one uninvited guest presumed to test their resolve.
Snow.
Piccadilly Circus, the stone village green of London, take your girl out to buy a handbag or an enormous limousine you start from here
Pussycat pussycat where have you been, I’ve been to London to see the queen.
Sentries present arms and visitors present cameras
But it’s too cold for her majesty to go out to day, the royal ensign indicates that the queen is at home.
Monuments and stone heroes, like Nelson, museums and galleries, and tall erections, buildings at the heart of a nation get the thumbs up from us.
Ships, towers, domes theatres and temples lie
Open onto the fields and to the sky
The Duke of Wellington unflustered by the snow on his private parts. That’s why they called him the iron duke.
The ancient river, ever changing running like a noble theme through London, past the houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Even Big Ben is wearing his overcoat as Churchill looks on, helpless this time against the beast from the east as this weather is being called, but Ghandi resolute as ever who so often ruffled the feathers of Parliament.
Now is the winter of our discontent, as Shakespeare’s globe is covered in snow and peanut sellers keep warm over their barrows, which is more than can be said for this girl.
On the majestic steps of st pauls, Londoners have an hour for lunch and can relieve themselves in one of the many public lavatories provided, as the snow Queen Anne, who united England and Scotland looks on beneath the proud domes sailing in the sky
But kids…if you see a yellow snowman, don’t play with it!
The river once wide and marshy is disciplined by the stone embankment.
The river Thames reflects the brooding centuries of history and the bright swirl of today,
The excitements and pleasures of a great capital.

Great video, again. I remember being in London in early 1986, what was called the "big freeze". A little snow and a few points below zero. People died, the trains couldnt drive. Brits are funny that way. Coming from Scandinavia it really is no big deal.

To be fair it only snows maybe once a year on average, lightly. People just don't know what to do with it. '86 was the Chernobyl effect I think, weather was poor all year, you probably had the same in Scandinavia then. I was an amateur racing cyclist and every race was cold and wet that summer it seemed.

Waahhh ! That was a great big glass of sherry. I follow you from sherry land in Jerez southern Spain. We usually have it in a small catavino which is a special cup for the occasion. No more than two or three otherwise it goes up your head and next morning you have a hangover... But I specially like you having the worldwide known wine produced in my homeland.

Interesting to note is that the Frost Fairs only occurred within a window of a couple of decades during a period known as the Maunder Minimum. This was a period where solar activity tanked and northern Europe copped some severe winters as a result!

Lovely style as always. I liked the old news reel style (how do you do that?) and the quote from 'Composed Upon Westminster Bridge' one of my favourite poems. Thanks for braving the snowy elements and sharing. I've been tucking my camera into my jacket between clips. It's still Baltic out there!

Take it from a Canadian -- those"just freezing" temperatures are the worst. Sidewalks become very icy and people fall and break bones. We use a lot of salt after plowing the roads. Yes, best to stay home.

HEY!.....check it out...good ole Camden Town and NW3!....my childhood stomping ground. Thanks for making this video. I wonder if that phone booth is still their at Primrose Hill and Adelaide I think....stupid question right? This video brought back some awesome memories. Plus that footage of the park, I think that was Primrose Park or Regents....anyway thats where we all ended up at the slightest amount ice or snow, with anything that had a slippery bottom to carry you down that hill.......in lieu of a tobaggon, LOL!

Ha ha ! Two inches of snow, and London comes to a halt. Four inches, and the whole country comes to a standstill ! In Scandinavia one foot of snow is first ignored. Then showeled away. Four feet of snow is good exercise to get rid of. Four meters of snow, and we dig tunnels between the houses... 😆
